Edith, the 18yr old GSD

Edith was up, pacing, much the of the night. We went to the vet as early as possible for examination. The prognosis was very grim and Edith was quite uncomfortable. Surgery was the only possibility and that really wasn’t an option, due to her overall health.

With an extremely heavy heart, the decision to send this lovely old girl to the rainbow bridge, was made.

Thanks to all for sending your kind wishes and love to sweet Edith in her final days. She has truly touched the hearts of many and will be sorely missed.

Fran has been feeding Edith special meals, but she had to leave town for a few days, so I’m feeding Edith. She literally sniffed the can turkey & veggie stew dog food and turned her head away, this morning. I left the food next to Edith’s bed, came back in awhile, and she’s eaten all but the veggies! She’s a picky GSD, through and through!!!

I was out of town when Edith appeared at Dallas Animal Shelter, 2 weeks ago. Initially, Good Shepherd Rescue was going to be able to get her from DAS when her stray hold period expired, which would have timed perfectly with my return. Then DAS suddenly decided to release her for medical reasons. We got her medical records and they were so bad, it appeared her death was imminent. I wasn’t going to be back for another 4 days, so we sadly released her tag, thinking EU might be a blessing.

However, Craig & Kristen stepped up and said they would go get her immediately! So they deserve credit for saving Edith!

Once I returned home, I was able to pick Edith up from C&K. That day, I honestly thought EU would be a blessing for her, as she was so very frail. We decided to give her a few days of “wonderful” before sending her to the rainbow bridge.

Unbelievably, Edith responded, remarkably, and rebounded. I’ve never been so amazed by anything!!! I swear she still continues to improve every day!

Edith is an 18 year old German Shepherd that was saved, October 14th, from the Dallas, TX animal shelter, by Good Shepherd Rescue of Texas. She was covered in seed ticks, severely anemic, HW+ and completely emaciated. The poor old girl was unable to even walk on her own accord, she was so weak. The thought was that Edith shouldn’t have to be in a shelter and might have a few days of “wonderful” before she passed. Well the old girl amazed us all! After receiving medical treatment, good food, a soft bed and love, Edith began to rebound, literally within days! This page will hopefully be an inspiration to all who visit!!!
