I'm generally opposed to factory farming. The main reasons for this is that the animals are kept in unhealthy conditions, leading to overmedication, ending up with less than healthy meats for those who eat meats.

I'm also interested in letting local communities decide if they want to have factory farming in their area, and have a say in how it's done. Local communities have the most health to lose when the factory farm does not manage waste and smell and other health issues.

I will be writing to my Senators and Representatives.

I am now a GREAT aunt on the other side of our family. Leila is cute as a button!

Fun note: She was almost born on International Talk Like A Pirate Day. That's cool. My sister's and I were looking forward to being Dread Aunts (reference to Princess Bride). Then she was going to be born on the same date as the arrival of *our* daughter - what an awesome day, our Family Day. She did choose to be born a little earlier still, and everyone is fine. The new th*****me is tired, of course, and doing well.

Dog dementia can be handled. My previous dog would forget me as she walked through our small yard, and was often overjoyed when she found out I was with her (in her mind, again).

Perhaps this article will help a little. The same risk factors that are in humans apply to dogs, although, you know as well as I that not every elderly person or dog will have this problem.

It's so fun to hear followup from clients! K asked me if there was anything she could do to help her horse with stiffness. She wanted to know if it was the saddle, or her riding, or something else. The horse "showed" me that something was stuck in her withers (shoulders) area - something was physically in the way.

K came to me about a week later, saying that she had gotten body work done on the horse. K had passed the withers issue on to the person doing the work. After checking it out, the body worker found a lot of knots and tightness in the horse's fascia near her withers, and was able to massage and work that out. Now the horse can move its neck much more easily!

Some of the things I do for animals in my life include helping Velvet rehab. Hopefully she will get a good home with light use that keeps her moving, good foot balance to maintain, and regular body work - some of which can be done daily like in the video.
