Some months ago, dear Bobtail Ragtag won the cat food fundraiser prize of a portrait by kind supporter Sue Taghioff. Here it is! I'm delighted to report that she loved it so much she commissioned other work from Sue. Little old streetcat MAVROULI had all her many rotten teeth removed yesterday, after this photo was taken. She must have been in considerable pain, making eating difficult, and in this heat her constantly dribbling mouth attracted horrid flies. You could smell her a good way off! She's in my cat room now, with all her needs supplied, and will be closely monitored for some days. Already I can see some improvement, a little more liveliness, and the injections of pain-relief meds and antibiotics will help even more. A happy photo of the latest adoptee, little ginger MERRY (on the right), in his new home with a pal he adores. He was brought in to care from a very dangerous road, where he appeared suddenly and all alone. Lack of online time means we seldom manage to post about ongoing work, but it NEVER stops: neutering, vet visits for serious cases, daily feeding rounds and much more. Donations have dropped and dropped for many months now, yet costs of food and vets increases constantly. PLEASE don't forget us! Many grateful thanks to Dorle for buying the last 20 numbers so we can do the draw later today to find the lucky winner of Sue’s beautiful work. And a massive thank you too, to everyone who has participated and shared. The draw will take place at 21:00 EST, 19:00 BST this evening 13th June by Jade Hessay using an online random number generator.

This is a fabulous opportunity for Rowenna to top up her kitty bank for the summer months, but also another chance for one of us to be a lucky w1nner.

Thank you to all who've shared posts, liked, commented etc to raise exposure. Please don't stop! In the last week, daily feeding of colonies has continued along with medicating sick cats, trapping again for neutering (tomorrow), rescuing a kitten, starting work with a new colony whose owner has died, stocktaking of supplies, food supplying and ordering, and admin. All this can happen ONLY with your support, which is needed more than ever as requests for help increase and costs rise. We are grateful for EVERY gift, no matter how small. Your generosity improves the lives of many, many community cats who would otherwise struggle and suffer. Our heartfelt thanks for that. With winter barely started and months ahead of challenging weather for the cats, we hope very much that FRIDAY'S bonus ball will be a success and raise enough to cover food costs and possibly more (vet bills can mount quickly). We hope to see you all there! Here's one of the lucky cats who'll be neutered tomorrow and put his fighting days behind him, to live a safer and longer life.

Hello fellow cat lovers and Care for Cretan Cats supporters !

It’s been very quiet on this page for a long time, so now’s the time to rally and offer some much needed support to Rowenna who is overwhelmed with her day to day work caring for the cats of her community and doesn’t have time to spend fundraising - but funds are what she urgently needs now to pay for food, healthcare, neutering and parasite treatments. Winter always brings greater challenges - cats need more food; new cats turn up from closed holiday accommodation and of course viruses and other seasonal illnesses proliferate in cat colonies meaning there are extra necessary visits to the vet.

As always Christmas approaching focuses our minds on those less fortunate and towards those who dedicate their lives to helping and supporting others through their dedication and selflessness. This group provides us with an opportunity to come together on Facebook and to add to Rowenna’s cat-supplies fund.

As you all know, Rowenna struggles daily, not only with her time and energy to neuter, care for and feed her large, (and constantly increasing), flock but also to cover costs of food, medicines, vet care and neutering. I hope we can come together to give her a little encouragement with an injection of cash to replenish her dwindling cat-fund.

As it’s been quiet in here for a long time please share, share and SHARE again. Let’s bring this page back to everyone’s attention. In coming days a new bonus ball fundraiser will start but before that I will give you more information about the logistics.

ROWENNA NEEDS HELP - HER COMMUNITY CATS NEED HELP !


It’s very hard for anyone to be such a dedicated cat shepherd and at the same time keep everyone updated with Facebook posts AND do fundraisers. So let’s put our heads together and think of some things that we personally can do to assist. I’m part of a busy group elsewhere on the island but I can do the occasional bonus ball for her. Look out 👀 in coming days and I will post about a Xmas BB to help with this immediate crisis. There are other fundraisers that can also be done from a distance so is there something you can do? If you’re not sure, look at other groups for ideas.
Raffles for example can take many forms:
For 1 or more nice gifts that you get people to donate.
For an Amazon or other shop voucher (this like the bonus ball is taken from the profits of the raffle), etc etc…
I’m sure people out there are far more imaginative than me so put your thinking caps on and please step forward to help Rowenna continue her work. Without all of you she just could not go on. Thank you for supporting this amazing lady! 💜

Sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the incredible amount we raised for Rowenna’s Care For Cretan Cats! The fund is closing Sunday, (16/1/22), and we have hit the most amazing figure of just under 2250 euros (when converted at today’s rate!). What an awesome collection of generous people. Rowenna has already been in contact and is so very humbled by you all!

