Allow me to introduce Snickers! This guy just wrapped up his Board and Train with us. After spending much time with his owners on their game plan for continued success. Snickers is officially graduated. He had a ton of s***k and drive for food. Training and teaching new behaviors was a breeze. Healing his aggression towards cars and people was a little trickier. Like usual, we focused on communication signals, the relationship and trust. Allow your dogs to make mistakes… they are informative if your doing your job. I’ll miss you Snickers. Little guy, big personality!

Bruce the Bernadoodle. Bruce came to us as a young puppy. It’s important to give young dogs the time they need. Allowing them to set the pace of their own education. This guy is coming along fantastically. He has learned how to play, basic commands, appropriate play with other dogs, multiple modes of walking and more… It has been a pleasure having him here. I wish they were all like Bruce.

Ok, this one just hit different! This is Finny the Mini Golden Retriever. When I first met Finn and her awesome owners… I found a nervy, insecure dog with a little bit of an edge. She had a hoop of challenges she brought to the table. As we began our process and built trust and a relationship. I began to see how sweet and loving this dog is. Little by little I earned her respect and trust. Eventually we shared a communication system. And I used it to help her learn a different version of the world. A version where she wasn’t responsible for everything she couldn’t understand. I listened to her, and guided her along. I gave her support and confidence where it was needed, while also having the ability to let her know when she made mistakes and got things wrong. The world became clear. ’sbiggestfan

The German Shepherd. Another beautiful Red and Black in the books. Alo came to us with severe reactivity and dog aggression. We took our time, established trust and a bond. Then we taught him how to play games to enrich him emotionally. The games helped us build a communication system. Then we hit the streets. With trust, a communication system, and motivation to play… we changed his world. Now it’s time to train his owners. This guy came in hot! Now he is leaving with a piece of our hearts. I’m gonna miss this guy. He taught me a lot.

The Maltese. Jacx came to us with a little bit of an edge. Small dog, big attitude. When a dog is small we tend to disregard their potential for danger or ability to injure. When these same traits are in a larger bodied dog, it is a true liability and dangerous. The power of the body magnifies the dogs intent. Big or small, we should be very quick to help these style of dogs heal.

The Rottweiler. This is Jinsa. She just finished an extensive 7 week training program with us at Gold Coast K-9 Inc. She learned how to have healthy interactions with other dogs, play games like Tug and Fetch. 6 basic obedience commands and two modes of walking. But most importantly, a clear communication system and play. These are the powerhouse skills. We are gonna miss you Jinsa. This dog is so incredibly sweet.

Layla the “Pit/mix”. This girl is soft and sweet. She is ridiculously built and has an overwhelming kind of energy at times. We spent most of her time here teaching her to play. On the back end, we sprinkled some work loads but mostly play and communications. It’s amazing what those ingredients can yield.

Milly just graduated today and went back home with her humans. This little girl is incredibly sweet. She learned many valuable skills while staying with us. Our goal is to give our clients the skills they need to build the life they want with and for their dogs. Every once in a while, there are dogs that go home and take a little piece of you with them. Happy your home Milly, sad that your gone.

The following is a daily video update we provide our clients while they entrust us with their dogs. This particular dog is Emmie. She came in a nervous but very sweet dog. She has reactivity issues with other dogs and is easily stressed by environmental stressors. Mostly, she is really sweet though. This is her 1 week mark. We have established communications, via a terminal marker (clicker). She is demonstrating conditioning to this marker which is awesome. We have fired these behavioral pathways enough to start to remove ourselves from the learning process. This is something that I find to be tremendously valuable. Getting out of the way!

Personally, I don’t care about any of these behaviors. I only love to see the dog learning, problem solving and finding it’s access point to objects of desire. Building perseverance. An active minded dog.

While learning these skills around food. What I consider classroom work. We are separately building skill sets of play. Probably the more important part of her time here. It took me a long time to find Ivan Balabanov’s content. And man has it changed things for me. Highly recommend.

Allow us to introduce Emmie! She is a sweet rescue with a big heart. Can’t wait to see her progress!

The following video is an update video that I provide for my human clients while there dogs are in on training programs. I video every training session and will update the clients daily so they can track their dogs progress. Here, Cooper is on day 9. He is learning various skill sets that we will eventually bring into our daily lifestyle/routine in our human-dog relationship.

All the various skills and behavior Cooper is learning here is rooted in a strong understanding of how to lure for food. Maintaining contact with the lure hand and driving energy into it. I’m repeatedly reminded in my practice to take steps back and focus on the fundamentals. It’s easy to reach for more to soon. In any discipline I have ever pursued, this lesson rings true. The first step towards great work with dogs is knowing when to take a step back before we move forward!
