Pea shoots are young seedlings that are harvested before they develop into larger plants and provide more concentrated nutrients than their full-grown counterparts. More than just a cute garnish, they're packed with vitamin C, iron, protein, and fiber.
Sprinkle them on any salad, soup, sandwich, or fish entree. Honestly, we eat them by the handful so there are no rules here. They taste like summer!

COMING SOON! There's something new on the horizon! Geoff recently built a self-watering microgreens rack, and we've been slowly trialing different crops. So far we're loving the radish, broccoli, pea, & sunflower micros. These small and mighty greens really pack a punch. Stay tuned for purchasing information to come!
Red + Blue = Purple! A big thank you to Jeff Fitzwater for including us in his Human Landscapes project! We had fun dressing up and playing with the lights for the sake of art and storytelling. Be sure to check out the full exhibit now on display at the Main Street Gallery until January 26th.

It may be a perpetual summer inside our farms, but even indoor container farmers need to take a seasonal break here and there. We'll be harvesting again soon enough. See you in November!
Don't forget your glasses! An important aspect of indoor farming is checking your lights to be sure they're doing their job correctly. Lettuce likes a ratio of red and blue light, and preferably around 18 hours of it. Our plants are fed nutrients and light during our evening/night, so while we're fast asleep the farm is busy working away.
We're having fun learning the wild ways of vertical arugula! This variety has a very fitting name (runaway). It grows so fast that it makes walking the aisle between walls a bit tricky. Our Farmer's Blend has been packed with this peppery addition lately.
What an honor to have Senator Lisa Murkowski visit the farm this month. During her visit, we shared with her our story, and most importantly were able to demonstrate one way that food production is possible on our island. As farmers, we appreciate her work on the 2023 Farm Bill to ensure that Alaska’s unique needs are represented. Agriculture in Alaska sometimes requires a bit of creativity, and we love being part of a solution to food sustainability and security here in Southeast.
The early morning deliveries have been super clutch this summer, but it's not quite as bright out at 4:00 am anymore. While our temps are still a bit warmer, be sure to leave a cooler out for us on delivery day. Thanks, Ketchikan!
Attention slug trainers!! There's only one more day to bulk up your slugs and get them fueled to cross the finish line first. He's no banana slug, but Speedy here has been feasting like a champ. We hope to see you at Ketchikan's annual slug race tomorrow (9:30 weigh-in & 10:30 race)!

The SLUG events are for Wranglers 12 years of age and younger. There is no need to sign up the Slug or the Slug Wrangler in advance. The weigh in for the Biggest Slug in the WORLD begins at 9:30am, and the Race for the Fastest Slug in the WORLD begins at 10:30am.
The amazing SLUG events will take place at the intersection of Main and Mission Streets.

Our niece, Jozy, is fast becoming a little farmer just like her cousin. These days at the farm are my absolute favorite. There's nothing better than kids decked out in hairnets and harvest buckets. Good job, Jozy!
We hope everyone enjoyed their holiday in the sunshine! Porter is making deliveries today, and he just stopped by Fish From Trish to restock her cooler. Bethany is in the shop and is open until 5 pm.

Our seed collection is a blend of wishful thinking and practicality. It also requires a considerable amount of organization and attention. We plant 10,000 lettuce seeds per month, so keeping our inventory well-stocked ensures no interruptions to our weekly harvesting.
This month's order included the staples that we love along with some fancy sample seeds to trial (chervil, shiso, orach). We're always on the hunt for fun and tasty things to add to our blends or to offer chefs.
Does your collection of delivery bags look something like this? If so, we will gladly help you declutter your pantry. On your next lettuce delivery day, you can simply leave them outside for us, and we'll reuse them. Thank you!
Before & After...Our wall of leafy greens requires trimming one leaf at a time. A fully trimmed wall feels like quite an accomplishment. Just seven days later it's become a jungle of green again and it's time to repeat. Plants are amazing!
