Thats a great question! In dog training we have this little thing called proofing (no not like letting bread rise 🍞) Proofing basically means that we check our work with the dog in a variety of locations and settings to ensure that the dog understands the behaviour. Because as cute and smart as they are dogs don’t generalise very well.
🧠If we add more challenges to a behaviour (once the dog has a base level of understanding) we help the dog to build confidence in the behaviour, generalise the skill and we actually make the behaviour easier for them because they have worked through more challenges

This dog has made me so proud 🥲
She shows up to every session with a fantastic attitude and is ready to go 👏🏼 the ball is her favourite thing in the world and through using this we have been able to have her off lead and around dogs whilst keeping her focused. Over the last few weeks I have been teaching her some new skills like “around” and “middle” just to keep things interesting ✨
Katie is now probably one of the best behaved dogs down at the beach, she handles off lead dogs approaching like a champ, ignores people and other dogs and works with me in having a great game of fetch. By spending the time doing the training and being consistent Katie gets to live the dream and be a beach dog 🏖️
