A bit about our bunnies:
At Vale Bunnies, welfare of our animals is of the upmost importance to us. This is why we adhere to the Five Freedoms.
Freedom from hunger and thirst: Our bunnies all have access to fresh water from clean drinking bottles. They have unlimited access to fresh meadow hay and organic grass. They also receive a complementary feed of pellets each day to supplement their diet. As well as this, our rabbits enjoy mixed greens, broccoli, kale, dandelions and receive treats of carrots and fruit.
Freedom from discomfort: Our rabbits each have fully enclosed nest boxes in which to sleep in as well as generous sized runs where they exercise daily. We do not advocate the use of breeding cages which are often stacked on top of each other and provide cramped unnatural conditions for the rabbits without space to exercise.
Freedom from pain, injury or disease: I am trained in animal first aid, I also have a ND in Animal Management as well as a BSc Hons Animal Behaviour degree. Our rabbits are registered with the local vet. They are vaccinated and receive medical help if issues arise.
Freedom to express normal behaviour: sufficient space is provided to allow our bunnies the freedom to run and jump. Wood chips line the floors of our runs to create a more natural substrate which allows our bunnies to dig. Our bunnies can all see each other and enjoy time together. As well as this we have enriched the environment with logs, tunnels and branches which create a more natural environment for the bunny and ensure their happiness.
Freedom from fear and distress: Our enclosures provide places to hide as well as shelter from the elements. Our rabbits are loved and handled daily by our whole family.
