💭 Has your furry friend ever had a hotspot? 🐶

👉 Hotspots are a common skin condition in dogs that can be painful and uncomfortable for your pet. It is red, wet, hot and angry areas of skin that can appear suddenly, usually in less than 36 hours. They are typically caused by a variety of factors, such as allergies, flea bites, or self-inflicted trauma. If your dog has a hotspot, here's what you can do:

- Trim the fur around the hotspot to allow light and air in, and also make cleaning easier.

- Work with your veterinarian to identify and address the underlying cause of the hotspot, whether it's an allergy or a flea infestation. They will then prescribe some treatment to clean and heal the area like a topical product to soothe the hotspot and promote healing. Depending on the situation antiseptic products such as DOUXO® S3 PYO Pads or purely soothing product sur as DOUXO® S3 CALM Pads may be used to relieve your pet.

- Allow healing: a buster collar might be prescribed to avoid licking and scratching when you are not around.

👉 Remember, hotspots can be very uncomfortable for your dog, so it's important to act fast and seek veterinary care if necessary. With proper care and attention, your furry friend can recover from a hotspot quickly and comfortably. 🐾

💭 Does your pet have pimples on their chin or muzzle? 🐶🐱
They may have acne! Yes, dogs and cats can get acne too, and it's more common than you think. Here are some things you should know:

👉 Acne in pets is usually caused by clogged hair follicles and glands on the skin, which can lead to inflammation and infection. Causes are not always clear. Some breeds are more prone to acne, such as Bulldogs, Boxers, and Persians.

👉 Symptoms of pet acne may include small bumps, blackheads, or pustules on their skin. They may also scratch or rub the affected area, causing more irritation and discomfort.

👉 To prevent and treat acne in pets, it's important to keep their skin clean and dry, avoid using harsh chemicals or products, and provide a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Remember, acne in pets is a treatable condition, but it's always best to consult with your veterinarian for proper identification of underlying cause and treatment. DOUXO® S3 SEB products (Shampoo, Mousse) can help equilibrate the skin and avoid microbial overgrowth. Your furry friend will thank you for taking good care of their skin! 🐾❤️

💭 Did you know that excessive grooming can be the sign of a skin problem or a behaviour issue? 🐱

Cats are fastidious groomers by nature, but excessive grooming can actually be a sign an underlying issue.

👉 When a cat grooms excessively, you can observe signs such as hair loss (alopecia), irritation in specific areas: belly, back, inner legs. In addition, compulsive grooming can be a cause of hairballs.

👉 Stress and anxiety are common causes of over-grooming in cats, as well as allergies, parasites, etc. It's important to monitor your cat's grooming habits and seek veterinary care if you notice any disturbances in your cat's grooming routine.

Is your dog scratching and itching more than usual ? It might be caused by seasonal allergies that come with springtime.

These allergies come from all the pollen, spores, grass seeds and dust that’s flying around during spring. As it can become uncomfortable for your pet, it is important to identify the signs of seasonal allergies and treat them properly. Among the symptoms you can look out for, you can find skin irritation (it can lead to chewing of the skin; rubbing against furniture, inflamed skin), hair loss as they will scratch and lick their skin way too much, red sores due to infections, ear infections, runny nose and watery eyes.

By giving a bath to your pet regularly, you can help them get rid of the pollen, dust, spores and seeds. DOUXO® S3 CALM products (Shampoo, Mousse, Pads) can help your pet soothing their inflamed and itchy skin.

💭 How to deal with pollen allergies in pets ?
As the time for spring is finally here, don’t forget that allergies not only affect us, but also our furry friends. 🐶🐱

👉 It doesn’t show through runny noses and swollen eyes just like us. Among the symptoms, we can find skin rash with red and inflamed skin, as well as itchiness that causes scratching, excessive licking and hair loss. These signs may be more severe among some, preventing them from playing or sleeping.

👉 Dogs are affected by pollen allergies seasonally. Spring, summer and fall are usually the time of year when it causes the most discomfort. Similarly to us, they can be allergic to certain types of pollen. If you notice any sign of allergy, don’t hesitate to take an appointment with your vet.

