Sorry we haven't had a online presence on this page in awhile, it's been quite the year, and we have honestly noted alot more traffic on our personal page Lucia Thiel . We really want people to start messaging through here, and we are going to get more strict about this with time. As while we help with Rehomed animals, and keep what is not able to thrive without alot of medical assistance. We do offer advice to prevent medical issues, or prolong more comfort to animals who are waiting to be seen by a proper vet facility. While I work in a animal clinic, I am a member of the Kennels team, and I help with assisting the technicians when I can... This does not mean I am a veterinarian, I can not prescribe, assist in prolonged care plans or provide medical information in terms of Measurements, over the counter medications or administration.

We are Trained in administration of medications to reptiles for our OWN reptiles, we are not permitted to train others without medical guidance " a vet" . While we want to help you so your animals can stay with you, instead of thinking your only option is to throw them out, or Expire them. We will only aid in basic care, advanced care of Geriatric reptiles. And any basic preventative care and palliative till YOU can get your pet to a vet.. Always have a Continued health plan with your local exotic Veterinarian. Even if your pet is healthy, their information now will help when they are not. To ensure the best course for your scaly family. Prevention is Paramount to the longevity and care of all reptiles.

People always ask how they can help, while we do donations and we do offer RARE rehomes to larger animals we can't keep... We need a transport here guys! If Justin can't make the treck I don't want to stretch anyone into something they don't wanna do...So we would like other options so he doesn't have to stress if it can't be done.

The location is in Chicago ,60647 to then pick up a tortoise, and meet us at Ultimate Countryside banquet center in 6200 joliet rd IL. Msg if you think you can do the treck, we can't tomorrow cus we will be doing the expo, i can't leave my guys there. And current Owner has no transport..

Tortoise is healthy and has been recently vetted, just came from a very poor situation,was rescued, and now they can't keep him. Please PM if possible, thank you!

If you can make the transport happen I am paying for your admission into Ultimate Reptile Show: Countryside, IL I'm also offering behind the table encounters with our gang and unlimited photo/video, gas funds from the trip and concession snax fund for your trip home. As well as honorable mentions and asking for a addy to give you a " Symbiotic animal alliance" pin and Tshirt when we do release them as a part of our team"

Long as weather holds and animals are out of shed/ not cranky, the group going to Ultimate is going to be Halloween based:

Major Motoko (large female ball python
Batou Buttetsu Year Finale ( VERY large male ball python
Shoogi Snugz(Albino African clawed frog
Tsu Tay for his Year Finale (GFP albino Axolotl
Crimson Echos (Red albino Pacman frog
Spunky Brewster( Leachianus gecko
David Bowie( Chahouha Gecko
Hiku Ghibli Year Finale (Leopard Gecko
Din's Fire year Finale ( Togo fire skink

Year Finale's are due to weather, amount of expos pr the year and breeding projects. Hens Alsip being vaati and Manas Finale expos , ones going dormant the other is starting to lay so officially on hold till I find a male and get two healthy eggs.

We will still provide care information and encounters, BUT this will also be a little more lighthearted and have myth's and legends related to the species not only in our culture but their own. You wouldn't believe how fire skinks became a emblem before the turn of the century in not only shaman magic but even todays witchcraft! 🙂

All animals have had swabs done with Fishhead LLC and we are Fungus " such as cytrid and CANV" and Nidovirus free along with Fecals which should be returning by the time of expo but Spunky and our new animal Torkoal is Negative in the most recent and we've been Negative in our other tests for over 2 years with 105 fecals. We will also have Physical inspections done tomorrow and it will ensure the health of them at the most up to date leading to Ultimate Reptile expo 🙂 So feel free to come, say hi and enjoy the experience.

NEG parasites, Neg Nidovirus, Neg bacterial, Neg fungal on amphibians, reptiles and physicals done. We don't sell but we do go to shows for animal encounters... If you sell and your going to a Expo, get your tests done, not only for the event but for your own animals. Some things like chytrid and nidovirus can be irreversible and heavily contagious. Your " it's just one ball python" is going to get touched by kids who then touch the cups and containers of other breeding vendors. And that one nidovirus strain can take down a whole genetic line of a serpent with a quality breeder. Be responsible not for you but for those around you. Responsible keeping isn't just feeding and watering, it's preventing the spread and stalling the risks your animal becomes the catalyst of a Pandemic.