Update on Rowenna from Ros Masters.l 2/1/2022

I have spoken with her today, she's still feeling very, very tired & having headaches, which she was told to expect for at least 2 weeks after her operation. She is much happier in herself to be back at home with Anthonis. She thanks everyone for their best wishes & support, however she asks that people please continue to refrain from sending her messages & emails etc at the moment as she is not feeling ready to cope with them. Once she is feeling better in herself she will post on Care for Cretan Cats.

Absolutely INCREDIBLE - the fund has now reached a target I couldn’t have imagined when I set it up! The target figure of £1250 has been hit! 👊🏻 You are all so generous and supportive!! 👏🏻🥰🙏🏻

We have got an AWESOME AMOUNT & when converted into euros is around 1475 (depending on exchange rate at the time) so I just thought “wouldn’t it be amazing to round that up to 1500 euros?” We are so near… If anyone has a spare £1 or couple of euros down the back of the sofa we could do it!!! 🥳

UPDATE 26/12/21
Hello everyone. You’ll all be thrilled to know that Rowenna is doing splendidly well after the operation to stop the bleed in her brain and will leave hospital tomorrow. She will return to Crete with her niece Georgia on Wednesday, to be reunited with her husband Antonis and her cats.

WEDNESDAY 22/12 UPDATE:
I’ve heard from Georgia that other than feeling tired, Rowenna is doing really well. Also Georgia has spoken to Elpida and all is fine with the cats.

What incredible supporters you all are! Someone kindly rounded up their donation so we hit the target I had placed. THANK YOU!! However, I had also had a couple more PayPal’s to me to pop into the fund so I took the chance to lift the target once again, as I have had messages that a couple more people want to donate! What an amazing figure and I know the news will make such a difference to Rowenna’s recovery once we are able to tell her. She knew and allowed me to set this up- at the time I had hopes we might, just might, raise £500! We have now SMASHED through double that figure. I will keep the fund open and continue to lift targets to enable the greatest amount possible to keep Rowenna’s fantastic work on track and to make her life far easier when she can finally get back to it. Trying to raise enough to keep going is so draining so this will buy her the best gift of all – time to focus on herself, her family and what the cats need. THANK YOU AGAIN

I’ve just heard that Rowenna has had surgery. The doctor said he was very happy, everything went well and that he hoped Rowenna will make a complete recovery and she will return to Crete on Monday.
Isn’t that just ABSOLUTELY the best news ever!!

Wow – thank you to those who have donated already! Please do scroll down this page to see the fund I have set up to help Rowenna. Please don’t send money to her own Paypal because it might be some time before she can administer her own account and we might need to send funds direct to vets or other helpers on the ground for food etc.

The Just Giving does offer a PayPal option but if anyone has any difficult in making that payment then another option is to send it to my paypal

Please let me know you have done this by commenting below and put a message for Rowenna so I can then put it straight into the fund for you with your name and message. I will check this frequently but don’t worry if it takes me half a day to transfer it as I am not at my computer more than a couple of times a day. As many of you now know, Rowenna is unwell and will need a lot of help and support in different ways. She is in good hands however, as you also know, her many, many cats at her feeding stations and home team are her greatest concern and so to enable her to stop worrying about how the food can be bought, vets paid etc - things that right now would be better that she doesn’t have to think about, I have set up this JustGiving to fundraise for her. These cats depend on her and so this is to try and help out when it’s needed most. As we have all proved before; a large number of people giving a little adds up to a lot and will ease the burden on Rowenna. So any little amount, even a couple of euros as a Get Well thought or Christmas gift would be wonderful – Rowenna will be able to read all your messages on the JustGiving page too, once she is a little better ❤

I’m sorry to bring you all news that Rowenna is unwell and will not be available to post in Facebook, or to read or answer messages, for the foreseeable future. She is not able to go on the Internet. I completely understand that many of you will want to send your best wishes, Rowenna knows this too. However, PLEASE do not send messages to Rowenna of any type, even wishing her well, as she needs complete rest and this will only cause her more stress trying to answer everyone when she is recovered and able to go on the Internet again.