DOUXO® S3 CALM products (Shampoo, Mousse, Pads) can help soothe their itchy skin.

💭 Don’t know how to cut your pet’s nails at home? Trimming your dog’s nails is important for their health as it become painful when walking and can cause infections. 🐶

👉 Here are our few tips on how to trim them safely without having to go to the groomer :
- The first step is to make sure that you have everything within reach: dog treats, nail clippers, an extra pair of hands if needed.
- When ready to start, you can ease your dog into it by letting it sniff the tool. Then pick up a paw firmly but gently and isolate the nail to cut. To extend the nail away from the foot and make it easier for yourself, push your thumb slightly up and backwards on the pad, while pushing your forefinger forward.
- To avoid clipping the quick (the pink area that contains the blood vessels and could hurt your dog), don’t clip past the curve of the nail. Avoid cutting the pink part, focus on the skinnier part. For black nails, you can cut gradually. As soon as you can see a black part at the centre of the nail, stop cutting, otherwise you can make the nail bleed.

You’re done! Don’t forget to reward your pet with a tasty treat for their patience and courage. 💪 🐕

💭 Did you know that winter can dry out your pet’s nose?

Indeed, in winter, the temperature drops, wind is freezing and dehydrating. We tend to turn on our heaters, which results in low humidity inside the house. All these elements can dry skin on your pet's nose. Here are our tips to prevent your dog’s nose from getting dry during the winter:
🔵 Try to place your pet’s bed in a different area than your heater or fireplace. As they try to find a warm area, you can provide them a blanket for them to get warmer far from the warm air that heating vents produce.
🔵 By keeping the walks short, you can prevent your dog extremities from getting cold. They should be inside more than usual with the cold weather.
🔵 You can also use greasy substance to protect them from the winter.
🔵 Keep them hydrated with easy access to the water.

If it persists in spite of these recommendations, don't hesitate to discuss it with your vet. There are other reasons for your pet to get a cracked nose that can require medical attention 🐶

💭 Did you know that dogs could also feel under the weather in January ? 🐶🌧️

👉 It is commonly called January blues, a phenomenon that not only impacts humans but also their pets. It happens due to the cold weather, darker nights and marks the end of the festive season. It manifests in pets through chronic stress, obesity and loneliness.

👉 After the holidays, dogs could feel lonely as you start to go to work once again and resume your busy routines. They start sleeping more, could lose their appetite or, on the contrary, start eating too much considering the shorter walks.

👉 Pets should exercise enough as weight gain can become a health risk, so do not keep them indoors all day. Spend time with them on walks or sessions of playtime to stimulate them.

Pets rely on us to give them love and attention, don’t forget to hug your furry friend not just in January but all year round ! 🐶❤️

Cleaning your dog's ears helps to prevent buildup of wax and debris which can lead to an infected ear. Here is how to use DOUXO Auricular Lotion to keep your dog's ears clean...

1️⃣ Hold the ear flap up gently but firmly. Check the inside of the ear, if you find any redness, discharge, a strong smell, or if the ear is painful, stop here and book a vet appointment.
2️⃣ Insert the spout of the cleansing solution at the entry of the ear canal and squeeze. Your dog will try to shake their head. Maintain a firm grip on the ear flap to avoid shaking at this point.
3️⃣ Gently massage the base of the ear to help the solution spread through the canal and break up earwax and debris.
4️⃣ Now let them shake their head.
5️⃣ Use cotton wool wrapped around your finger to clean the excess product and remove debris from the ear canal and pinna. Do not use cotton wool buds for this!
6️⃣ Repeat on the other ear.

Christmas is just around the corner and we can't wait to start the celebrations. However, not everything at Christmas is pet friendly! Here are some things to look out for...

🎅 It can be loud, busy and chaotic over Christmas, your pet will appreciate a safe space where they can relax.

🍫 Christmas foods such as nuts, chocolate and dried fruit can be dangerous so make sure to check what is safe before you share your leftovers.

🎁 Curious pets might eat the wrappers from sweets, toys and decorations. Keep things out of reach.

🎄 Plants can be hazardous too, such as needles from Christmas trees, mistletoe, holly berries and lilies.
