Pretty cool to see the Hunters gaining some traction overseas now ☺️ I have plenty of hunter-type horses on my books, it's just easier on their joints, especially for those horses that love to jump but have physical limitations. I love watching a good round with a relaxed horse.

While some may find it boring due to the lack of speed, I like seeing what everyone's form and style is over the course. Moving at the slower speeds also allows me to see better what I can do to help my clients further their careers and training; sometimes it's hard to pinpoint those things when they're moving at mach-ten over 4+ foot jumps, I've gotta video and slow it down 😆

Riding horses in the languid, American hunter style has long been dismissed by many speed-loving show jumpers. Now it may be catching on abroad.

For any of my Summit County clients who are not familiar with the truck that rolls through periodically, leaving a fog in it's wake. They frequently spray for mosquitos, which yes can be a nuisance but the unfortunate side effects of this spray can affect all animals and humans alike. It can harm honeybees going about their pollinating, too.

While I understand mosquitos suck, let's be honest, I don't believe this spraying outweighs the negative effects for everyone else around. My epileptic dog has had seizures when he has had to potty within a few hours of a spraying, and I've had migraines and nausea triggered by it. My property is only cared for organically, so the spraying of chemicals on it is not something I take lightly. Due to this, I opt out from spraying, which doesn't guarantee none of it will come in contact with my property but at least we don't get the brunt of it (when they remember to shut off the truck).

It has been such a busy month already, especially with so many more county fairs to go! I'll be doing my frequently asked questions posts in September instead as a result. My priority is always my clients first, social media is not exactly high on my list but it honestly seems you need to be engaged in all platforms these days 😅

But since I am posting, just a reminder that I do offer kinesiology taping as needed as part of my sessions. This has proven especially helpful at the moment with swelling triggered by the heat, as well as allergies. Available slots are a little thin at the moment but please reach out and I can try to accommodate you and your horse(s) as soon as possible ☺️

On days like we've had recently of this humid heat, I've been seeing and getting calls about more mysterious swelling and stocking up. There are a multitude of things this can be, and they can be manageable (depending on the severity and how quickly they were caught) with proper vet care and certain modalities applied at the right times in recovery. The most important thing is to stimulate and keep the lymphatic system moving while managing the pain.

I always tell these clients to get a vet diagnosis first, then we can work together to help manage the horse's recovery. This can be anything from: Chronic Progressive Lymphedema, Lymphangitis, Cellulitis, Stagnation Edema, etc. Getting the correct diagnosis and necessary medication(s) from the vet early on is vital in treatment and management of these mysterious swellings.

It's officially the dog days of summer 🥵 When booking your horse, don't forget that I also offer canine services as well. If I'm already out for your horse, feel free to add your dog on too! If you want them done in home, I just ask that it is within a 20 minute drive of your horse and scheduled same day.

If you are local to Twinsburg (within 20 minutes), then dog services are offered for $40, including all the same services and follow-ups as my equine clients receive. Book your dog today to keep them spry and active no matter their age 😉

Hope everyone is staying cool during this heat wave! Stay safe, drink plenty of water and offer fans when possible.

Tips to help your horse(s) beat this heat:

• Switch to night turnout for the time being
• Add electrolytes to a bucket of water for them; I offer 2 buckets of fresh water, one with electrolytes and one without
• Notice then sweating? Give them a cold hose down but don't squeegee it off!

Calvin and all the other retirees received nice cold baths today and yesterday to combat the heat. They also have the option of playing in the shallow creek too, which helps ☺️

I will be using today to catch up on my client notes from the past couple weeks and getting new ones scheduled out. I do apologize for the slight delay on some, as show season is definitely in swing and it is hard to keep up sometimes!
