ATTENTION MEMBERS: PLEASE REVIEW THE FOLLOWING GROUP GUIDELINES BEFORE POSTING OR COMMENTING.

If your post is declined, please review guideline #3 before contacting Admin.

1) NO BUYING AND SELLING PETS

Facebook does not allow the sale of pets and any exchange of money between private individuals such as asking for a rehoming fee violates this policy.

Do not put a $ amount or use any of the following words in posts or comments: BUY/BUYER, DEPOSIT, FEE/REHOMING FEE, PRICE, FREE, SALE/SELL.

2) NO “FREE TO GOOD HOME” POSTS

All posters must ask for a donation to be made to a rescue of their choice. The minimum donation is $50 for DOGS, $30 for CATS and $10 for SMALL CRITTERS (ex. birds, rabbits, hamsters, etc). Please keep in mind this is the MINIMUM donation that is required. You may ask for a larger donation to be made at your discretion. Please ask the adopter to provide proof of the donation prior to adopting your pet.

3) ADOPTION POSTS MUST FOLLOW THESE GUIDELINES:

a) If you are posting on behalf of someone else please contact Manitoba Pets for Rehoming Admin for approval prior to posting. Guidelines for rescues and shelters can be found here:

https://m.facebook.com/groups/2305930822951945/permalink/2878739542337734/

b) Please make a separate post for each pet with the exception of litters and/or bonded pairs that will be rehomed together. A photo must be included with your post (limit of one). If you want to post multiple photos please make a collage or post additional photos in the comments section.

WHEN POSTING A PET FOR ADOPTION PLEASE USE OUR POSTING TEMPLATE. YOU CAN COPY AND PASTE IT HERE:

Please choose and animal shelter or rescue from the following list:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2305930822951945/permalink/3221620548049630/

c) Edit your post every 14 days at minimum to keep members informed on the adoption status of the pet. Example, “UPDATE: September 1 Still Available. You can edit your post by clicking on the three dots in the top right corner of your post.

Bump you post every 7 days at minimum to keep your post visible on the page. To bump your post, comment “bump” in the comment section and your post will be moved up to the top of the page.

4) DO NOT DELETE ADOPTION POSTS

When you have successfully rehomed your pet please update your description to say “adopted”. This informs members that an adoption has taken place. Please do not delete the post. It serves as a record of what transpired in the group. You, the adopter or an admin may need to refer to it later. If you are in the process of finalizing an adoption then write “adoption pending” and update it once the adoption is final.

PLEASE NOTE: **If you delete your post and the adoption doesn’t work out you will not be allowed to re-post.** This creates unnecessary work for our admin team as it requires us to review and approve a new post rather than just turning commenting back out.

5) REHOME YOUR PET RESPONSIBLY

There is a list of questions posted in the announcements that you can use to screen potential adopters. You must do a meet and greet, reference check (including one veterinary reference) and a home check to ensure the adopter gave you the correct address. To prevent pets from being used for breeding, if your dog or cat is not spayed or neutered we strongly recommend doing this prior to adoption. If this is not done prior to adoption then it must be stated as a condition of adoption and we recommend getting the adopter to sign an adoption contract agreeing to have the pet fixed. Please follow up to ensure the adopter follows through.

6) COMMENTING AND PRIVATE MESSAGING

NO PRIVATE MESSAGES. If you are interested in adopting a pet please comment on the post and the owner will contact you if you are being considered. Do not comment on posts unless you are interested in adopting the pet or tagging someone who might be. Members who don’t follow this rule will be muted and/or removed without notice.

7) ADOPTER BEWARE

While we do our best to ensure owners provide as much information as possible about their pet, we have no way to verify the accuracy of this information. It is up to the adopter to do their due diligence and ask for proof of vaccinations and spay/neutered prior to adopting a pet. We also recommend having the transfer of ownership form signed at the time of adoption. We are not responsible for any inaccurate information and will not get involved in mediating disputes.

8)NO IN SEARCH OF POSTS

This page is for posting animals in need of adoption. If you are looking for a pet, please search through the posts to see pets who are looking for a home.

9)NO LOST AND FOUND PETS

There are specific Facebook groups for posting lost and found pets such as Winnipeg Lost Dog Alert Inc.; Winnipeg Missing and Found Cat Watch; and Winnipeg, MB - Lost Dogs, Cats & Pets.

10) BE KIND AND COURTEOUS

Let’s work together to create a safe and welcoming environment. Don’t use angry, sad or wow emojis. These can be misinterpreted as expressing anger, disappointment or shock at a members decision to rehome their pet. Don’t offer unsolicited advice. Rehoming a pet is a difficult decision that isn’t made lightly. Members who rehome through this group have already explored other options such as training and rescues. Most rescues are full and the majority do not accept owner surrenders. If we believe a rescue or shelter is a better option we discuss this with the owner before approving the post.
