I am truly at a loss for words to express the profound devastation I feel upon losing my beloved best friend of 13 years earlier this week.

Only those who have experienced such a loss can truly comprehend the overwhelming sorrow that accompanies the absence of your special dog's familiar footsteps on the floor. The realization that they are gone forever hits hard, leaving an indescribable emptiness.

While we knew that we’d need to eventually fill that void, I also recognized that not waiting would enable us to redirect our minds towards creating new and beautiful memories, rather than dwelling on the trauma of the loss.

And so here’s my new reason to get up every morning - Brie. She has some big doggie shoes to fill and she’s been nothing short of perfect. I’m hoping she’ll have a very happy and healthy life with us.

Thank you for making me a westie mom again, Brie 🤍

Introducing Louis! Louis Lou 🥹

He's quickly finding his place in our hearts and home, embracing his sweet and gentle nature. With boundless puppy energy, we ventured to the dog park today to let him burn it off. Potty training is a work in progress, but we're staying consistent.

It's been just three days, and while Louis is thriving, the cats and Beza, our 13 YO westie, are taking some time to adjust. 🤪

A little backstory on how I ended up here…

The first time I came to the US was in 2017 to work as a camp counselor and farm animal specialist. I was halfway through vet school at that point. It was truly an extraordinary experience. I worked with chickens, goats, snakes, ferrets, and some pretty amazing people whom I still stay in touch with to this day. It was also that summer when I met my now-husband of 4 years.

Why am I sharing this now? Because tomorrow, I become eligible to apply for US citizenship, and this month, we are celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary. If it weren't for the significant risk I took back in 2017, when my life was not in the best place, and I was failing school (pharmacology), not knowing what to do next, I wouldn't be here. Sometimes the wildest, most unexpected journeys can take you to places you never even dreamed of. 🥹

My journey to obtaining my veterinary license hinges on conquering just two remaining exams. Yet, reality has taught me that this path is far from a walk in the park, urging me to shift my perspective. Rather than fixating on the elusive "when," I have come to embrace the transformative power of focusing on the "how" - a relentless dedication to buckle down, immerse myself in studies, and learn more and more every day. After all, being a doctor means you never stop learning, even when all the exams are over. ✌🏻
