Hi Friends,
It's with a very heavy heart that I write this. Moose, aka Amos, has crossed the rainbow bridge.
We have been remembering all of our good times with our thick-tailed young-old hunk'a cat, and all the funny and quirky memories, such as how much he loved his scratching post, chasing stick bird toys, chittering at the birds outside the window, tolerating Bootsie's affection, eating treats, begging for turkey, eating DUST (why, kitty, why?), how much he despised bananas, and enjoyed his naps on my desk while I worked from home, and so, so much more.
Through all of his playfulness, he was (as is typical for cats) masking any discomfort he was feeling from a cancer in his abdomen that was too far progressed to treat by the time he told us he was uncomfortable. We first noticed a slightly decreased appetite and desire to play, but when he made a new meow that we had never heard before when petting his neck and sides, we knew it was distress. That's also when we noticed he was looking rounder then normal. We brought him to our family vet who took xrays and sent us immediately to the emergency vet due to fluid in the abdomen. The news there was not good, advanced and aggressive carcinomatosis, with an unusual cancer cell type even for cat cancers seen in the fluid that was sent for testing. Moose didn't respond to steroids or GI support meds, and continued to decline quickly. We made the difficult decision to ease his obvious pain and suffering.
For now, there's a Moose-sized hole in our hearts. We know we did the best we could for our awesome black-furred boy, but it is gonna hurt for a bit. Thanks for joining us on this journey with Amos/Moose. I'm sure our ongoing furbaby story isn't over.

Ladies and gents, Amos is off the market! We love him so much, we decided to keep him. Happy gotcha day, Amos! (Who henceforth shall also be known as Moose.)

We cannot say enough good things about how rewarding it can be to help a frightened cat out of his shell. And when the cat is this good looking, what else do you need? You're welcome!

It took a while to figure out that this warm pad is warm, but now he loves it. When it's couch potato time, if he's not on a lap, he's on the warm pad toasting his toes. (Or not, as in this case, where his toes are the only part he's not warming up!)

Look who's feeling better! has had an upper respiratory infection and stopped eating for a few days because he couldn't smell that his food was food. But he's eating now, and finally came back to me for belly rubs!
Kobi is still on meds for a few more days, but is ready for his forever home, a place that's calm with warm laps and a good seat on the sofa so he can be the couch potato he is. 😸

Good morning!
Kobi is feeling under the weather this morning, so we've decided to stay home from the adoption fair and give him some time to rest. Just a little upset tummy, he should be feeling better soon.
Amos feels great and would like to be doing anything other than relaxing at home. Funny boy, after being a grump in his cage yesterday. He really does come out of his shell in a home with people to be around.
If the boys don't have their purr-ever homes by next year, we'll be back at adoption fairs then. Happy holidays, everyone!

Amos and Kobi were well-behaved at the adoption fair, but didn't really want to be there. Neither were adopted, so if you're interested, you have another shot tomorrow, Sunday Dec 17 from noon to 3 at 's Fair Lakes PetSmart adoption fair. That's the last one for the year!
Much like at the shelter, Amos spent the whole time with his back turned, so all anyone could see was his butt. Kobi faced forward a lot, but stuck to the back of the case and away from prying fingers. Their personalities do not show in those small cages, but hopefully they find their forever homes. Their fees are waived for December!

is all chill. He'll hang out with you in the office, on the couch, in bed, whatever you fancy. Amos (new nickname "Moose") didn't want to be in the same room, but calmed down once he was up on the cat tree.
Kobi (and Amos, of course) will be at 's adoption fair at Fair Lakes PetSmart from 12 to 3 on Saturday and Sunday. Come say hi, and maybe take home a new cuddle potato!

is a really great office companion. When he's not trying to steal your lunch, anyway. After scoffing at my calendar and schnurfing around my lunch plate, he settled down on my mousepad. The first picture was taken last, and a few minutes later he was sleeping.

had taken a shine to what we call "cat TV." I put out birdseed and plopped a cat tree by the storm door so the boys could watch the birds. Amos was sitting and chittering at them for a while. Very cute!

Kobi is super chill. Like, sooooo chill. Jeff do fine in a house with other cats, respectful kids, and probably even very relaxed dogs (we don't know for sure about dogs, though... we're guessing based on his personality).

Friends and followers, fostering a cat can be a rewarding experience. The moment a cat comes home from a cage and STREEEEEETCHES out to their longest length is so great to see. Can't commit long-term? Be a cage-break foster, get on the social media wagon, and get your rent-free tenants into forever homes before they go back to a cage. :)
🎄Home for the Holidays🎄
Are you staying home over the holidays? Do you have a spare room for a cat in need? FCDRT would love to see all four of our adoption centers emptied over the holidays. Please consider giving a cat a chance to stretch their legs for three weeks and keep you company during break! Who knows...you might just meet your next family member!
Aside from the benefit of a break and change of scenery for our feline friends, this time off outside the adoption centers affords our center volunteers a much-needed break for the holidays!
Fostering would begin Sunday, December 17th and cats can be returned either Saturday or Sunday, January 6th or 7th! Please open your home if you can. A three-week break from the cage would mean the world to these cats.

Amos is still shy about his new accommodations. He comes out and wanders around, and is super friendly. He really likes his rope scratching post.
He's a gentle soul and his forever home should be a chill, relaxing space for him (with a good scratching station!). He will blossom. :)

snuck past some defenses last night and got under the bed. I decided to let him be, and sure enough, after some pets and a few bites to eat, he came out for some attention.
needed no convincing. After a light breakfast and some silent judging, he is back in my lap watching Rebels with me so we can get the backstory for Ahsoka. Amos isn't cuddly yet, but he's on the sofa nearby.

Sound up to hear #AmosFCDRT singing at the birbs. This is our morning routine. I come to the office, make breakfast for us, and then open the door so Amos can watch the world outside. He spends a good half hour chirping at the wildlife before he settles I in for a morning nap. Amos and Bootsie are often up to something, so we set up a cat-cam to keep an eye on them. Here's a cute moment the camera caught. Nose boops! #SophiaFCDRT is still shy and prone to finding a small hiding spot. But when people are with her, she is full of quiet purrs, head bonks, and mooshy paws. After 48 hours in the guest bathroom, we've invited her to join us in the den. She's started exploring, but returns to the bathroom when she needs a quiet place to decompress. We think in a few more days she'll bloom into quite the little love-bug. Sophia needs a quiet, calm home where she is possibly the only pet. She would probably do fine with respectful older children. She is a little overweight and needs to be on a diet (no free-feeding and no kibble) but she's not on a special diet otherwise. A year ago, #BootsieFCDRT arrived Chez DLWCatFoster semi-feral, skin-and-bones at only a smidge over 6 pounds, a mouth full of rotten teeth, with a bad case of the runs, and absolutely terrified of humans. Now look at this stripey orange butterball, toothless but for one bottom canine, tummy under control with special food and an easy to give med (pill pockets ftw), rolling around on our bed, grooming, and chill.
