It is just now starting to get hotter and it will get hotter this summer. Do NOT leave your pups in the car. If going out during the day, please take water for them and watch for the hot asphalt. Puppy shoes are great options to help protect their paws.

I adore this sweet girl! She did soo amazing for her nail trim.

I had spoken to mom about starting a small training protocol before our appointment, so she could get used to having her nails trimmed and y’all.. I wish I would’ve recorded her allowing me to do her nails, she was so comfortable and unbothered by it! Which is exactly what we want when it comes to grooming. Anything that we can do to reduce stress or simply teach them to enjoy their spaw sesh, will lead to a happier, stress free experience for them!

So grateful mum followed the recommendations! Now Sage will just sit and hand over her paw for nail trims! Yeyy 🙌🏼 team work!

I can’t emphasize enough how important training is in general important for the development of the pups, but grooming training is a game changer for their experience every time they need to get groomed.

The cutest senior pup… his aunty was telling me he was fully grown when rescued, not sure his age, but he wasnt a puppy. His hooman brothers were in kinder then and they’re sophomores in high school now!
He’s still wagging his tail, asking for attention and active as a pup.

A long post with my heart on my sleeve. ♥️
As sit here and wonder how this message may be received, I honestly just hope that it reaches and opens your hearts in regards to the responsibility that comes with caring for pups.
And please do not think this is an “attack” by any means… I’m just hoping to shed some light from the pup’s perspective.. yes, their perspective because they do have feelings and they do understand much more than you think.

In the past few weeks I’ve received a huge amount of requests to take in dogs “temporarily” while the previous owners find new homes. I’ve also been asked to find homes for pups who’s owners “can no longer” take care of them. I’ve also received requests for long term care for pups who’s owners are unable to travel or move with their dogs, either because of rental regulations, transportation, time, new family members, etc.
It breaks my heart every time I see or hear that dogs are getting displaced from their homes because of XYZ reason. Again, this is not a shame post, I understand that life and situations happen. I just want you to consider when adopting or buying a pup, that they are a life time commitment, their lifetime, which is short compared to ours.

I’ve been working with a pup that developed severe separation anxiety because of constantly being moved from place to place. This kiddo developed a fear or being left alone or being left behind in any one place because of the instability of his surroundings. He started chewing up walls, furniture, towels, blankets, etc, breaking through kennels to the point of causing self harm because he didn’t want to be left behind. I’ve worked so hard to help him overcome these fears. He is a lot happier and more calm but it’s definitely been a task and it’s still work in progress. (So believe when I say it’s a commitment, I understand what that means and the amount of energy that entitles).

As most of you know me and the way I work and my belief system; animals speak to us and let us know quickly what works, what doesn’t, what they like and what they don’t. If we just listen.
They trust us blindly to care for them, to provide for them and they love us unconditionally regardless.

When we are unable to provide the basic requirements for a safe development, they in turn can develop behavior issues or even health issues caused by stress, which then turns pup-parents to say “my pup is misbehaved”, “he or she is a terror”, “they’re monsters”, “they can not be tamed. “Ugh, their such a hazzle”. Yet, we as pup parents have failed to listen to our dog’s needs. Which is easily expressed through behavior.

One not need be a behavioral specialist. You as a pup parent know your pup better than anyone and sometimes when we lack the tools or information, one can easily overlook certain things. However, there are resources. I am more than happy to provide you with the support necessary or refer out to resources with much more knowledge in the field, but before you consider rehoming, adopting out, reselling, or abandoning your pup, please consider how their behavior may come from a lack of stability in their foundation for safety.
They have feelings, they are sentient beings, they need a sense of safety like you do, they also need shelter, food, mental and physical stimulation, like you do.
Please consider how they feel and what they need and if their basic needs have been met before your throw the towel and give up on them.

When we bring new family members, like dogs into our lives, we must teach them how we want them to act, what expectations do we have of them considering how much work we’re willing to put into their education/training. Although they’re very smart creatures, they, like children, need to be taught how to move and behave in our world.

All this is to say that although life circumstances change, there is always a way to make it work. I promise. Most cases of behavior, time restrictions for care, can be addressed.

If you have questions, if your pup has been behaving differently, if you’re starting to lose your cool.. please please please, do not hesitate to reach out or ask yourself if their basic needs have been met before you consider rehoming a family member. To them, you are their family, their world. Their entire life’s purpose.
