🐍 Adder Bites!

🐍 Adders start to appear in warmer weather. Most commonly in woodlands, wetlands or gorse/hedge areas. They also like dry stone walls and long grass.

☀️When it’s really sunny, they like to bask out in the sunshine.

🐶When dogs are off the lead, there could be the possibility of coming across an adder.

🥎 When throwing balls for your dog, try to throw them in the direction you have come from, rather than the direction you are going. You are more likely to have scared off an adder as you have walked through its path.

🐶Always keep your dog on a lead in areas where you know there could be adders.

🐍 Adders are very shy snakes, so it’s unusual to see them. They only bite if they feel threatened, startled or are protecting their nest.

So, what are the signs to look out for?

* Yelping when bitten.
* Swelling in the bite area.
* Lameness, restlessness, bruising to the area.
* Nervousness and reluctance to be touched and stroked.

How do you know it’s an adder bite?

* Look for bite marks, 2-4 holes may be present.
* Symptoms occur very quickly.

What to do if your dog is bitten:

* Contact your Vet as soon as possible, not all Vets carry the anti-venom, so ALWAYS call ahead. This saves traveling if they don't have the anti-venom they will advise where to go.

* Carry your dog if possible - this will help to slow the spread of venom in the blood stream! If your dog is too big to carry, walk slowly.

Digs4DOGS has got a busy few months coming up with boarding dogs and currently getting lots of new enquiries for summer holidays. Unfortunately the whole summer is now booked. September & October are also fairly busy.

This is a niche service we offer taking your dog into our home and looking after it whilst you're away, so spaces get booked up well in advance. There is a legal limit to how many dogs we can board at one time and I need to ensure they are all friendly, well behaved & can be doubled up with other dogs including my own resident dogs.

A "meet & greet" is a legal requirement before I can accept any new boarders.

The sooner a "meet & greet" takes place and we are happy to offer your dog a space then the sooner you can book your holidays.

So, for future holidays, getting in touch sooner than later is very much recommended.

We are also excited to announce we will be offering a dog walking service as of 1st August (30 or 60 minute walks on or off lead to suit). Regular slots or odd walks all subject to availability. Enquire within.

This service will not be available 9th-17th September or 7th-11th October.

Digs4DOGS

Home from home kennel & smoke free boarding for your dogs at "Digs4DOGS". Your dog will be treated as one of our own pets. Walked twice daily minimum off lead if required. Only friendly well-behaved dogs considered. Peace of mind knowing that your dog is happy and settled while you are away.

A lovely surprise visit from my first ever charity pup in training from 7 years ago - Dudley. His first time to my house since he left at age 14 months, and first time to meet Freddy. Beautiful gorgeous Cudley Dudley, the big gentle giant (and you thought Freddy was big)!!