We will be coming in strong with a final summer Themed Booth for 2022 at the Ultimate Reptile Show: Alsip, IL On September 25th. We do offer encounters and hands on interaction, information, Photo opportunities, free coloring pages, advice and so long as YOUR animal doesn't carry a contagion we do help with last chance relinquish. However we do Stress we are not a 501 souly because of the cost to be one currently being way overreaching and harming the actual preservation of reptiles in captivity. So we do NOT take profits and we also do not sell relinquished animals. If the animal is relinquished and we rehab and rehome. it will be to reliable individuals. All animals brought to expo are ambassadors of our cause and proof of past recovery. NOTHING is for sale at expo.
Thank you and hope to see you there!

Going tomorrow to the Ultimate reptile expo 🙂 If you can make it please do, we are comfortable in our job enough to ensure at least one of Maria Marinopoulos show a month if possible with few exceptions if all goes smoothly at this one. So you will see some long time favorites, some new, and have a good time for kids, adults and experienced keepers alike.

Been awhile since we made any posts but it's due to the post Covid lull, it's super quiet because some expos moved to far, some just didn't happen till recently, and starting a new job to pay for our animals care at a local Vet clinic, we've been mending the pieces to really start strong when we do get this running again. With fact sheets, free coloring pages at our booths, banners, additional species and special photo opportunities and celebrity meet and greets with spunky, Major noodle, Hiku and turbo!
Our newest out of town encounter and safe place drop off, event for adults and kids alike with various opportunities for encounters of all ages. Will be at the Ultimate Reptile Show: Countryside, IL on Saturday 8/27.

Please Vote for who you would like to see from our group, new and old to join the event!

And if your not a part of our personal facebook to see every member, we always want to educate on the popular and more unique species, outside of sulcata tortoises, crocodilians, Large snakes, monitors and larger agamas. Feel free to shout out your fav species and if we don't have it now, we will be on the lookout if enough interest in that species shows up for expo votes!
Only through Education on their care, their culture and their future in domestic care and handling through encountering the reptile with your own hands and seeing them personally to find their not so scary . Will the species that started the world we know, really get preservation regardless of what the future holds. Domestication is one streamline path hand in hand with preservation.

This ban is effecting other states greatly, thats why many educators are making facilities, like clints reptiles. And Snake discovery " emily"

We know many don't care about this bill.. But you see we voluntarily suspend animal education booths with Turbo and the group in the winter because it's to dangerous to transport them in this weather...

Imagine being forcefully suspended year round... 95% of our education with Turbo the american snapping turtle, Spunky the leachianus, Major the ball python, Zilla the white tree frog, Glenn the pacman frog, Sheikan the axolotl, Phalaynx the super salamander, Kratos The tomato frog, Fearless the crested gecko, Charmeleon the Leopard gecko, Fish the african clawed frog and many more ...

Please, if you live in illinois, or believe in animal education.. They do not have room in illinois for a proper facility to keep these species in top condition, we are not the only educators who come from other states with our animals to help teach you about respect of native and non-native preservation and if you wish to take it on. the domestic conservation of the species...

This passes and it will likely pass in nearby states as well. So anyone outside of the state listed, this is something you can send a message on! you can stand with illinois. Because if you don't. not only does it hurt your traveling education with animals in the top of health and care for their species.. This will soon be your own back yard... We cannot let this pass..

If you have ever seen turbo and the Booth " symbiotic animal alliance" at expo, they are making it against the law if this bill passes.

STOP IT . You've seen these animals and their health, you've obtained even your own " zilla" and " Glenn" and now had them for 2-3 years under care we taught you... This is effecting the very people who showed you animals are worth protecting.

UPDATE 3/24/21: Thank you to everyone who opposed this bill! HB3889 has received a motion to table! Essentially, this will be the end for this bill as the sponsor is pulling it from consideration (i.e. no hearings and it will die) under Rule 60(b) that allows the Principal Sponsor of a bill to table his/her bill at any time.

The details on the bill are still at https://usark.org/2021-il/.

Peta and HSUS and ASPCA are all the same company under seperate names just so they can blindside people with adds, gain money, Kill animals, and you WILLINGLY let them do it!
But they should control your rights? no the government does. Who pays them and makes these bills and brings it to them?
HSUS!!!

Again Peta, HSUS and ASPCA are the same company... Like Purina is Friskies, is Fancy feast is Core diets.

