Two years ago I drove to a PetSmart down the road after seeing a sad little face on PetFinder at 3 am. A picture spoke 1000 words, and the cleft lip, crushed ears, and sad eyes staring at me from the cage said it all. Mathilda, as she was known then, had been smacked, abused, rehomed, and thrown on Craigslist. The rescue said she was a healthy 8 year old otherwise, and I happily took her home.

Two years later we have learned the true meaning of resilience, strength, and ultimate love. Thuthan is my heart and soul, and the sweetest little love of my life. I’ve never known a smarter creature, nor one so wholly devoted to her family. Every day I’m amazed by the things this cat has overcome. She regained her meow, has dealt with chronic kidney disease and inflammatory bowel disease, chronic UTIs and peeing blood. Arthritis and declaws (not by us). Still, she radiates love and tenacity. She is adored throughout the world, and her hospital staff consider Thuthan their mascot.

Happy gotcha day my love, you are my muse in life and I will forever be grateful for everything you’ve given to me.
