If you have been doing some work with your nervous dog and you’ve made progress but you’re not sure what to do next, find yourself a dog friendly store such as Bunnings (Australia) or Home Depot (US).
Here are 3 reasons why these environments are great for your Nervous Dog:
1️⃣ There is so much you can expose your dog to. Escalators, elevators, different aisles, trolleys etc… It’s a great way to learn more about your nervous dog and what they still struggle with, that way you can work on it!
2️⃣ If your dog is dog reactive, it’s a controlled environment with not many dogs. All dogs are on a lead (as per the conditions of entry) and you can safely make space or move to a different aisle. If your dog is human reactive, most humans are busy looking for things and won’t give your dog much attention. If they do, you can always advocate for your dog and tell them your dog is in training.
3️⃣ It’s a great way to challenge your Nervous Dog and continue to build on their resilience and confidence so you don’t plateau.
Hey if you’re not at that level yet and you need help to get started with your nervous dog, I got you!
👉You can book in a virtual consultation, or enroll in my online course designed for Nervous Dogs! LINK IN BIO for both options!

See you there!
🐶Luka is a 5 months old golden retriever puppy. We have started introducing the concept of loose lead walking to her at around 4 months old.
All we did was show her where she needs to walk. We picked a side and heavily rewarded her for walking near that leg.
Because we built so much value for walking in this position, she’s more than happy to offer this behaviour!
This environment was a little bit distracting but she did amazing considering how young she is!
📣I have an online course about loose lead walking! If you want to learn more about it comment “LLW”.

⚠️Puppy socialisation isn’t only about interacting with people, dogs etc… This is barely 5% of puppy socialisation and the interaction isn’t always necessary.
✅Puppy socialisation is about teaching puppies to cope and adapt to environments, events, handling. Teaching them that our human world isn’t scary, storms are fine, loud trucks are okay and the guy with the umbrella is not a threat.
👉During the critical puppy socialisation period, it’s important to expose puppies to mainly everything they might encounter in their life and teach them to be neutral and to be okay with everything.
📣I have a mini PDF on how to socialise your puppy with a checklist! Comment “PUPPY” and I will send it to you!

ℹ️How to do this with your dog:
-Find a safe environment. Outside a dog park works great as it allows you to control the distance.
-Find your dog’s threshold. What distance do you need to start at? Is your dog able to look at the trigger (the other dog) without stiffening and locking? If the answer is no, then you’re too close, back away and find your dog’s sweet spot.
-When your dog looks at the trigger, use your reward marker and reward your dog (your dog should have a pre-loaded reward marker). Do this a few times and then wait, wait for your dog to choose to look at you. Don’t give any commands, don’t talk, just wait. When your dog chooses to look at you, give a big jackpot reward, have a party.
-Rinse and repeat at a closer distance.
Happy training!🐾
