This festive season, we have teamed up with DAEREA to urge the public to think twice before buying an animal this Christmas.

First and foremost, please beware of the Cruel Puppy Trade and to avoid illegal breeders at all costs. The conditions in which puppies from these breeders are raised is appalling. Please do not engage with these unscrupulous and dangerous individuals.

More advice on how to protect yourself can be found on the link in our story.

Secondly, we urge all potential pet owners to think very carefully to ensure they can provide for the animal’s care and veterinary needs throughout their lifetime. Our Animal Care and Rehoming Manager has stated, “There has been a notable increase in enquiries from people considering giving up their beloved pet due to the cost-of-living crisis.”

If you have seriously considered getting a pet, we recommend you wait until after Christmas and then adopt from some of the many rescue centers and shelters throughout Northern Ireland.
