The reality of dog life when your dog senses somethings up and it alters their behaviour yet you still try to carry on as normal 😬
A car hit me on my motorbike Sunday
(thank you for all the well wishes!🤍) and since then this little guys been super concerned, not wanting to leave me alone, paying extra attention to my wounded areas and only resting fully when I’m resting.
He loves his big park walks and my dog walker too, nothing else has changed apart from my health.
Yet he takes himself to his daybed where he knows he’s left alone in hope that he can remain at home.
In other situations I’d of let him be. But there wasn’t another opportunity to go out after this one.
🤓Behaviour can change anytime and there can be so many variables that impact this and how the behaviours can build then affect areas you never saw your dog react certain ways in.
Personally I like to check their medical status first then their environment which can include us in that check.
So next time your dog is acting ‘unusual’ don’t forget to check you or your households current state / stressors/ health also🙂
✨He went to the park loved it and all was well!
Do you have a dog walker or helper who walks / interacts with your dog too?
⭐️ Something exciting coming 😀- Please share your answer below, select on instagram @pawsandflawsdogtraining or DM with your answer ⭐️🙏🏻
🐾 Training day at the shelter Lanta Animal Welfare! We dove into the transformative power of group walks for socialization, associations, and overall well-being adding some new structures and minor adjustments. It’s amazing to see how working together among dedicated staff enhances every step. ✨Remember, the journey begins the moment the leash is on and dogs are forever observing / learning. Grateful for this incredible team and their commitment to making a difference🌟Go team @lantaanimalwelfare 💪🏻 #ShelterTraining #TeamSpirit #Gratitude
Have you seen Dog Trancing? 🤔
Gobi (@aloogobi.lim) loves going into trancing modes. It’s the most fascinating behaviour I’ve ever seen, and we caught the end of it here! As an anxious dog, being relaxed enough to do this is a great win for him and his humans. It’s his first time doing it in this particular area 🥳 👏🏻
But what is it? 🤔
Dog trancing, also known as trance-like syndrome, ghost-walking, or weed-walking, is a behaviour where dogs appear to enter a trance-like state, walking very slowly, often under hanging or low objects like plants or curtains. It can seem strange and fascinating, but it’s usually harmless. During these episodes, dogs remain aware of their surroundings and return to normal once the trance is over.
There is no need to break them out of it.
🌟Why does dog trancing happen?
The exact reasons are unclear, but it typically occurs under low-hanging objects. It can be a learned behaviour in multi-dog households.
🌟 Is trancing a type of seizure?
No. Unlike seizures, trancing dogs can acknowledge stimulations and return to normal immediately after the episode. If you notice your dog trancing for the first time, consult a vet to rule out seizures.
🐕Does your dog go into trancing? If so when? And what do you do when they do?🐾

Time to work! And normalising dog trainers working together
Time to work 💪🏻🐾
Shoutout and a big thank you to @essentailspet @dangeruss90 for allowing me to work with @mooly_the_bully and family at his facility Essentials before the next stages.
#BETTERTOGETHER
🤍More trainers supporting dogs and their families together is what’s needed in this industry...
One cannot do all or offer all, plus there is not one fit for all either.
Different or not, we can all learn from eachother and....
It’s about the dogs, right?🙂🙌🏻
Great work team Mooly! 👏🏻

🧠Did you know dogs can smell our emotions / hormones and change their behaviour based on this?😮Yep!
⭐️Learn how your thoughts & emotions can play a part in the outcome of your dog’s behaviour amongst other factors, the relationship and the importance of self-care throughout.
🤔Experiencing feelings of guilt or frustration around your dog, or even within your household dynamics?
🤔Feeling like you aren’t doing enough or lacking confidence, maybe even sometimes resentment working with your dog?
You may say no to all the above and that’s great! However over the years these emotions listed above I am hearing in over 90% of the households that reach out for support, which can impact the human - dog relationship and also the training / learning journey.
✨Therefore on the back of @globalwellnessday_thailand workshop I am hosting a Live Webinar from Paws and Flaws Dog Training
Offering solutions, tools, resources & an open Q&A.
⭐️You will learn how your thoughts and emotions can impact your dog’s behaviour, the relationship you share, and the importance of prioritizing your well-being.
If you’d like the link to join the up and coming webinar this week (there are two date and time options) comment 👇
“Webinar” for the link. 🙂
Paws and Flaws Community Walk
This will be the last walk for May as I fly to Europe again tonight to visit my mother.
Wanted to share a thought of isolation and community...
It can be so isolating for some sometimes when working with your dog and also busy with your own work life which can equal to not having many around you in a similar situation that 'get it' ...
I believe in these safe, non judgmental community walks to create support, understanding, positive experience for the dogs and showing humans and their dogs that they are not alone.
Thank you all for your dedication, love and supporting your dogs and yourself dogs through tricky moments 🙏🏻✨

