This was our thank you from Patitas De Amor in April! I tried to post it then but FB has become so complicated and it didn't work! Thank you so much to the friends who help me to raise some of the money that I need each month to help the rescuers over there. 🇲🇽

Update on Goofy ❤️❤️❤️
"Mexican Dog Rescue Melbourne" supported Goofy's operation initially, but then the funds were needed for another dear street dog called Luz who sadly could not be saved.

This is one of our supporting rescue groups who do great work and always in need of financial assistance. 🇲🇽

This little girl unfortunately didn't make it, but now she is no longer suffering thanks to the wonderful people at "Helping Street Dogs In Mexico" and "Patitas De Amor " who work tirelessly to help the homeless, starving, sick and injured dogs and who do not get paid for the work.
With support from friends, I sent money to help a dog called Goofy, but instead that money was used to help "Luz".
RIP dear girl. https://www.facebook.com/1089634391102631/posts/5894543300611692/?sfnsn=mo&mibextid=RUbZ1f

Luz....
We took her to specialists this morning and she was x-rayed from head to foot. I have some sad news. The X-rays show severe problems especially with the front supporting leg. She has been in excruciating pain for a very very long time. There is no padding at all left between the joints on the front leg bones. Same for the spine and there was similar loss beginning to happen in the back legs. Two specialists in this office said it would be cruel to keep her going with the amount of pain she was in.

We spoke to her original rescue group who shipped her up to us for medical treatment, Patitas de Amour, and asked for permission to gently put her to sleep. I had to use all of Goofy's money to pay for this trip so we are back to raising money again. It was not a fun morning to say the least. RIP our little ray of light, she had bonded with our staff at the refuge so quickly - we are all sad to see her go like this.

We need to raise $3,200 Pesos to pay for the medical costs for Luz (which came out of the hip surgery fund for Goofy). We are lucky we have patient vets who care about the animals and know we are good for the money.

Please consider a donation as we ARE in need right now.

NEW YORK TRIP.... USDA paperwork is still not approved for BART and the trip is on the 19th!!! We will find out on Monday if he can travel. If not, he will still go to New York, but not until April 1st on the Mexico Express Bus. Then the paperwork will be more simple.

GOOFY
Goofy's hip is healing well, he is a little young to have to stay still for the time he needs for healing but we are managing to keep him safe and comfortable and quiet. Vet bill will be paid this week thanks to Karen Micallef's kind donation.

SHIPPING
Arranging the shipment of 7 more dogs, not sure where they are going to land. These dogs are difficult to adopt, some are very old with health issues, some were severely abused and have behavioural issues, one is feral. But they will all be rehomed very carefully so it may take some time. I'll post when they are on their way!

300 DOGS!
Helping a rescue in Mexico who have 300 dogs and no place to send them. The owner of the rescue is very ill and a nice expat woman is helping her out. We can't take the dogs in but we will walk them through the process of getting them healthy and sent to new forever homes. It takes a village is such a common but true statement in dog rescue and when we can, we always try to help other groups support their animals when we can.

We are still in a holding patter, no new animals coming into the refuge as we are completely full. We hope with a few more shipments, things can open up a bit more.

FUNDRAISER AT A STANDSTILL!
Please consider donating even a small amount.

We moved to Mexico 7 years ago thinking we would arrive and volunteer at a animal shelter. Instead we ended up being the only animal shelter in our town... we are very well-known here as the "Canadians" who rescue dogs. The first 5 years we had all the animals in our home, up to 35 at a time... it was insane. Puppies, hurt dogs that needed vet care and old un-adoptables, all living in harmony. We learned a lot, we learned it quickly and we did things we never could have imagined. Our town now has 3 new rescue organizations open up over the last 2 years. We know our group inspired others to jump in and help.

It's been a crazy ride and due to COV19 we see a decline in donations and followers which is concerning to us because we still have dogs and cats in severely bad conditions that need our help every single day. Over the next couple of months we are going to work on our social media skills and build up a bigger community of animal advocates who want to help our rescue animals. It will be a steep learning curve without a social media expert to help but we are gonna do it!

In 2023 we will finally get our 503(c)(3) status for Fundacion DAR (our refuge) and be able to give our American donors tax receipts! Thanks to Eva who has put together a Board of Directors in the USA and is working with a specialized lawyer to get all our paperwork done. We suspect we will have it by April 2023 if all goes well. We are already fully registered in Mexico.

Please Donate to our fundraiser, we have a FULL house and really need to open up more spaces for animals in need waiting on the street to be picked up and cared for. We appreciate your support!

To donate:
AMOUNT RAISED: $1,278.82 CAD
AMOUNT NEEDED: $2,500.00 CAD

Type: DOG TRIPS in your donation description

Photo: Me (Monique) with Nona, our 3rd rescue dog in Canada before we moved to Mexico. She was an 14 year old, demented, blind, drooling little thug but we loved her for 3 short years. I'm a lot older now, my hair is greyer but I am still fighting for animals in need with the same energy I always had.

LIL CHI PUPS...
It's a sad situation... the foster mom who picked them up off the street and promised to take these two to the vets the same day she got them. I checked these pups that day (last Friday) and while they were not in great condition, with vet care they had a chance. Instead she waited 5 days before getting them checked out. 5 days too late. Yesterday I picked them up... they were stiff, cold and super dehydrated. I rushed them to our vets where they have been overnight. We are now not sure if they will survive. They are tiny and too young to be away from mom, the worst combination you can have. We were pulling large ants off their bodies at the vet office. Today in about an hour the clinic will open and we will find out if either of them survived the night. Will keep you updated on these two littles who I have named Lucy and Ricardo (Ricky).

OUR FOLLOWERS
I've been posting now for 6 years for my dog rescue and we have 1400 followers. That's not really a lot, I post diligently, I do my best but its obvious something is missing because we are just not growing our community at all. Any social media gurus out there willing to help us reach out and find more followers, younger people who want to help our dog rescue - please let us know. We are open to advice and willing to make changes.

FLIGHT ANGELS REALLY REALLY NEEDED FOR:
Mexico City to Seattle (5 small dogs)

PLEASE SHARE THIS AROUND. Without flight angels, 10 dogs will miss the opportunity to find great new forever homes.

Our little Mexican rescue saved these three dogs from the street about 2 years ago and they are still looking for a home. It's very difficult to find homes for the adult dogs. 😕 Currently they are living in Zacapoaxtla. ♥️
We also support with regular donations to Patitas De Amor in Tezuitlan, and Helping Street Dogs In Mexico. Thank you so much to the small group of friends who assist me in this cause.
