Hey all. I've had a request from several clients that are outside of my usual service area for a place to haul in where I can work on their horses that is within my service area. Clients and I are willing to pay a fee for use of facilities. Let me know if anyone has any leads. Preferred area would be Clark County.

Social media is so tough for professionals in the horse world these days. There are tons of posts, pages, and commentors absolutely tearing down the work of professionals that have been in the business longer than some of these people have been alive. People that have not picked up a foot and worked on it, let alone the thousands of feet professionals have seen. I rarely ever engage with these posts as it's alot of misinformation being passed around and there's no point in engaging with people that only see hoof care in black and white.

I want to point out that hoof care is indeed, not black and white. It is incredibly complex. You will never, ever, ever, EVER see me tearing down the work of another professional. Period. I do not know what the hoof care professional is dealing with, whether that be a new or seasoned farrier, or barefoot trimmer, or some mix of the two. There are far too many factors at play when it comes to why a foot isn't perfect (and they rarely are perfect) and that includes horse behavior, level of training, diet, environment, genetics, hoof quality itself, owner involvement and willingness to follow professional's advice, schedule, conformation, etc etc etc. The list goes on.

I am 100 percent ok with owner questions and am always happy to answer them, even if I'm incredibly busy. I do not get offended with an owner wanting a second opinion, from another farrier, vet, chiro, bodyworker, etc. Please have that conversation with me! More often than not, if the owner wants to reach out to another farrier for that second opinion, I know that farrier on a personal level and we've probably already discussed other horses together. The farrier community is just that— a community.

We all got into this profession for the horse, it's where our hearts are at, so it's incredibly disheartening to see people tearing down the work of professionals. Professionals they've never met or thought to ask questions to. Work on horses they've never seen in person. I used to be really active on here at one point posting anything I was excited to have learned about that I wanted to share, sharing pictures of work I was extremely proud of, but the more I'm on social media, the less I care to share. I am sure people have seen my posts or work, and disagreed with some aspect of it, which is fine. But only I knew what I was dealing with in that instance. Also, we are all human, and yes, as strong and resilient as farriers can be, mistakes also happen.

Rant over. Happy Saturday, here's a picture of my adorable mare.

What do farriers do on their days off? Shoe our own personal horses of course. I finally got my young mare her first set of shoes last month. She's always had brittle feet that would wear faster than they grew, leaving me nothing to trim. This would leave her lame more often than not except on ultra soft footing. As I started riding her more, her soundness became more important so we tried getting shoes on her and she did so well! I pulled her shoes off today to assess if she was needing a trim, and at 4.5 weeks, I was pretty pleased to see some strong healthy growth in her feet! So we got shoes back on to keep her feet headed in the right direction. Happy horse mom. ♡

Happy summer, hope everyone's doing well during this heat wave! I had a great holiday weekend and am back to work today! I have one big request as I'm working on your horses this season, and that's to please please please fly spray your horses shortly before my arrival, and as often as you can during summer for that matter. Feet can become destroyed from fly stomping, and a horse that's comfortable during a shoeing also helps me do a better job as well! I do not carry fly spray on my truck for client horses due to the risk of allergies, so I ask that clients provide their own. 🙏🏼
Thank you all! ☀️😊

Lessons from today: Trust your horse. Believe in the people that believe in you. I have found friends in places I never thought I'd find friends. I initially thought business is business. But I've surrounded myself with women that have no limitations in friendship, patience, kindness, and horsemanship. And for that I'm forever thankful, for these are memories that will live with me forever.

Some beautifully fit bell boots. As we're getting into the thick of the farriers busiest season, I always recommend bell boots as a type of insurance for your horse's shoes! I've heard from friends and people that use other farriers that their horse lost a shoe and their farrier can't make it out when they're trying to go out and ride or have a competition coming up soon. Ideal coverage covers the full back of the foot and good coverage on the sides as well. Even the best shoeing jobs, some horses manage to find a way to get their shoes off.

A couple observations lately. Fast spring growth last year started around April. This year, horses are just now starting to grow fast again, and I think it has everything to do with the cool, wet spring we've had. Toes are starting to shoot out quickly and get long. I'm also seeing alot of feet that were wet last week dry up and get brittle quickly and are chipping, cracking, and breaking. I recommend anywhere from a 4 to 6 week schedule this time of year to combat length and breakage and to get moisture to the feet if possible. Lastly, even though it's getting warm and dry again, still be ultra aware of grasses! I have about 5 or so laminitic and foundered horses I'm currently working on with a new case just today! When in doubt, don't put them out!

Here's a foot from this morning that was 5 weeks since last trim.

💯 there's alot to take into consideration when making decisions on trimming and shoeing.

It’s not just…

It’s not just the toe.

It’s not just the heel.

It’s not just the sole plane.

It’s not just HPA.

It’s not just the environment.

It’s not just the diet.

It’s not just the radiograph.

It’s not just the posture.

It’s not just static assessment.

It’s not just dynamic assessment.

It’s not just the conformation.

It’s not just the hoof.

It IS a hoof attached to a horse. That horse IS a living sentient being.

The hoof is a result of ALL the pieces working together. When making hoof care decisions we must take into consideration as many factors as possible. The whole horse, especially.

What kind of content would you guys like to see? I have been in a bit of a lull lately with not a lot of new going on lately. I've been in a fairly consistent routine, which is always great, but doesn't make for particularly interesting content lol.

I've had a few reach out and ask if I'm accepting clients, and the short answer is yes, I have had a few spots on the schedule open up.

The longer answer is, I'm fully booked at least 2-3 weeks, and I will have space for anyone new when the calendar opens up again.

Picture for attention 🤠

All of my referrals for body work go to Amy with Heart Horse Body Work 👇🏼 I absolutely love love love her! Super knowledgeable, great with the horses, and she's made my own horses happy ❤️ give her a call, she books quickly!

Be kind to your farriers during this season! We're doing our best while dying at the same time 😆
But yes to all of this! I am currently booked solid myself 3 weeks. My books are open to new clients as it's a constant revolving door of clients and horses that come and go, but if you call saying horses are due now, I can't promise I can make it there right away.
Highest priority always goes to existing and long standing clients.
Last second cancelations and reschedules— this isn't the time of year to do it! I always try to be as accommodating as I can within reason, but sometimes my own life needs to be prioritized!
Looking forward to summer adventures with you all ☀️
