The Ranchers & Riders 4-H Club team of 5 youth ages 12-15 are training a yearling wild mustang filly which was gathered from South Steens HMA (Burns, Oregon) on September 15, 2022. This mustang was picked up on June 24 (selection day) from the BLM Corrals in Boise to start her training. The youth team of trainers will be gentling and getting her ready for the mustang-only, in-hand Trail Challenge
competition on August 25 at the Western Idaho Fair. The Filly will then be on display at the Western Idaho Fair on August 25, 26, and 27. On Sunday, August 27, she will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Ranchers & Riders 4-H Club is participating in this program to raise money to help with scholarships to send our Senior Horse Bowl Team and Senior Hippology Team to compete at the National Horse Contests. This is a rather late post, but we would like to thank David Loos who bought our Ranchers & Riders 4-H BLM Mustangs Little Red at Idaho Horse Expo!
We would also like to give a shout out to Absolute Industrial and specifically, KJ Weissenbuehler, who gave EACH 4-H mustang a $300 add-on.
Both of your generosities will help send our horse teams to State Competition in Rigby in July. Thanks again!

The Idaho Horse Expo is April 5-7 at the Ford Idaho Horse Park. Stop by and say hi to Little Red and the other 4-H mustangs. She will be up for adoption on April 7th at 1:15pm with a starting bid of $125! You can get approved to adopt at the BLM booth prior to the auction.
This project is a fundraiser for Ranchers & Riders to help with expenses to send their Senior and Junior teams to the State Horse Bowl competition in Rigby We also have a drawing for a gift basket that you can enter with a donation. Thank you for your support!

Count down is on! The girls have been working with Little Red at the Ranchers & Riders 4-H Club's riding meetings. This week the lessons were on trail. Red is doin great at sidepassng!. She is a sweetheart for sure and is going to be at the 4-H Trail Challenge Saturday, March 30 at 10am at the BLM Corrals in Boise.

The girls have been working with Ranchers & Riders 4-H Club spring mustang, Red, even though the weather has been a little rainy. They worked on getting her to side pass, trotting, weaving between cones, and walking over poles. Red did AMAZING!

The Ranchers & Riders Trainers took their mustang, Little Red, to a TVPHA show. It was a great experience for her and the trainers in preparation of the Mustang Trail Challenge on March 30th.
This mustang, along with the other 4-H Spring Mustangs, are to be sold at the Idaho Horse Expo on Sunday, April 7th! Be sure and check them out at the Idaho Horse Expo, April 5-7.

Little Red made it to a Club riding meeting. She did really good with all of the strange horses. The 4-H trainers practiced patterns and showmanship.

These photos were from a while ago. With the bad weather and the flu bug that has been going around, the training has been slow going. The tag is off and she loves her scratches.
When the trainers were asked about Little Red, they replied she is very fiesty, independent, slow to start, but is really catching on to the domestic life.
The girls are taking it slow with all the mud. Safety is our top priority! Little Red has been eating out of their hands and enjoying some loves and scratches. This little filly is so curious! I, for one, can't wait for all of the mud to come off her so we can see the white on her legs.

Pickup day on Saturday was a GREAT day! After viewing the 9 geldings and 9 fillies from the Idaho Black Mountain and Hard Trigger HMAs that were gathered in September of 2023, the Ranchers & Riders team drew 1st pick! The team then chose a little sorrel filly from Hard Trigger HMA. When asked why they chose that particular yearling mustang, they claimed that "It had the best conformation".

This post is a bit late, but we wanted to thank everyone that followed us in our venture. With your help on this mustang fundraiser, we sent our Senior Horse Bowl Team to the National Horse Bowl contest to compete.
The Ranchers & Riders Horse Bowl team placed 7th out of 15 teams this month at the Eastern National 4-H Roundup in Louisville, Kentucky!
So proud of this team and its representation of Idaho!
Friday was a highlight with Ranchers & RIders' mustang filly, Peaches, receiving 1st place in the Mustang Trail Challenge!
Sunday was bittersweet as we ended our short time with her and she went home with her forever partner.
We will miss you Peaches!
