We have devoted much time and effort over the years to this breed. In doing so we have learned so much but in that we always realize how much more there is to learn. About Bassets
The Basset Hound is known for its long ears, droopy eyes, short legs and friendly disposition. The "Hush Puppy" trademark makes this breed iconic. They truly melt your heart with their sad solemn expression. Their loyal devoted demeanor makes this breed a family favorite. The character is written all over them! Originally from France, the Basset was bred for the hunt. They are the top in tracking due to their low to the ground nose and long ears which aids in picking up the scent. The word Basset is derived from "bas", meaning low. Even though they were bred for their hunting instincts, they are equally at home as a beloved companion. Not a frisky, hyper breed, but a calm sometimes lazy couch potato who just wants to please! Health Guarantee
You the buyer will be given all health records and proper registration forms for your puppy. Your puppy has been provided with the best care possible. We give a 2-year guarantee against 4 hereditary conditions i.e., glaucoma, Von Willebrand’s disease, Thrombopathia and Heart disease. Your puppy has been raised for the first 8 to 10 weeks of life on Nuvet Plus supplements. This guarantee is only valid if your puppy is on at least 2 years of daily Nuvet Plus vitamins starting the day he/she leaves our kennel and you purchase a Home Essentials Kit. We believe so strongly in Nuvet Plus daily supplements and treating and preventing illness and life's occasional health situations, i.e., ear infections, aches and sprains with non toxic, synthetic free choices, rather than antibiotics and harsh chemicals that have multiple side effects... that we have included it in our contract to ensure the health and well being of your puppy. Please allow your first line of defense to be a natural solution. I will teach you how! This can save you so much on vet costs... learning to treat you, your families' and your animals health needs is very empowering. We do not guarantee the following on any puppy sold:
A. future development of Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD), Elbow dysplasia
B. Entropian, Ectropian, Cataracts, or other eye conditions not listed above
C. Behavioral problems or personality traits not associated with temperament
D. The Breeder is not responsible for any type of parasite problem the puppy has from
the date the puppy leaves our property onwards. Upon receiving your puppy you have 96 hours (excluding weekends and holidays) from that date to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian. If the veterinarian finds that the puppy has a life-threatening condition that makes it a health risk, you have the option of returning the dog immediately AT BUYERS EXPENSE, and there must be a written statement and the test results documentation from your veterinarian mailed to us as proof of the condition and we will replace the puppy with another one that is available. If no puppies are available in the current litter, you will be put on the list for the next planned litter and that pup will be shipped to you free of shipping costs. WE DO NOT ISSUE REFUNDS IN THIS CASE. YOUR PUP WILL EITHER BE REPLACED WITH AN EXISTING PUP OR YOU WILL BE PUT ON ANOTHER LIST OF YOUR CHOICE FOR ANOTHER PUP OUT OF THAT LITTER AND RECEIVE FREE SHIPPING IF SHIPPING IS NEEDED. Elan’s stud farm is NOT responsible for any decisions made by your vet or for any vet bills which could occur during the 4 day period or ANYTIME after. We will NOT be responsible for any medical bills pertaining to your puppy once it leaves our kennel. If at any time you decide you do not want your puppy even into adulthood, Hounful Heart will take your dog back, no questions asked. Your pup will have had regular wormings and regular treatments for parasites and its first set of vaccines before it leaves our kennel. After your pup leaves our kennel, we are not responsible for minor things such as parasites, worms, Giardia, Coccidia, cryptosporidium, diarrhea or other minor conditions such as bladder infections, ear infections which can easily be resolved with simple medication. Your pup is at risk for all canine diseases until it has had the remaining vaccines that you are responsible for giving. One week after the final vaccine at week 17, your puppy should be fully vaccinated and therefore safe to take out into the world, i.e., parks etc. We are not responsible for undescended te**is, umbilical hernias or inguinal hernias, Pano, hip dysplasia or any other developed condition. Again, Elan’s stud farm has provided your puppy with the proper medications to prevent all forms of parasites and illness, going above and beyond to meet nutritional demands and extra vitamin supplementation and probiotics, socialization and training to provide you with a premium healthy, stable puppy. Special Skills: Hound and family pet, can be used to hunt rabbit, great trackers. Watch Dog: Highly suspicious of strangers, but will want to lick them, will not bite. Guard Dog: Low, tends to be very friendly

Living Environment: Will do well in house or apartment as they are very sedentary indoors, but will enjoy outdoor activities

All breeding are done and planned thru our local vet who performs our progesterone tests to ensure Ovulation and then when levels are reached AI services are then performed so all breeding are done clinically to reduce infections. Pups are usually whelped at 61 days of gestation and are whelped up stairs in our whelping room where accommodations are provided for our human nurses to spend their days and nights observing the pups up to their 3rd week birthday. At this point weaning is started and this will take up to one week during which mom is constantly on watch for Mastitis, as the milk is slowly dried up. Mom is then introduced back to the kennel and will now have a well deserved break for the next year or so as we do not do back to back breeding with our Females. We enjoy our bassets and consider them all family here as our children. So like children they can now show or play till their next litter is due in a year or so.

As our bassets are shown regularly, and the Judges have told us by Presenting us with wins (Championships) that we are building a correct Basset Hound, thus eliminating structural problems such as crooked legs and feet, back problems or hip problems, as a Basset that is not built properly will not achieve a championship and could be a potential for body illnesses down the road that is commonly found in poorly built basset hounds. Both structure and movement are essential for a sound basset hound.

As well we have folloPuppy at playwed back in generations for health issues and have been very lucky to have not seen any. If a health issue did arise these dogs would not be bred again and would be spayed or neutered to prevent this from happening. Thus said, by following a Basset Hound standard we build and produce an excellent Basset Hound of Show Quality for a show dog or a perfect pet which ever suites your needs.

I go by the name Damian Moore. I grew up on a small farm with my 4 siblings and my Australian Shepherd – Border Collie mix. She was my very best friend and I just adored her. I never went anywhere without her. She had 3 different litters of puppies.
Her puppies were always SO adorable! I just love puppies and can’t get enough of them! we started looking for a dog small enough to live in the house with us, but we also didn’t want to deal with a lot of shedding. My husband recommended basset hound because of their excellent nature.

Our pet/companion pups we consider making available to approved homes are placed on the AKC Limited Register with Dogs.
In consultation with our Vet we will undertake a long-planned breeding undertaking with our delightful homebred tri-colour girl in December and look forward to the privilege of meeting her newborns.
The Lineage/Bloodline details of our Bassets is available from the Australian National Kennel Council (ANKC) database and copies are available on request.
Our pups have a thorough Vet Health Check post birth and again at 6 weeks of age when, at this Vet visit, they have their Microchip inserted along with their C4 Vaccination.
