Not a reptile, but this is my own personal pet, his name is Piglet.
Piglet is needing a new home. A home that can cater to his every need. He loves his veggies, especially his fav treats, oranges, and bananas. he doesnt care to be handled. But if you get him out, he’ll wander around your bed, or sit in your lap. He’s perfectly ok being a lone pig. He doesn’t care for other pigs. He tries to fight them. He loves the cats though. A home with an adult preferably, Hes skiddish, and needs patience. He’ll wheek and squeek for food or water if its out. He’s actually a fattie lol. But i love the boy. So thats why im going to keep my mind open to a new home, if its the right one. I have no idea about his age. Ive had him for almost 2 years.

Say hello to our 3 newest friends; Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael - Red Ear Sliders surrendered to us this past week!

These guys are at least 10 years old, having passed through two owners. They can live up to 50 years in captivity, which is why many turtles end up released into the wild or surrendered to rescues.

We took part in St. Louis County Parks Cliff Cave Capers event this past week and afterwards, while walking back from the cave, we noticed this Prairie King Snake tangled in the landscape netting. We quickly cut him free with a knife loaned from someone in the group (THANK YOU!) and carefully clipped the netting from the snake.
He didn’t have any concerning cuts so we let him go back into the park!

In the video I mistakenly identify the snake as a Great Plains Rat snake, not paying attention to the shape of the head.

Sorry for the terribly blurry photo but it’s hard to get a photo of something so tiny with a phone!

This is a tooth of the Northern Water Snake that bit me yesterday. He left a couple teeth behind.

They’re so small, which is why they don’t hurt too bad.

I have been reading a lot of talk from residents of Shrewsbury about possible copperheads at Wehner Park. It looked like they had figured out it was a water snake, but I set out to be sure and to bring some relief to parents before the snake got killed out of fear.

I searched the creek and was able to locate a Northern Water Snake (Scientific name; Nerodia sipedon sipedon). These are one of the most common water snakes in Missouri and often confused for cottonmouths or copperheads. These snakes patters are much different. Northern Water Snakes are harmless, nonvenomous snakes and they feed on fish and amphibians mostly but will also eat rodents, birds, and eggs as well as small lizards. These guys will ALWAYS run when they know you’ve spotted them. Their first initial reaction is to freeze and rely on their camouflage but when that doesn’t work they will belly flop to nearby water sources if possible.

They are not a worry for your children or pets playing in the creek (Id be more concerned about the water quality).

I’m including pictures of other water snakes I’ve found in Missouri as well as a copperhead to help you tell the difference.

Please do not kill snakes. It’s actually illegal in Missouri unless they’re a direct threat to you. If you have a snake on your property, give me a call or message and I will remove for free.

Hey there folks!

Not only do we want to assist with captive pet reptiles, we’re also here for the native wild snakes as well! Call us to remove any unwanted snakes from your property.
We will remove venomous snakes for free and nonvenomous snakes for a small donation of your choice (not tax deductible) to the St. Louis Reptile Rescue.

However, no relocation will be turned down due to inability to donate. Overall, the snakes well-being is the priority.

23/05/2020

Today we were called to Oakville to retrieve a Western Rat snake from a residential subdivision.

If you’ve got a snake on your property that you don’t want there, give me a call. I’ll remove venomous snakes for free and Nonvenomous for a small (non tax deductible) donation to the St. Louis Reptile Rescue. However, service won’t be refused for lack of ability to donate.

Introducing; Jericho AKA “Utah”

St. Louis Reptile Rescue got a call from someone in Utah that had gotten in too deep with a green iguana. Due to COVID19 restrictions and their remote location, they had no way to much needed veterinary care and everyone around them had left them high and dry.

We made the trek across the country to retrieve the little man and he’s currently in quarantine while he gets the veterinary care he needs to ensure a top notch quality of life.

He will be available for adoption soon and inquiries should be aware of the care that goes into owning a green iguana. Understand that it is possible a green iguana may not be able to tame.

Did you know that some of Missouri’s non-venomous snakes like the Rat Snake or even the Speckled King Snake, both pictured below, kill and eat venomous snakes like the copperhead and are naturally immune to venom from some snakes?

All of these pictures are of different instances with different snakes in different areas of Missouri.

St. Louis Reptile Rescue is currently not registered as a 501c3 Nonprofit organization and therefore contributions made to our organization in construction cannot be deducted on your taxes.

We are currently in the works of setting up a fully functional reptile rescue in the heart of St. Louis Missouri!

Aiming to be a leading resource for information and care- STLRR will serve reptile enthusiasts across the Greater St. Louis area with educational information, access to affordable or free resources such as husbandry items and food, and when necessary; rehabilitation and rehoming.

We are currently under construction and while we are not recognized or licensed to operate as a rescue- we can still help those in need.

Already, folks have donated countless enclosures, heat and light fixtures, decorations, water dishes, and more to help us achieve our mission and start helping immediately.

If you want to help or are in need of any sort of assistance, please reach out!

Since many reptiles aren’t treated like cats and dogs, many many not know that their friends or family members have reptiles so be sure to share to reach anybody who may be in need!
