CALL FOR DONATION
Since February 2023, we have lost more than 15 dogs across our IIT-Kharagpur campus to Canine Distemper and Parvo. Some succumbed after prolonged treatment while few others could not be attended to on time. As a wake-up call, we looked for best deals on the DHPPi vaccine available in the region. We could secure them for INR 230 per vaccine. We have received the first batch of vaccines and SNVH, Academic Area, MMM, MT, etc have been covered while other areas are being covered every evening. We have over 100 dogs in our list already and have to vaccinate every additional dog found inside campus. In addition to vaccine, all dogs are necessarily being administered with liver tonic and then dewormed. Then there are 16 dogs in MMM who are on meds for preliminary-mild symptoms of CD. Momma doggy of SupDup is paralysed from CD and under active treatment through IV. One dog at SNVH will be put on chemo soon as well.
All of it is made possible through donations received from members of the campus community. To continue our efforts to vaccinate, feed, treat and care for our animals, we have to raise more money. Hence, the call for donations via this medium, with the hope to reach out to more persons.
Any amount you would like to donate can be sent via GPay to 9435510628. This account belongs to one of our student members and is being managed by 3 of us. Receipt and expenditure are updated in a MS-Excel sheet everyday and is shared weekly.

Love, compassion and fur-filled fun! Animal Welfare, IIT Kgp, organized an unforgettable event on 14th March, bringing together animal lovers from all over KGP campus. The Human-Animal Relationship Awareness Initiative was a grand celebration of the bond between humans and domestic animals, highlighting the emotional, psychological and physical interactions that have existed for thousands of years.

Our lovely furry friends Kuku, Shibu, Coco, Bruno, Hancock, Simba and Choco, the stars of the evening, stole our hearts with their adorable poses during the photoshoot. The event featured a wide range of activities, from poster presentations on ongoing sterilization and vaccination drives for stray animals to panel discussions on adopting strays. Our guests of honor, including Prof. Koel Chowdhury (Associate Dean SA), Prof. Sudheshna Koley, Mrs. Mitali Banerjee, and Dr. Prasanta Kumar Sannigrahi (Head of B.C.Roy Technology Hospital) graced the occasion with their presence and shared their invaluable insights and words of love, kindness and affection for stray animals.

The enthusiastic youths of the Animal Welfare Group made the whole event a grand success, spreading a bag of happiness to all the participants. Thanks a lot to Click Kgp and everyone who helped for capturing all these beautiful moments and making them last forever. Dear all, two friends of our animal welfare community found 3 abandoned kittens. They both are fostering them at the moment. But with so many dogs in the campus, it is very difficult to keep them safe. If you know anyone who will be able to help the kittens and adopt them, please let us know. Even if there is any safe place where they can be relocated and fed, it will be really helpful. In case you don't,kindly spread the word. These kittens are in urgent need for adoption.

Hope you all are doing well in these testing times. The second wave of COVID-19 has hit us hard precisely at the time when we were hoping for the nightmare to finally conclude.

As many of you might be aware, Animal Welfare Group, formed by some animal loving faculties ,their families , staff members and students from our campus, is actively feeding campus stray animals tirelessly from 21st June , 2020. It has been a humongous effort by every member of the team to bring a smile to the faces of our voiceless friends out there. We are extremely grateful to our members who helped us continuously for the last 10 months with every kind of support we needed.
Right now, we are facing a huge shortage of fund as we are forcefully extending this project beyond the timeline we expected. Currently the program requires INR 3000 per day to feed all the campus strays two times a day. A small contribution from your end can mean a lot to us.

Hello everyone,

This is an urgent communication about our furry friends on campus. We have been trying and feeding them from 21st June, 2020. It has been great journey altogether, watching them wag their tails when the feeding van reached them made our day beautiful. It was the excellent support that we got from the community , that helped us help our best friends in campus.
But now we are completely running out of funds. We need your help to feed them , they are waiting for food everyday at noon. The lockdown in campus has made them completely dependent on us.
We would like to thank Dr. Seema Singh for taking care of the dinner of our friends. Now we are able to feed them twice in a day.
Please help us by sharing this among your peers and please donate as much as you can.

Henlo hoomans,

When we heard our hoomans are leaving the campus due to lockdown ,we got scared because there would be no food and no one to play with us or to take care of us but you all made our fear go away by donating to Project Annapoorna. The awesome faculty and staff members , their friends and family, our student friends are taking great care of us. We are getting yummy food now but we heard that our friends are running out of money real fast. We are totally dependent on your donation for our food .Please donate as much as you can and don't worry about your hostel rooms, we will be guarding them in your absence. Friends we are already missing you in campus hope you return soon so we could have fun together.

