Enrichment is such a huge topic so let's just discuss some enrichment toys for today. There are so many toys that you can buy or make yourself to tap into your dog's natural instincts. Prepare for a happier and slightly tired dog after they get to do some of their favorite things like scratch, scavenge, dig, etc. What's your favorite enrichment toy for your dog??

Let your dog lead the way. This weekend go on a walk in the woods and let your dog lead the way. They should set the pace and choose the direction (as long as it's safe). Let them sniff as much as they want. Let them find and roll in the gross stuff!

Parker here is living his best life visiting his grandparents this month! Not only does he have his first dog friend but also a yard to run in. Parker is dog reactive but with slow interactions he is now able to play with his grandparent’s dog outside. Yesterday was the first successful indoor interaction too! Keep up the great work Parker!

Look at this gorgeous girl! Ruthie killed it today on her first training walk to work on reducing her dog reactivity. We saw three dogs and she kept her cool for all three! She deserves a nice rest now on her ottoman.

If anyone needs an extra smile today here is Lucca! A very sweet 6 month old golden mountain doodle (yes you read that right). Living in a city means there are lots of good trash items to grab so we are going to be working on her “leave it” behavior and her attention to mom and dad.

Meet my two new clients! This was the puppy’s first day home so understandably he was a little nervous here but so far his sister has done an amazing job at playing with the puppy and giving space when appropriate. They are bonding splendidly!

Finished Meesha’s muzzle! Meesha is trained to wear a muzzle so that if we are in a situation where she has to be around strangers in close proximity (workmen in the house or vet visits) everyone can feel extra safe. At the vet I have worked with Meesha to feel safe with me restraining her while the vet checks her out but having the muzzle definitely allows the vet to feel safer to get a closer look at her. Muzzles are nothing to be ashamed about. You are doing what’s best for your dog and the people around you while you continue your desensitization training.

That’s just one reason why dogs wear muzzles. Here are others:
1. Introduction to new dogs
2. Dogs that scavenge on walks
3. Safety around babies and kids

Oh dear. Second lesson and Ollie slept the entire time! Luckily mom and dad had lots to discuss with me so there was no wasted time once again.

Meet little boy Brooklyn!! Believe it or not but my smallest client this month and my largest client are engaging in similar behaviors!!! Even though they show similar leash reactivity towards dogs it seems like the function of that behavior is in fact different. One is likely escape maintained and the other is for attention! That is why we never use a one method fits all approach!
