Mustang Update!! I have decided that this year I will be dropping out of the Mustang Makeover. Between buying a house, a full time job, and starting my own business it hasn’t left as much time for Twister as I hoped although we have been making a ton of strides lately. She’s just not being ridden to the degree many of the other competition horses are by this point. I do plan to compete in the next makeover and Im just using this one as a learning curve! Twister is now considered a TIP Mustang. She has already met the requirements for that but I still am going to finish her out as a riding horse for my own competition and find her a home. She is up for reassignment through the BLM for $125! Let me know if anyone is interested!

Video update for Twister! I plan to be better about getting videos in the upcoming weeks. I was able to move Twister about a week and half ago to my new house and its been a process setting everything up. I will hopefully update with more videos over the next few weeks a bit faster. Twister actually showed interest in sniffing me yesterday for the first time. She has been wanting nothing to do with me, but this is a step in the right direction. 😅😂

I had a bit of trouble breaking the touch barrier the first day, but finally got in a few shoulder touches and I hope to get more happening in the next few days! This was our first touch!

How I go about introducing scary obstacles to the horses I work with! 🌳🐎 ✨ Have compassion ✨ Allow them to say no to it if they are scared ✨ Don’t get into a tugging match. (The horse would eventually win anyways) ✨ Be consistent ✨ Wait on them to relax ✨ Practice and repeat Happy Desensitizing! ❤️🐴

Round Penning is NOT for tiring your horse out. Round Penning is NOT for chasing your horse till they submit to your will. Round Penning IS for patience! Round Penning is IS for connection! Round penning should be used as a way to teach our horses (and ourselves) to be more present in the moment. When we create connection with the horse then our first world problems fall away. In this video this filly was pretty adamant about sticking her head to the outside and calling for her friends. Once we established a connection we were able to slow down and she started thinking towards me. This is what Round Penning is about!

Some steps to getting all the way on Cooper!

Is your horse bracey due to lack of feel or anxiety? A brace is a physical lack of bending or mental stiffness. In a well broke lesson horse they generally have a tendency to become bracey because people are still learning the timing on when to give the rein back to the horse. This can be incredibly frustrating to the horses and they will start to form a bracey neck. Cooper shows off an anxious brace, because starting out in his training I have asked him to stand still and ignore his instinctual thought of running away. Standing still and being ‘bracey’ was the right answer. Now that I’m ready to start him undersaddle we will start to tackle this head on using lateral flexion and softness. I ask for just a little give to the halter. This is the first step to teaching him how to turn and to give him a new tool that can help his anxiety if it starts undersaddle.

Just an example of how I would go about trailer loading a hard to load horse, although he turned out to be pretty easy! Stay till the end to see how good we got him. 😁

Do you wait on your horse enough? In this video Im introducing a saddle pad to the ‘wild’ mustang cooper. Working with him has been slow progress, but thats because I allow him to say no. Cooper is a little more protective of his left side than he is om his right side. Notice throughout the first half of this video this video he blocks my view and path to his back with the saddle pad. When I do this I stay where I am at and allow him to be curious about the pad. I don’t push past that block, because if I did that would break trust. He’s NOT ready yet. As he investigated the pad I wait and observe him. Hes cutious and even goes to nibble at it. When he is ready he puts his head back straight and I walk in and throw the pad on him. When I finally do put it on him he takes a deep breath! Acceptance, Relaxation! You can’t force a horse to feel those things if you push through boundries that they ask you to respect! At the end of this video he’s not really worried about the pad as much, but he is interested in engaging with me. He allows me to rub his gums and even brings his head back several times for it. I wouldn’t have this relationship with him if I didn’t allow him to say no. A relationship is a give and a take. A dictatorship is a take only relationship and there isn’t anythjng in it for the horse. Wait on them and you will get more. ❤️🐴