Government " politicians" Are taking bills fed by HSUS and related "Subcompanies" because if they take bills. Peta, HSUS and ASPCA will TAX THEIR FUNDS TO PAY THEM to make them pass these bills...

Again, BANS WONT FIX IT... it's a blindfold people. WAKE UP

Hell a little over a month ago a HSUS busted into a Ball python breeding facility due to sadly the smell of the p**p. Nobody agrees the animals should live in their own s**t... BUT

30 Rats and mice found new homes. 520 where put down.
82 ball pythons?

you guessed it!
🐍🔨☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️
Three weeks after the swipe people confronted them about rescuing the snakes and due to " Tagging" they where warranted as unsafe to release back to captive population care 🙂

Mind you Ball pythons in extreme stress will tag out of defense, they often don't even strike" called a bluff tag" and when they do it rarely breaks the skin. They are not venomous and in very rare cases their bite can lead to infection if it's instigated due to smelling of rats and mice. In which cases however, it's alot less rare then a infection which CAN be caused by a dog licking you.. How many own dogs and get licked? Ever die from the skin infection that occurs. Thats how rare it is..

These are the uneducated, money hungry power hungry delinquents telling your government what you should and should not have a right to... Feel attacked yet? so do we. DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

Even if you don't like these species, if your a Crested gecko owner, or a snake owner, or a hamster, a cat, a dog, a fish owner...
Keeping animals is not a risk to anyone , there are way less illnesses spread by reptiles and way less people hurt by reptiles. Then ANY other animal in captivity!!!
These laws need to stop, banning one reptile or making people "insure" their reptiles, means they could go the same way as the pitbull in 90% of the US... This is not ok!!! Reptiles will over survive in the future if we live with the ability to captive rear these animals..
BRAZIL AND THE RAINFORESTS got LEGALLY burned by their GOVERNMENT to kill indigenous people and take the land of the native animals already in danger.... NOBODY stopped him!!!
WE CAN STOP THIS!!!

Sign, Donate and do everything you can! this ban will go in place if we don't change it TOMORROW. And it's the end of all animals in captive care, its just hitting the tip iceberg! They pass this, THIS WORLD IS OVER

Let’s get to 224 signatures by the end of today - can you add yours?

ALERT: South Carolina tegu ban

UPDATE 2/18/21: The SCDNR Board just voted in favor of the tegu ban at their Board meeting. This new regulation must still go through the legislature before it would be effective. We will have more details when available.

UPDATE 2/4/21: The public hearing on this matter just ended. The SCDNR Board will continue the discussion at its Feb. 18 meeting. Comments can be submitted until Thursday, February 11, 2021 at 5:00 pm to the email address [email protected], and those will be included in the record.

Read the alert below or at https://usark.org/2021-sc-tegu/.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) has proposed a ban on the Argentine black and white tegu. This species would be listed as Restricted Nonnative Wildlife. The regulation will include restrictions on possession, sale, offer for sale, transfer of possession, import, release, reproduction, and escape of designated species and associated permitting.

Specifically, the listing will:

1. Create restrictions for black and white tegus.
2. Allows the Department to issue permits.
3. Establish a registration period for current owners (grandfather period).
4. Require tegus to be microchipped (PIT-tagged).
5. Establish permit rules.
6. Prohibit reproduction of this species.
7. Establish caging criteria.
8. Require reporting of escapes and missing tegus.
9. States permits are void upon the death of registered tegus (no additional tegus can be kept after current, permitted animal(s) die.
10. Ban the in-state sale of tegus.

Written comments may be directed to the Board at [email protected] no later than February 11 at 5:00 EST.

Read the SCDNR proposal at https://usark.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/SC-tegu-ban-2021.pdf.

The proposed regulation text is on our website athttps://usark.org/wp-content/uploads/2021/01/SC-tegu-ban-2021.pdf (scroll to bottom).

Talking Points
These can be used in your comments. Please edit and personalize.

1. If SCDNR must regulate tegus, there must be a common-sense approach allowing responsible keepers and breeders continued trade activities.

2. Reptile enthusiasts want to protect our State's environment and work with SCDNR on non-native species issues.

3. Tegus can be bred in South Carolina while still protecting the State's environment.

4. Responsible h**petoculturists can certainly keep this species without harming South Carolina's wildlife and environment.

