Hi everyone, we will try to schedule out first meeting. Although the goal is to have in-person meetings, zoom meetings will suffice for now.

The goal for this session will be to do some dental x-ray interpretation. I will provide some x-rays for collective interpretation, but would VERY MUCH encourage you to send some x-rays (preferably with photos) to [email protected] to use.

You are invited to a Zoom webinar.
When: May 9, 2022 07:00 PM Edmonton
Topic: Elevate Veterinary Dental Club

Hey everyone, I'm looking to establish a monthly meeting where we discuss veterinary dentistry topics and cases. My hope that the predominant content that we cover is people sending photos/x-rays of cases for discussion, and using that to dovetail into bigger themes (please send images to [email protected] with case details).

Though, it will take a while to get into this routine.

What topics would most people like to have covered. I have listed common topics for consideration:

- What makes up a COHAT (complete oral health assessment and treatment)
- Value of full mouth intraoral x-rays performed routinely
- Dental x-ray interpretation
- Dental x-ray technique
- Local nerve blocks
- Extraction techniques (general approach, tips, and tricks)
- Oronasal fistula repair
- Feline chronic gingivostomatitis management
- Malocclusion: predominately linguoverted mandibular canines, class 2 and class 3 malocclusions
- Oral tumors, steps to getting a diagnosis
- Trauma
- What is a root canal, indications, prognosis
- Extracting deciduous teeth
- Communication with owners, getting buy-in
- Steps to improving the quality of your dental program
- Advanced topics and cases of veterinary dentistry
- Utilization of CT in dental practice
- Anesthesia for dental procedures
- Odontogenic cysts
- Impacted teeth (why they are a problem, how to extract)
- Placing e-tubes
- The value and importance of post-extraction x-rays
- Instrumentation (suture, hand instruments, burs)
- Charting, four-handed dentistry
- Antibiotic usage in dentistry
- Oral and dental anatomy
- Pathophysiology of periodontal disease
- Pathophysiology of endodontic disease
- Gingival enlargements (discussion regarding gingival hyperplasia, peripheral odontogenic fibromas and the term "epulis")
- Journal rounds (review a newer article for discussion)
- Controversial topics in veterinary dentistry
- Chronic Ulcerative Paradental Stomatitis (CUPS) condition and treatment
- Chewing lesions (pyogenic granulomas)

I'm open to any other topics/suggestions. Some feedback would be appreciated.

Chris