As a consequence of the evacuation of students from the IIT Kharagpur campus following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak, Animal Welfare Group (AWG), IIT Kharagpur, with the help of the animal lover faculty members and campus residents initiated the campus stray animals feeding program to feed the 200+ dogs and cats residing in our campus.
The objective of the feeding program is to ensure a one-time full meal to animals every day. In order to make this happen, we procure 37 kg of cooked chicken (+ egg) rice from the Heritage restaurant and a dedicated team of animal lovers ensures that all the animals in 24 halls of residence, gymkhana, and three academic zones (central zone, Takshashila and Law School and Tetultala) of our campus are being fed daily.
The costs are covered by the generous contribution from the faculty and staff members and their family, friends, students, alumni members, and funds raised from AWG’s official Milaap fundraiser, dedicated to this project. Till now a total of 284,000 rupees has been spent on the project.
The feeding program started on the 20th of June, 2020 and we have managed to cover the expenses incurred in two phases, till August, 2020. The total expenses in the first phase (June 20 to 2020 to July 20, 2020) of the project were Rs. 116,000 and in the second phase (July 21, 2020, to August 20, 2020) was Rs. 114,000.
The expenses for the third phase (August 21, 2020, to September 20, 2020) sum up to Rs. 110,000 and we have been able to pay Rs. 54000 to date (13th September 2020) and still facing a deficit of approx. Rs. 31000 for the third phase alone. It is expected that campus will be closed for students at least until the end of this calendar year, and our feeding project is to be continued in three more phases in order to prevent our campus stray animals from starving to death. This is possible only and only through your generous contribution and support like you have supported us to date.
Please use the following link to our official fundraiser (Milaap) in order to contribute to the campus stray animals feeding program run by the AWG, IIT Kharagpur.

Hello everyone,

The feeding program is going on beautifully with the Allmighty's grace and your well wishes. Till now we have completed two months and the feeding for third month is underway. This month we have faced a lot of problems like increasing covid infections in our campus but our administration gave us special permission to carry out feeding operations with necessary measures taken to minimize chance of infection.
Till now our core members have been our pillar of strength during the hard times. Now we have serious scarcity of funds going on. So we humbly request you to come forward and donate generously through our fundraiser platform in Milaap. You will be happy to know that Milaap has lifted their platform fees on our fundraiser. Please support us to further carry out our feeding program till situation normalises.

The cost of the project is almost 1.2 lakh per month and already around 2.5 lakh is spent. The feeding is still going on with 40 kgs of delicious Rice, chicken and egg mixture outsourced from Heritage restaurant. The feeding team ensures all the four legged friends from 21 halls of residence, gymkhana, hospital, takshashila, tech market and dreamland area are well fed everyday. You will be happy to know that despite the adverse weather and spread of infection the feeding team is doing their job relentlessly with necessary health and hygiene precautions.

Almost 25 days have passed since the campus has been evacuated after the end of academic session. It was the fruit of tireless efforts of a wonderful team consisting of animal loving faculty members, residents, students, distributors and Heritage that the animals in our campus didn't go to bed unfed a single night since that.

The group also thanks each and every well wishers, without whose wishes the whole dream wouldn't have been possible.

Still we have a long way to go to ensure that these helpless animals do not lose hope on us.

Please contribute to sustain this project though the links in the comment section and spread the word with your peers.

Here are some pics of our happy dogs and cats who are thanking you all for your support.

