Meet one of our new buddies, Macks.

We pulled this 12 year old guy from CMACC and quickly had him evaluated by our vet today.

Macks’ is currently 26 lbs. where he should be at most 18 lbs. He has started medication for conjunctivitis, hoping that clears up all current eye issues.

Needs surgery for
-mass removal
-severe dental disease
-pluck and clean ears / yeast infection

We also ran bloodwork and did an ultrasound which unfortunately showed an issue with his liver and even more so his gallbladder. He has started medication and will be re-evaluated in 2 weeks. If bloodwork and ultrasound show the progress we are looking for he will immediately go into surgery.

While we are waiting for his next vet appointment, we will continue to show him all the love and, while initial mats were shaved, get this guy a long overdue grooming! He’s got a long road ahead but we are so glad to be a part of him journey.

Instagram vs. reality…. What gives?

Certain “breeds” or “looks” leave people blinded by the cuteness, agreeing during discussions about crate training and boundaries though the words are truly not being heard. Sometimes resulting in the dog being returned when reality sets in. This makes finding the right home that much harder for certain pups, as we want to do everything we can to ensure it’s the right fit not just for right now, but for the life of the dog.

Colorado and his siblings were rescued off a property where they were living in a crate with limited interaction. He is approximately 5 months old and currently >35 lbs. We aren’t certain of exact breeding, though we were told the adults on the property were mixed with rott, cattle dog, and possibly catahoula - all very intelligent breeds with a high drive and will need dedicated owners willing to put in the work for training!

What we know so far about Colorado:

Colorado aka Rado is the most loving boy. He is a little timid when first meeting people but warms up quickly. He gets along with other dogs and is quickly learning how to play fetch. He is learning how to settle but loves to chew on a bone or toy. He is starting to enjoy walks but gets a little nervous if a car goes by. He is making great progress on being comfortable in his crate!

Our buddy Stan has come SUCH a long way since joining us on January 2nd. He’s been receiving much needed TLC and medication to start the various treatments he needs, and now this week he needs all the healing vibes.

On top of other minor medical care he needed, Stan is receiving his final heartworm injections, being neutered, and having several teeth extracted from his severe dental disease. A lot of tests and preparation have gone into making sure Stan is ready and stable for this care, and he’ll be getting the best treatment from our friends at

Corduroy 🐻

This two month old grizzly is ready to find his forever home! He’s been a playful, independent ball of fluff. While you’ll want to cuddle up to all that fur, Corduroy prefers to have his space as he’s not a big cuddler and gets hot snuggling blankets. He’s loved playing with the other dogs in his foster house! We have no idea what his breeds are so we are looking for a family who will be up for anything as this little guy grows!

Meet Honey

As what usually happens when any kind of purebred is shared, a quick pic of honey brought a flood of messages and emails, so we wanted to quickly introduce her and share what information we do have.

Honey’s backyard breeder was discovered by a puppies for sale sign. Her and her siblings are 9 months old and have only ever lived outside. Her siblings have been adopted or gone to rescue out of state, and Honey will be staying with Billie’s Buddies thanks to her dedicated and experienced foster.

Honey has never been in a house and is very nervous. Nervous of people, nervous of the tv, nervous of her food bowl. She’s not house trained. She’s not crate trained. She simply does not know how to be a dog. We will be spending time allowing her to decompress and learn all of these things, setting her up for a successful future adoption. She is also not vetted and is receiving a full workup.

Honey will be adoptable once she receives a clean bill of health and we know more about her personality once she settles in.

There are so many dogs that many *ethical* breeders have slowed down or halted breeding because the demand is simply not there. Spay and neuter your animals and know where your dogs are coming from. Honey and her siblings being in this situation is inexcusable.

Meet Daisy

We are devastated to share the loss of our little Levi. 🌈 When he came into rescue, we noticed something wasn’t quite right, and after various testing we discovered Levi had a congenital deformity causing painful and unresolvable medical complications.

Sending so much love to his foster family who showered him with love his short time in rescue and was with him through the very end.

This little bb was surrendered in bad shape. We don’t know much other than she wasn’t eating, was having trouble breathing, has low body temp and blood sugar, and loaded with worms. She was just admitted to @carecharlotte where we await answers as they work to stabilize her. Thank you to the help of @voicesforlancaster.scanimals acting quickly to get her immediate attention, and to @billies_buddies friends jumping to action to help anyway they can for this little girl.
