**AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION **

Welcome Calcipher! This sweet boy is recovering from ammonia, fin rot, and is underweight. Time will tell what his colors will be, but given how he changes depending on the light, he may be some kind of copper. He'll be available for adoption in a couple of weeks if you want to claim him!

** AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION**

Meet Rudolf! This guy was surrendered by an owner to a pet store at the same time as Krampus, and is healing from either fin rot or nipping from either an inappropriate heater or tank mates. He will be available for adoption after he starts to heal, probably 2 weeks.

24/12/2024

Get ready with me while I set up a fresh tank for intake #109, Rudolf!

** ADOPTION PENDING **

Meet Krampus! This sweet guy was surrendered after being returned to a pet store, and was not improving from fin rot in a breeder box at the store, but he's doing so well just 3 days in! Hasn't needed medications either. We'll keep him under observation for another week or two, but message me if you're interested in adopting Krampus!

Meet snowflake! We got a call about this tiny skinny baby who was returned to a pet store for not being "active" (why does this remind ne of Darla from Finding Nemo?). He has obvious ammonia burns and an obvious swim bladder infection. Starting him on antibiotics asap and crossing fingers and toes he eats soon. You're safe now buddy!

Meet Azula! This beautiful healthy girl was surrendered by a responsible betta owner that recognized the unlikelihood of a successful sorority, and I have already found her a new forever home with a past adopter 💙

Update: Sassy has been re-named Stacie and is a permanent resident of the rescue as her belly wound, difficulty pooping, and determined age make us want to keep a close eye on her.

Miss Sassy is doing well! She still looks very bloated which is not uncommon for older crowntail females. Her wound on her belly is healing and getting smaller, and she's back to being active, curious, friendly, and eating well.

Uodate: Angel (who we renamed Petal once it was clear she needed to be a permanent resident of the rescue) has swam under the rainbow bridge. she never could fully recover from her past injuries, and she developed dropsy very rapidly and we made the decision to humanely euthanize. But she spent about 6 weeks in a warm clean tank with lots of love and healthy food. Swim in peace Petal. 💜

Haven't posted in a little while! Miss Angel is doing okay. She's a special case and won't be appropriate for adoption unless someone feels passionate about taking on a disabled betta with an unknown remaining length of life, my guess is She's about 1.5 years old (if that's you...message me!). She is as recovered as she can be, slowly growing back her fins and mouth, still mostly blind. She swims freely now, no more swim bladder infection, she's eating now, but she still mostly rests at the surface and isn't very lively. I suspect brain damage either from being attacked in a sorority (an oxymoron) or from being in a small tank with too much ammonia.

Did you know 100% of my owner surrendered females have come from failed sororities? Wish I could say that stat is surprising but it's actually extremely expected.

Meet Sassy! She was surrendered today (first time getting a fish in a bucket haha, the cats were quite curious!). She is very bloated and has something strange going on with her belly (could be egg bound or very bloated, hopefully not a bloackage or infection or pending prolapse), so fingers crossed she starts feeling better soon.

💡 She was in a community tank with other females. One of the many reasons bettas aren't ideal for a community tank (besides the fact that they are solitary, territorial, aggressive, and not community fish), is as obligate carnivores, they have very different dietary needs than other freshwater schooling fish. So it's easy for them to get very bloated like this, plus more severe food related issues, in a community tank.

Got an owner surrender yesterday, a poor girl that has been sick for a long time. She is blind in 1 eye, has fin rot, mouth rot, a swim bladder infection, and had lost her slime coat from high ammonia. She's not out of the woods yet, still floating and lethargic and no appetite, but she already looks better after just 12 hours and 1 dose of Kanaplex. Cross your fingers for this one! 🤞

Bye Jelly! Enjoy your new forever home thanks to Justin! Jelly will be an emotional support fish for the kids and families Justin supports as a social worker 💙. I was also able to donate many supplies thanks in part to donations to the rescue (tank, heater, hides, thermometer, sponge filter, and some plants from my personal tanks)!
