This week has been tough for so many of us. 💔 We’re navigating grief, anger, and uncertainty, and it’s ok to feel every emotion that comes up - each one is valid.

As an immigrant and non-citizen, I didn’t have the ability to vote in this election. But even without a ballot, I’m not powerless. I have a voice, and I’ll continue to fight for what matters. In case it was not abundantly clear before:

💕 People have the right to bodily autonomy.
🖤 Black lives matter.
🏳️‍⚧️Trans lives matter.
🏳️‍🌈People have the right to love whoever the f*ck they want.
🌎Climate change is real and urgent.

These aren’t a difference of opinion. They aren’t just beliefs, they are the core of what I stand for.

When I started Hudson Houndstooth over 5 years ago, it wasn’t just about making cute accessories for your fur babies. It was about creating change. It was about fighting fast fashion, advocating for the planet, and standing up for animals and human rights alike.

I remain committed to that mission and to this community- our community. I will continue to push for a better world, one rooted in compassion, inclusivity and sustainability. Thank you for being part of this journey with me.

I was asked by a customer this weekend what was our rope toy made out of that made it so indestructible? 💪🏻

She had bought one for her certified super chewer in August at another local market and she said it still looked almost new.

The answer has nothing to do with what it’s made out of. In fact, the Organic Recycled Cotton is softer on their teeth and gums than synthetic rope is! 🐾

The REAL reason our rope toys are so durable is because of their knotted construction. Most rope toys are either twisted or braided and often have a fill in them. Our toys are a series of individual knots that make up the entire rope that give it its superior strength.

So if you’d like a rope toy that will hold up to even the toughest game of tug-of-war and will actually last you months instead of days or weeks, look no further. 💙

Ollie is a little stage 5 clinger that refuses to be anywhere other than between my legs or in my lap…so we made it happen between my legs. Can’t say this was the first time or will likely be the last 😂

The instructions of this pattern were designed so even if you are a beginner sewist, you can walk away with a durable dog toy in a couple of hours! 🦈

This adorable shark toy was created by one of my pattern testers .katrien and she killed it! She upcycled a pair of old denim jeans repurposing the hem of the jeans for the mouth and customizing it with little embroidered eyes 🥹💙

Her pup Pixar loved it so much, he greeted her with it in his mouth in the morning. How freaking cute is that?! 😭😭😭

The pattern is available in multiple formats:

There’s a lot of new faces here, so I thought it was time for a reintroduction! 🐾

Hi! If you don’t know me, I’m Nicole (and of course my trusty little side kick Ollie) - the founder of Hudson Houndstooth.

I have been sewing and pattern making for over 20 years! After studying Fashion Design at FIT, I worked in fast fashion for a decade designing mainly women’s sleepwear for various department stores.

Five years ago, after being fed up with the waste, greenwashing and exploitation in fast fashion, I founded Hudson Houndstooth - a sustainable dog brand focused on high quality, fashion forward and functional pet products. I handcraft everything from fabric salvaged from the fashion industry that would otherwise end up in a landfill. ♻️

Now I’m super excited to expand our offerings to include patterns for unique dog products and inclusive sized dog clothing, so you can create your own sustainable designs for your furry friends!

Some fun facts about me and Ollie:

My love for design started as a little girl, designing my skating costumes for competitions ⛸️

Before I adopted Ollie, I was a cat mom of two cats - I know I spend a lot of time talking about dogs, but feline friends are welcome here too!🐈🐈‍⬛

Ollie is very picky about toys. His favorite toy is a small plush baseball that he arrived with as my foster. He is so gentle with it that after more than 4 years, it is still intact 🥹

We’re turning 5 today!!! 🥳🐾

Time flies! It feels like yesterday that I walked into for the first time to find the fabric for our first ever collection.

Before I started Hudson Houndstooth, I spent a decade in the fashion industry where I witnessed first hand the waste, exploitation and greenwashing that plagued it. I had dreamed of being a designer since I was a little girl (I sewed my first pair of pants when I was 9), but the realities of the industry left me disheartened and questioning my place in it.

My love for animals and my desire to help those in need because my driving force in my journey to create Hudson Houndstooth.

We have had our ups and downs over the years. As a small company (literally me and Ollie of course 😂), committing to sustainability and ethical practices and ensuring the highest quality pieces while also trying to keep prices affordable has been difficult. However it is a challenge I believe worth taking on!

Whether you have been here since the beginning or you recently joined our community, your belief in our mission has made all the difference!

Over the years I have made our zero waste scrunchies in a variety of ways and in my opinion this is the easiest and fastest way to make them! 🤌🏻 I call them zero waste because I use the leftover scraps from our pet accessories to make them. Helps reduce textile waste and you can twin with your fur baby bestie!
