Nugget needed a friend, so this weekend Hermey joined our household! Hermey comes to us from a shelter up north where he was brought after being found as a stray.

As a lot of shelter cats do, Hermey came to us with a kitty cold and parasites. Unfortunately this means we’ve got to get through some medications and a week of quarantine before these two can be together freely. We all can’t wait for the quarantine to be over!

We’ve got a new foster friend! Please say hello to Nugget, an oh-so-sweet teenage kitten who has been a solo kitten since he was 8 weeks old.

Why is it worth mentioning that he was a solo kitten? Well, he displays the typical signs of single kitten syndrome - biting during play and pets, general lack of confidence, and lots of energy that he doesn’t know how to get out. My plan is to introduce him to another foster (coming soon!) in the near future to help him resolve these “issues” and have a new best friend!

He has settled in SO well, being extremely affectionate and sweet while gaining confidence in the new space day by day.

One of Sonic’s most unique traits is his very large “thumbs”. What could be better than an extra toe bean?!

Health update: Sonic is doing very well! He’s off his GI and anti-nausea meds and is now only being treated for a double ear infection. He’s eating great and continues to use the litter box, which is exactly what we want to see!

Sonic has had a rough week! Here’s a quick recap on where he’s been: Foster home ➡️ Respite foster home ➡️ Vet ➡️ Back to respite foster home ➡️ Vet to be hospitalized overnight ➡️ My house

Talk about exhausting! He’ll be staying with me for a week to receive medications and get close monitoring to ensure he keeps eating and drinking. Good news is, he’s doing great, takes his meds like a champ (though he does vocalize his complaints throughout the process), and is so thankful to be out of the hospital and back in a home. He can’t wait to be reunited with his brother Mario later this week!

Thankful for always taking senior kitty health issues so seriously and getting him to the vet immediately despite the high price tag!

It’s been a while since I last updated, but in that time the most *perfect* forever home came along for Ernest and Emily!

They are settling in so well, have an awesome front bay window, and their humans are being so patient as they gain trust with them. Look at the last picture of our “scared” Emily - she’s so comfy and showing her whole belly! From sewer drain to forever home, congratulations little ones ❤️

Ernest is a complete lover and his love language is definitely physical touch. He will remind you with a meow if it’s been too long since his last hug!

Emily is a sweet girl, growing in trust and confidence with her humans. She’s playful, enjoys pets when she’s comfortable, and is so attached to her brother, Ernest!

Happy adoption day Jane and Edgar! From living in a sewer to having a forever home together - have a happy life little ones 🥰

These two hit the jackpot - an awesome owner who couldn’t be more happy to spoil them rotten and is willing to give them all the time they need to come out of their shells. Jane is going to lose her mind when she finds out he’s got a whole screened in porch that she’s going to get to sit out with him on!

This is Jane’s happy place! If she had a choice, the window would be open and she’d be in it all day every day! They all love it, but she’s straight up obsessed. Luckily for her, the heat has calmed down and I’ve been able to open the window more!

Note: It’s very easy for cats to get through a window screen! Pet Haven experiences numerous lost fosters every year who escape through a screen. The open window is an only-when-supervised activity in my foster room!

It all started with Edgar on the blanket, and over the last 10 minutes the pile has slowly grown to four!

Having bonded cats is so special. The way these four care about, bathe, play with, and give comfort to each other is truly the sweetest and purest thing to watch 🥰

This might not look like a monumental moment to most, but the fact that these four are choosing to be in the open on a cat tree while I’m in the room is a huge step forward!

We’re making progress day by day. The hisses are happening a bit less often, they come out to play as long as I just sit and don’t move too much (movement = scary!), and they’re starting to sleep more comfortably out in the open (once again, as long as I don’t move too much). It doesn’t happen overnight, and each kitten has their own timeline, but I’m so glad to be seeing daily progress in every one of them 😊

We’ve got a new crew! Welcome to the Pet Haven family Edgar, Ernest, Emily & Jane!

These four siblings were found in Minneapolis in a storm drain under the road. Needless to say, they had a rough first 12 weeks of life and they’re a bit unsure of all humans. They’re trying to be tough and scare me off with their hisses, but their walls are already starting to break down and I’m thinking it won’t be too long until they decide that I’m not so bad!

We’ve got kittens! Spring welcomed five beautiful little ones this morning between 7:40 - 9:20 am. They’re all healthy, eating great, and Spring is taking the absolute best care of them 💕

Say hello to Mama Spring! Spring was dropped off at the Pet Haven office this week and is due to pop any day! After getting X-rays, it’s estimated that she’s having 5-6 kittens and they’re due sometime within the next week. She will be staying with me temporarily so she has a comfortable, safe place to give birth as we wait for her official foster placement. We’re on kitten watch!

Once again, tonight said yes. We said yes to three severely matted cats who were found abandoned on the side of the road.

The smell, filth, and neglect of these three was horrifying. The mats were so bad that it affected the cat’s ability to walk or lay down. After a few dedicated hours of hard work, they are now all shaved, comfortable, warm, and safe tonight.

So thankful to Pet Haven for saying yes and for the great people that I get to do this with ❤️

As a foster, there’s nothing better than getting amazing updates after adoption! Frost was originally pretty shy and nervous in new situations, but he’s absolutely thriving in his new home. So proud 🥰

I couldn’t be happier to share that this sweet boy is getting adopted tomorrow! He’s still learning new things daily (like the joy of watching tv) and gaining personality by the minute, but now he’ll get to continue his progress with his forever family ❤️

Apparently this is Frost’s chosen position for cuddling this evening!

After being away from home more than normal this weekend for the holiday, it’s clear how much Frost misses me and is starting to come out of his shell. He’s still working on his confidence in other parts of the house, but with me he’s fully trusting, loving, and can’t get enough cuddles!

Flea quarantine is over! Frost is officially flea-free and welcome to explore the house outside the cat room. He still chooses to spend most of the day in the comfort of his own room, but with some encouragement will come out to sit by me. It’s going to be some time before he’s fully comfortable, but it’s a great start!

Ever wonder if cats in rescue know that we’re helping them? I can tell you with complete certainty, Frost knows.

Frost just sat so calmly for me as I slowly and tediously trimmed away some of his uncomfortable matted hair. Does he usually sit still this long? No way. But after each mat got cut off, he leaned into my scratches harder and continued to sit still for me despite the sound of the scissors right near his face. I can only imagine how good it feels to have these mats gone and no longer pulling on him! There’s a few left, but we’ll get those another time.

Introducing Frost!

This beautiful boy was found as a stray and was so scared at the shelter. Within two short hours of getting out of the scary shelter and into his own quiet room, he quickly showed me that he really is just a friendly lap cat! We’ve still got some trust building to do (when I stand up I’m veryyy scary) but it won’t be long until he fully comes out of his shell.

Petunia and Hazel were the first up for their spay surgeries last week. That meant oh so cute recovery suits and lots of extra cuddles for me! Both of them are recovering well and are getting back to their normal selves.

Introducing Hazel! Terrified shelter kitten to cuddly bed kitten in only 30 hours. Look at that transformation. Rescue really does save lives ❤️

Hazel now has six siblings to love on her and we are working on slowly all becoming friends! She’s so trusting of me and has so much love to give. Her instincts still tell her to hiss and hide, but with time those feelings will subside. Welcome to the family Hazel 🥰
