We planted some apple trees to give the hens some extra shade and treats. Now we know why this poor tree hasn’t grown……🙄🤣🐓
It’ll be good when the bantams come through their broody spell. Every nest I look at has an angry bird or two shouting ‘close the bloody door on your way out’ 😂
Would you believe it?!
Destiny, the chick with leg problems who was unable to stand easily, has got much stronger thanks to her physiotherapy. Thank you again to Tasha Daisy Shads for her amazing design of leg strengthening equipment (currently undergoing the process of trademarking) which has really helped. see photo in comments ) ❤️. She’s now head hen of a flock of 3 - you can see her giving Maple a peck!

It’s time for.. MONDAY MORNING MINDFULNESS!! 🙂🙏🧡
It’s time for….. MONDAY MORNING MINDFULNESS!! 🧡🙏
Hello everyone, here we are again, a new Monday and a new week. It’s been a busy time at Beesfield trying to get everything done in the shortening daylight hours. Last week was very cold and the water froze. Filling up all the huge number of hen water bowls took ages and made me grumpy…. until I saw a little flock enjoying the ice.
Hens love life and make the best of whatever is around them. It reminded me of ‘when life gives you a lemon make lemonade’.
So…. For this today’s mindfulness if you find yourself moaning or irritated at a situation see if there’s a way to turn it around - be more henlike.
Have a good week everyone and look after yourselves 🥰🐓xx
It’s time for…. MONDAY MORNING MINDFULNESS 🙂🧡🙏
Here we are again, the start of a new week. It was a very busy weekend here at Beesfield with the rescue and rehoming, but a good sort of busy.
One of the things I enjoy most about rehoming is meeting people who are giving the hens a forever home and knowing they are going to be loved so much. In the video you can see Erin with Bingo and how all of her attention is on feeding her new friend. Children are so good at getting totally absorbed in what they are doing and living in the moment.
So….for today’s mindful moment see if you can find something to totally lose yourself in. It can be anything, even normal everyday chores. Just approach it as if it were the first time you’d done it and give it your full attention. Notice if it felt any different from how you usually do.
Have a good week everyone and be kind to yourselves 🥰🧡🐓xx
Our broilers are now 6-7 weeks old and weigh around 3.5kg. Our egg laying hens weigh around 2kg, so already the broilers are way heavier. They look like adults yet are still chicks - you can hear Bee broiler cheaping in the video.
I knew very little about the chicken meat industry before getting these chooks. I am still shocked to learn that they are slaughtered as chicks. We found out that the batch that our chooks came from were slaughtered last week😞.
Peggy propelling herself towards the treats! She has to catch her breath before realising her friends are eating the sunflower hearts as quickly as possible 🙂
A lovely big tub of sunflower hearts and 3 sacks of mixed corn were delivered to our porch for the hens today 🥰. Thank you very much to the lovely person who made our day, we really do appreciate it 🧡xx
Peggy update 🧡
The ground is still wet and Peggy mustn’t get her bandage wet so we are back in the greenhouse. She’s having a bit of a ‘dust bath’ in the bit where I’ve dropped compost on the floor (I’ll make her a proper one tomorrow!) She’s also using the leg that has no foot, which is good as it means the stump is no longer sore.
Please don’t get your bandage dirty Peggy, we’re seeing the vet tomorrow 😳🧡!
Good news 🙂 - the vet was very pleased with how Peggy’s stump is healing. So another week of antibiotics and continuing with the daily bandaging until the next review.
In the meantime Peggy is having some ‘grape physiotherapy’ to help strengthen her good leg and practice balancing. Brave girl 🥰