5.Irresponsible persons should be punished but a ban that does not consider current tegu breeders is overreaching and unjust.

6. Responsible h**petoculturists want to address problems but SCDNR should realize that we responsible keepers are not the problem and attention should be focused on any bad actors who are causing the problems within our state.

7. A ban without common-sense exceptions and permits will create additional issues, such as creating an underground black market or causing additional releases.

Sample Letter

SCDNR Board,

I write today as a South Carolina resident opposing the proposed ban listing the species Salvator merianae, known as tegus, as a Restricted Nonnative Wildlife species under Chapter 123 of SCDNR Code. Let me be clear, I fully support protecting our South Carolina natural resources and wildlife. This can easily be accomplished through sensible regulation. Unfortunately, I do not feel this is a sensible proposal. There is currently no evidence of tegus breeding or surviving the climate long-term in this state. As a responsible reptile keeper, I am for regulations that make sense and protect our environment without jeopardizing our ownership rights as citizens of this state.

Responsible h**petoculturists have never been the problem in this state. Through PIT tagging and permitting you have created more responsibility and liability on the owner of the animal. Therefore, there is no reason to stop the ownership, trade, and commercialization of this species. If an animal is released or has escaped, you now have an individual on record to hold responsible and penalize. This will hold the negligent owners accountable without punishing the responsible ones. But unfortunately, under this current proposal, all owners are punished. This ban will cause more harm than good. For example, some will sell them illegally, which as a result, fuels a black-market underground trade.

Ultimately, it is not fair to completely end the trade of a species when there is an obvious solution. PIT tagging and permitting, while still allowing the trade of this animal, would fix the potential problem. Tegus are easily trapped so the odd escape or release, which will be curtailed or ended through common-sense ownership and sales regulation, does not pose a severe risk to our native fauna.

As the last point, while the current proposed language does consider those people currently keeping pet tegus and allows those animals to be grandfathered, it does nothing to consider current breeders and businesses. A business will have extensive losses if this passes without additional language. Since the new regulation provides for no restitution to businesses that will have substantial financial loss, I do not see how SCDNR can present this regulation without their consideration. Allowing a period for the sell-off of adult animals as their only option is not acceptable. Current businesses and breeders, which is only a small handful in our state, that can demonstrate their ability to prevent escape should be allowed to be grandfathered, also. If not, this is a rather unjust and unfair regulation.

I understand regulations and standards need to be put in place, but an overnight ban on trade is completely unjust. I am asking you to work with us responsible h**petoculturists to come up with a better solution to this proposed regulation. We are willing to work with you and make sensible regulations. Thank you for taking the time to read this email and I look forward to speaking with you further. Have a good day.

Thank you,

YOUR NAME

Bioactive Must-Haves 🍂 Let's break it down!

🍂 False Bottom - A natural product, made from heated clay. It retains moisture, provides lots of surface area for bacteria and plant roots to grow, and wicks water, which will help maintain humidity in a vivarium.
🍂 Substrate Barrier - Ensures that no ABG Mix falls down into the false bottom, disrupting water flow.
🍂 ABG - A precise mixture of charcoal, milled sphagnum moss, fir bark, tree fern, and peat! The mixture creates the perfect balance between retaining moisture and proper drainage; it can last for several years if used properly.
🍂 Sphagnum Moss - Used to prevent the soil from washing down into the drainage layer.
🍂 Leaf Litter - Provides visual barriers and hides for the vivarium inhabitants. It also gradually breaks down, adding nutrients to the substrate, and sustaining healthy populations of microfauna, such as Springtails and Isopods.

How many of you have bioactive enclosures?

These bills on animals just because of peoples fears of them will cause MORE invasive then just using other means.. And 90% of the time it isn't even a invasive fear, it's human endangerment fears.. and no reptile in the right hands is a legitimate enough danger to anybody for these to be necessary . act now, help keep animals in the wild and in preservation..because the way the worlds going. the wild won't always be there, the least we can do is care for them domestically, and there is more dangers NOT doing it, then just learn about them and doing it properly.

ALERT: Oregon
Read below or at https://usark.org/alert-or-2021/

Oregon House Bill 3008 (HB3008) has been introduced by Representative Nosse. HB3008 prohibits using certain animals (list below and even includes tortoises and small monitors) in "traveling animal acts," which will include the educational outreach programs provided by many animal keepers. It authorizes forfeiture of animals used in violations. Punishment is a maximum of six months' imprisonment, a $2,500 fine, or both. HB3008 awaits committee assignment and we will add that information for sending opposition when assigned.

