Spent some time at a friend’s this weekend learning how to process rabbits. They’re definitely different than chickens, but very tasty! Surprised at how easy the process is!

Cleaning out the freezers to prep for getting the pigs back, so we roasted these lamb short ribs in the oven today with lots of fresh herbs. Made some awesome gyros!

It’s canning season! Got my first batch of tomato sauce done, 24 half pints and I only lost one jar to the floor 😉🤣🍅🥫

We took the bacon seeds to the processor yesterday 🐷❤️🐷 they did so well in the trailer, I was really surprised at how easy it was to load and unload them! We’ll get the meat back in about two weeks, then I can do my math report on cost 😉

We made a pig trailer! We needed a trailer to haul the boys to the butcher in two weeks, so we supplemented our utility trailer with some things to make it into a mobile pig port. Now we just have to train them to use it, we’re going to try feeding them in it over the next two weeks to make them more comfortable, hopefully it works! 🤞❤️🐷🐖
Got a chance to work in the bees today! ❤️🐝
We found our purple hive was dead, but the others are doing great and we were able to make two walk away splits from the blue and pink hives. Still hoping to expand our bees and get a lot of healthy hives going into winter this year 🤞❤️🐝🐝🐝
The plums on the fruit salad tree are going crazy! And we picked the first apple of the year 🍏 and the comfrey is growing like crazy, starting to cut it to use for mulch in the veggies ❤️🌱
Got the yard mowed again, had to get that crazy w**d in the Ayam pasture knocked back. Hopefully it’ll die back a little and let us put some cover crop down 🤞🌱
We’ve been off this week and got a couple of farm projects done! We got the big gate put up on the Ayam pasture, needed this for ages! Now we can pull the tractor and mower in here easily, and the trailer for moving the pigs next month 🤞❤️🐷

Got the cinder block bed w**ded and tended today, even found 5 cucumbers! 🥒
The w**ds were taking over, and the volunteer pepperoncini plants were so thick! Got all the w**ds out and thinned the peppers, hopefully they keep doing well 🤞❤️🥒🌶️

It’s berry time again! 🫐 The blueberries are finally ripening, and we got raspberries this year! Gonna be over run with those one day when all the plants start making berries 😁❤️🫐
The piggies are ginormous! Can’t believe how fast they’ve grown! 🐷❤️🐖 they’re almost ready for freezer camp next month, should be right at 300lbs 🤯

Finally got the tub filled up and the sweet potatoes planted 😅🍠 we have a big issue with voles so I’m hoping this plastic stock tank will keep the sweet potatoes safe from them 🤞 pretty nice not having to squat down to work on it either 😉
The rain made for a nice cool weekend, so we got some cooking done! 😋 lots of bread, the last of the lard from the freezer, and canned some taco beef for future burritos 🌯

We have a one year old Ayam Cemani rooster looking for his own flock of ladies 😉❤️🐓 him and Ted just do not get along, and he’s got some color leakage around his wattles so we won’t be using him in our breeding flock. Let us know if you’re interested in adding him to your flock 🐓❤️🐓
Well, we did not scare the hawk off. She was back again today targeting the egg flock 🙄🤦♀️

Finally got the pig pen fenced! Put the goats in there to help clear up the brush on the fence so we can run the electric wire along the bottom. Did you know that you you can’t crush an egg in a fist? It’s due to the physics of the shape of the shell, and has been a fun thing for most people!