09/07/2020

Hello Everyone,
As we all know, Covid-19 pandemic followed by national lockdown and untimely closure of our IIT campus has devastated the lives of our four-legged friends. Recently, the entire campus was evacuated, all messes were closed and only a handful of students are still on campus now. This has further worsened the condition of our campus stray dogs and cats, as the ONLY option for their food- the leftovers of mess food is no more available to them.
But we were determined to help our dearest stray friends. We could not just let them die in thirst and hunger. With the unconditional love and support from our Animal Welfare Team, we reached out to some of the animal lover faculty members of our institute. This led to the formation of a strong core team of over 12 animal lover faculty members, staff and their families who came forward to help us feed the campus stray animals. It was a dream-come-true situation for every animal lover of our institute.
We are happy o share that a very dedicated team of campus residents of IIT Kharagpur have initiated a dream project of feeding the campus strays. About 35 kg of chicken rice is outsourced from the Heritage restaurant and over 200 dogs and cats in the 21 halls of residences, gymkhana, tech market, dreamland/ sahara and academic zone are being fed tummy-full every day. There can be no reason bigger than this for an animal lover to feel happy, content and satisfied.
The entire project costs about 1.35 lakhs to cook the food, and distribute across the campus. Currently, this is kick-started by our beloved faculty members, each one of them have promised to commit for a regular donation of certain amount of money. Not just that, they are also reaching out to their friends and colleagues for donations and striving very hard to keep this project going. We are trying our best to reach out to all the animal lovers to make up for the shortage.
There is a high chance that the campus will be closed for students till the end of December 2020, and in that case, we desperately need to continue feeding the campus strays for at least six months more!! Without a stable source of funds, this is impossible to sustain the feeding project and we are afraid that it might stop by the end of this very month.
The campus strays are our friends- our family- who ate, played and slept with us, showered us with their unconditional love and attachment, the poor ones, whom we helplessly left behind due to unprecedented conditions. And now, if we don’t come forward to help our four-legged friends survive, they will only die of hunger.
But we will do everything to keep this project going.
We are also happy to share that a part of this money will be paid to the distribution team, who tirelessly feed in all the 21 halls of residences and market areas with a smiling face. They are all daily wagers and temporary staff of the institute, whose primary source of income is now stopped due to closure of the campus. So, by contributing to the stray animal feeding project, we are also helping in creating the employment opportunity for the Covid victims of our institute.
Thus it is a humble appeal to the everyone to kindly donate and help us serve our four-legged friends, one full meal a day.

Yours Sincerely,
Animal Welfare Team

Hello everyone!!

It has been a long time since our last post regarding the help that Angel required and we have been unable to provide any updates on her situation since then. This was due to the reason that the animal loving students staying back on campus were busy with the task of feeding the dogs and cats who have been left helpless and hungry after the evacuation of halls on 20th June.

However Angel is doing fine for the time being and her health has recovered quite a bit.

We were able to meet our fundraising goal from the donations provided by our wonderful friends with beautiful souls. With the rapid response to our plea for help, we managed to take Angel to the vet clinic where the doctor prescribed a combination of medicines for the duration of a week and Chemotherapy Injections that were to be administered weekly for a period of 8 weeks.

She completed her medicine dosage with help of her human friends and is waiting for the chemotherapy to start.

As the campus has been vacated now and very few of us have been able to stay back to help these innocent souls, it has become practically impossible for us to give her the required chemo shots every week while she is in the campus. It has also been seen that she is very fearful of humans and to add to that we also have a tremendous lack of manpower on our side which is why it has become incredibly difficult for us to feed and take good care of her while she's staying in the campus.

We are going to transfer her to an animal shelter in Kolkata by this week where they'll provide her with the required medication and feed her properly also.

Stay tuned to this page for more updates on the lovely soul Angel.

Help us save Angel and other animals that have made the campus of IIT- Kharagpur their home.

Angel, a sweet stray dog is diagnosed with the painful, Transmissible Veneral Tumour (TVT), which causes great pain and discomfort along with troubled bowel movements. This has forced the poor animal to stop eating. Further, her extreme fear for humans and other dogs has made matters further worse and she is beginning to give up on life.

She requires immediate medical care without which we won't be able to save her.

Angel’s boarding and medical expenses would cost us around ₹ 20,000.

Likewise, there are about a hundred dogs and fifty cats that inhabit the IIT Kharagpur campus and their condition is not very good as well. Most of these strays are either malnourished or injured and require regular feeding, medical attention and vaccination. The nationwide lockdown has further added to their troubles, with no regular access to food and water.

The feeding, medicine and annual vaccination of the campus strays would cost about ₹ 30,000.

You can help angel and other helpless strays through your generous contributions.

We, the members of tbe Animal Welfare Group, IIT Kharagpur humbly request you to donate generously for this cause and share this message among your friends/ family and acquaintance and help us raise. ₹ 50,000. Your contribution could help us lend voice to the voiceless animals, so they can lead the happy life they deserve.

This is Bageera!! He had extreme skin disease and infection when he started coming to my home for food. With proper food and water his body started healing and present condition is nothing but a second life for him. He is grateful and also scares the s**t out of everyone else during night. But he knows he is a good boyy!