Regardless of what species are involved, this bill is unnecessary, redundant, and a waste of Oregon tax dollars. Animal welfare laws are already in place and measures like this bill only punish responsible citizens instead of actually penalizing criminals.

The unintended consequences are many. It is a ban on taking a Greek tortoise into a classroom for an educational program about turtles and tortoises. It is a ban on taking a dwarf monitor lizard into a library or to a Scout troop meeting for an educational show discussing reptiles.

The bill is straightforward and simply states, "A person may not use an animal described in subsection (3) of this section in a traveling animal act." That means any species below cannot be transported in any manner for any type of presentation. Essentially, animals could only leave your home for veterinary visits.

“Traveling animal act” means a performance of an animal to which the animal is transported to perform. This qualifies all outreach and educational programs that are not on-site where the animal is permanently housed. They would all be banned.

The only exemptions are facilities with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), the World Association of Zoos, Aquariums (WAZA), or the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries (GFAS), state-licensed wildlife rehabilitation centers, certain academic/medical/research facilities, veterinarians, and licensed falconers.

Please note that “education programs” are only exempt if you qualify with an entity included in the above exemption list. Also, while this a definition for "performance" that may seem to disqualify general educational outreach programs, there still remains much ambiguity and enforcement could certainly take place upon an unexempted person conducting a program.

Species included in the bill:

(a) Any member of the family Canidae, except the species Canis familiaris (domestic dog);
(b) Any member of the family Cetartiodactyla, except the species Bison bison (American
bison), Bos ta**us (domestic cow), Lama glama (domestic llama), Ovis aries (sheep), Rangifer
tarandus (reindeer) and Sus domesticus (domestic pig), and the subspecies Capra aegagrus
hircus (domestic goat);
(c) Any member of the order Crocodylia;
(d) Any member of the subclass Elasmobranchii;
(e) Any member of the family Elephantidae;
(f) Any member of the family Felidae, except the species Felis catus (domestic cat);
(g) Any member of the family Hyaenidae;
(h) Any member of the mammalian infraclass Marsupialia;
(i) Any member of the family Mustelidae, except the subspecies Mustela putorius furo
(domestic ferret);
(j) Any nonhuman primate;
(k) Any member of the order Perissodactyla, except the subspecies Equus ferus caballus
(domestic horse), the subspecies Equus africanus asinus (donkey), a pony and a mule;
(L) A member of the clade Pinnipedia;
(m) A member of the family Procyonidae;
( n) A member of the group ratite;
(o) A member of the family Spheniscidae;
(p) A member of the family Testudinidae;
(q) A member of the family Ursidae;
(r) A member of the family Varanidae;
(s) A member of the family Viverridae; and
(t) A member of the clade Xenarthra.

Subject line:
NO to HB3008

Representative Nosse,

As a dedicated advocate for animal welfare, I implore you to pull House Bill 3008 from consideration. Oregon already has extensive animal cruelty and welfare laws including ORS Chapter 167. Enforce those current laws! HB3008 is yet another superfluous law that will not accomplish its stated purpose and is nothing more than a solution looking for a problem.

It seems HB3008 lacks research. For example, the bill would ban educational programs including any tortoise or monitor lizard. For both of these, some species weigh less than a pound as adults. Programs with the larger tortoises and monitor lizards provide education as to why certain species are not good pet choices for some people and families.

The fact is that this legislation is unnecessary. Punish the "bad actors" and the criminals. No new law is needed to protect animals as Oregon can already prosecute animal abusers.

Superfluous and redundant laws are becoming commonplace. Tax dollars and legislative resources are continually being wasted to propose duplicative laws. Even worse, collective punishment is becoming an accepted practice in our government. Instead of focusing on criminals, many new laws choose to punish good citizens.

Among other overreaching measures, this bill bans many educational outreach programs before students and Scout troops, classifying such beneficial programs as inherently cruel. Those who would travel with their animals to teach school children about tortoises or certain lizards will be made into criminals!

This bill is far-reaching and rife with unintended consequences, including making criminals out of those dedicated individuals who responsibly conduct educational programs with animals. Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter. Please realize that HB3008 is illogical and unjust. Have a good day.

Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
