Zoe in the mustang trail challenge 2021
Hailey and Zoe in the mustang trail challenge. They did their best and it was great! They took 5th place.
Introducing clippers to Zoe
The state fair is coming up next week. Hailey figured it was time to introduce Zoe to the clippers. She did pretty well. Hailey did not clip her yet, but with this filly, she has learned to take things slow.
Ponying Zoe
Hailey worked ponied Zoe yesterday. Zoe is responding very well to verbal cues.

In-hand trail at the Rigby 4-H horse show
Hailey and Zoe did in-hand trail at the Rigby 4-H horse show. It was definitely not perfect, but now they know what more they need to work on. I love how Zoe trusts Hailey.
Zoe in showmanship
Hailey did showmanship with Zoe at the Rigby 4-H horse show. Hailey loves showmanship. Zoe did great.

Backing out of the trailer. Perfect the first time!
So I know that you guys have seen Zoe get in the trailer, but this time she got in and backed out. She loves to back up. It’s been her way of getting away from stuff she didn’t want to do since day one, but now her great backing skills have helped her out in getting out of the trailer. 😁❤️👍🏻
First time loading in a trailer
Today Hailey got Zoe to get in the horse trailer. This by far was the easiest thing to do with her. For some reason she likes the trailer.
Kissing Zoe
Hailey is trying new things everyday. Surprisingly, Zoe let’s Hailey get close enough to kiss her with her face, but not with her hand.
Zoe running under that tarp
Zoe is more afraid of people than the tarp, but progress was made today! She would actually run under the tarp on her own.
This beginning stage has been hard. Zoe has done a lot of running and reacting to anything and everything.
Zoe has been slow to trust. Hailey has gotten to touch her nose just a few times. She is starting to come around a little and allow Hailey to come closer and smell her hand or touch it briefly. Hailey is still learning pressure and release and practicing getting her timing right. They are both learning a lot of patience and to trust each other.
Hailey has started desensitizing more from a distance. Being less careful in her movements and intentionally being a little crazy, throwing her arms around, jumping up and down and making some noise so that Zoe knows stuff like that isn’t going to hurt her. She has started being less reactive. It is so good to see her settle down and relax.
After a week and a half of little to no progress, we wished that we would have had the lead rope put on Zoe on pick up day. We had a friend come over and rope her and eventually we got the lead rope on. It took 2 1/2 hours.
Hailey had to go to Moscow for FFA this week, so we have been trying help Zoe get more comfortable with people and see them as good. Hailey’s dad is not really a horse person, but this little filly may win him over.
Loading in the trailer to go home.