1 point to check in with when walking your dog 🦮
…Your body tension 🕺💃🏻
When you’ve had or still have a reactive dog it can be hard to not grip firmly and tense up preparing for battle each walk. 💯 understand, been there and it’s also very very common for people to do so.
There are a number of pointers, methods and techniques to go through depending on you, your dog and the why but for now and just a little pointer to check in with on the human side of this journey is … your body tension 🕵🏻 💪🏻
Holding tension in places isn’t good for us anyhow and most definitely isn’t giving off a great signal to your dog either who will pick up on micro changes physically, emotionally and hormonally from us which could lead to them feeling unsafe in our guidance or alert / tense before threats are even present.
So just a quick pointer check in with you physically, drop those shoulders, loosen those wrists and let go of that T-Rex bent arm as you walk with your dog 🙂 🦖
If you need additional help on managing your own tension with your dog or have any questions please DM or comment below “T-Rex” 👇
Happy Monday!
I am still out of the country but back this week with more updates soon ⭐️
Boisterous and lacking guidance
This dog had minimal guidance from his human, pulled intensely, reactive towards others, lots of pent up energy, very strong, nearly pulling her over plus mixed signals holding a treat up and then not getting it.
He is a boisterous, likely under-fulfilled young male who requires many of his dog specific needs to be met daily to avoid frustrations alongside his human building up her confidence working with him.
But for now if you’re in this situation as above 👆
Relax your body posture, drop your shoulders, keep your head up, breathe and smile (cheesy but it can help). Keep a good hold of the leash handle and loose the ‘T Rex tense arm’ 🦖😁
If you’re using food, keep the food behind you so you don’t accidentally end up bribing your dog, or the hand in the food pouch becomes the cue-marker with the next communication steps when you use them.
And refrain from holding food in front of your body if they are fixated initially unless there’s a training goal here 👆🏻
Fear, anxiety, traumas, triggers, negative moments and out of your control happenings are all points and emotions that can be difficult, cause self blame, self doubt, patience testing and frustrations.
Especially with constant comparisons out there and so many varied conflicting advice, methods, techniques and so on 🤯
For those whom may be able to relate to the above that I hear of daily amongst families too, you may also be able to relate to this video where all that doesn’t exist and it’s just simple moments of joy with your dog.
Perhaps your dog has overcome some of their fears recently, gained some wins and you’ve been able to keep them safe and fulfilled…
even be it a brief trip to the beach 🤍
This delightful boy Gizmo has been able to run on a beach without looking over his shoulder for the first time, swan in the sea (he was petrified before) and now a superstar passenger in the once scary car🌟
🔑Focusing on the micro wins to move forward is 🔑
🤍For those who doubt their pet care, handling skills and advocacy, you’ve got this 💪🏻 keep on going.
You’re probably doing the best with what you currently know and can do and if not, changes can start anytime, start now.
We all have points to improve on and that’s why you’re never alone on this behavioural journey and that’s what keeps it interesting 🤍🐾🐕

When we give choice, build relationship, listen and offer support… wonderful things can happen✨🥰🙌🏻
Extremely anxious, fearful and even scared of the wind (yes!) Thai rescue Miss Juno chooses her family member over the usual run and hide up the stairs when the wind blows or new people are present. No pressure or cue was given here 🤍🙌🏻
This duo are not only inspirational on many levels of strength, over coming difficult times, their relationship is now blossoming more each day and is a joy to see! ☺️
Small techniques and steps were taken to lead to this stage at the start of their journey so far based on building Juno’s trust, strengthening the bond to family members, taking things at her pace as well as her family’s pace and working with her emotional responses to things that trigger her/ that may be blocking her from building confidence.
——
Giving choice is just one part of the jigsaw 🧩 Some fearful dogs completely loose it under pressure/triggered and will not choose a choice that can help develop themselves or relationship to humans, they will choose their option based on instincts fight, flight and so on. All dependant on the individual, the human that will help the dog when I’m gone and situation.
🤍Essentially we have to teach them that they do have more than one choice aside from what their usual trauma response may be and what those choices are, why they will benefit them in that exact moment e.g if they are looking for safety we can offer them various safety options.
Junos human now represents safety, this is one new option for Juno🤍
Please note there is not one size fits all when applying techniques, what motivators to use (food, play, toys, verbal).
Juno & family - Well done ladies 🙌🏻💪🏻
Small steps on the journey so far and exploring down the path nicely 🥰

Meet Miss Dumbo from China, dog and child reactive, insecure girl gaining trust and confidence daily, now applying all she has learnt so far while in new environments. Along with the newfound knowledge of her human, has set her on a path to success.
So far it’s been a journey of trust-building, clearer communications, undoing past experiences that tainted Dumbo’s view of her relationship with human carer and the world around her.
The fundamentals have played a pivotal role:
✨ Loose Leash Work: Mastering the art of walking with ease, removing leash reactivity and leash popping and eliminating frustration on the leash
✨ Listening to Each Other: Understanding their language and cues. Communication is a two way street
✨ Guidance & Trust Building: Forging a bond built on play, needs met, confidence building, reliability and feeling more secure
✨ Confidence Building: Empowering Dumbo to choose the right choices
✨ Timing, Rest and Motivators: The keys to unlocking Dumbo’s potential working with her needs, drives, motivators and more rest
👏🏻Well done team Dumbo to the ongoing progress and the incredible bond forming between Dumbo and her human! Still some way to go but here’s to the next stages of the journey as we celebrate the wins and share with you all! 🐾❤️
