Hi everyone, you may have noticed my lack of availability recently. I've been putting off this announcement for awhile now, I don't want to do it but feel I have to for a multitude of reasons.

I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know all of your bunnies and so many of you have treated me like family, something I will never forget. We've shared memes and stories, we've had chats over tea and shared good and bad news. But effective immediately I will no longer be offering my grooming services. I wish you all nothing but the best, please give your buns a face rub for me. ❤️

Well I'm mobile again and will be taking some appointments. My foot is still uncomfortable and in a walking boot so I'll have limited availability while it heals. 🐰

Well guys. I've done it again.
Last night I tripped and have more than likely sprained my foot again. At this point I can't put any weight on it and can barely get it into the walking boot. So unfortunately I'll be down for a little bit, at least until I can wear the boot more comfortably. 😔

Well, we're coming up to the end of the year. It's been an eventful one and not by choice between stubborn shoulder/elbow injuries that just wouldn't clear up to sprained ankles and feet. But you all stuck around and made this little business continue. Thank you for trusting me with your buns and sharing stories and laughs over how silly these troublemakers are. To add to that, thank you to everyone for the gifts, cards and well wishes these last few weeks.

From myself (Lisa) and the buns (Beebs, Buster & Bear) we hope you all have a very merry Christmas and happy (and safe) new year!

Nails have to be one of the most neglected part of rabbit care but one of the most important.

Overgrown nails can cause permanent and painful deformity of the foot, altering the way they walk and in turn affecting other joints. They can make walking difficult and in some cases impossible. And the biggest issue I see are nails breaking or being completely pulled off, this is not only painful but can lead to infections.

The general recommendation is nails should be done every 6 weeks. Keep in mind some rabbits have slower or quicker growth. Pictured is a before and after of one of my personal rabbits, she gets her nails done every 4 weeks and look at the difference. If she goes any longer I notice a significant increase in clumsiness when walking or jumping up on things.

I want to preface this by saying groomer bashing isn’t okay, putting other people down in your industry isn’t okay but having met local groomers who
- take pride in the fact that they have given flea dips and baths to rabbits
- utilize methods that are outdated even for dogs and cats on rabbits
- have admitted that they don’t have any knowledge on rabbits yet tell the owners they do because if they don’t get that client/money, someone else will and then proceed to use inappropriate methods on the rabbits.

I am ashamed, I am mad and I am disappointed as both a groomer and an owner. The information is out there, there are people around who are willing to help and yet they won’t accept help for whatever reason. If you're going to offer a service why not learn to do it safely? Grooming rabbits is not the same as grooming a dog or a cat. Some of the tools are the same. Some, SOME of the methods are the same. But technique, handling, behavior and needs are vastly different. Now I’m not saying I’m the only groomer who can do rabbits correctly, I’m sure there are other local groomers that can and I wish I could post them here to give everyone options but I cannot. Simply because I have not personally seen them work and can't vouch for them.

The point of all this is to please choose your groomer wisely for your rabbit. Even for something as small as a nail trim. Mishandling a rabbit can have serious consequences. Ask them questions and take a look at the environment. The following is what I would personally look for if I were looking for a groomer for my rabbits.

If using a salon I’d want to check out the environment to see how clean and how loud it is. If it’s full of barking dogs, loud dryers and loud music that’s a no for me. All that noise can be stressful on a rabbit. I also don’t want dogs roaming loose instead of being crated, too much of a bite risk.

Questions I’d ask would be:
- How long have they been grooming rabbits specifically?
- How did they learn?
- Do they know rabbit body language, specially the signs of stress?
- How would they comfort a stressed rabbit?
- What their handling technique was for the service I was inquiring about? (just because they’ve been doing it a way for X years doesn’t make it any less dangerous, safe technique is important)
- Do they allow me to stay and/or help? (while not common in dog grooming, it is accepted in rabbit grooming and sometimes encouraged as the rabbit feels safer)
- What is their stance on bathing, scruffing or trancing rabbits?
- Will my rabbit be around any other animals? (this includes being in their carrier with other animals around, ideally the rabbit would be the only animal in the salon)
- How long will it take and do they work on my rabbit straight through?

At the end of the day you have to be your rabbit’s advocate. Read up on safe handling so you know whats okay and what's not. And please choose your groomer wisely.

If you follow Hoppy Homes Rescue you'll see that they recently had an emergency situation come up with a pair of rabbits and babies that were dumped. These rabbits were outside in weather conditions and dealing with threats they were not equipped for. Despite being closed to intakes they went to help. So far they've caught mom and 5 babies. Dad is still on the run. To add to this, mom turned out to be pregnant AGAIN and gave birth a few days after being caught to 4 more babies!

On top of food, litter, other supplies and vet care for the animals already in their care they now have these 10 (11 when dad gets caught). This current crew will also have to be spayed/neutered and find foster homes.

In an effort to help I've done up these decals.
Color options are black, white or silver and they can either be permanent vinyl (indoor/outdoor use) or removable (indoor use).
They are $10 each with $5 from each decal sold going to the rescue. Pick up is in Mount Pearl, if you have an appointment with me I can deliver it. Please DM to order.

‼️We're back in action‼️

Piero had the honor of being the first to welcome me back. He made it clear he didn't miss our little dates 😅 but I still think he's the cutest little pumpkin in the patch.

If anyone is looking for an appointment please reach out again. 🥰 Also please keep in mind I am still having some mobility issues so if you have a bun that's hard to catch I kindly ask that you either have them contained in a small area with no hides or already picked up for their appointment.

Ever seen your bunny make these?
These are called a string of pearls and while it might sound cute or funny it can be a sign of a more serious issue.
Rabbits are big time groomers, always making sure they are in tip top shape but sometimes it gets to be a bit of a handful, especially during a heavy shed. Unlike cats who can throw up a hairball after their grooming, rabbits can't vomit. When they ingest too much fur it can it has to go through their digestive tract, sometimes causing blockages if large enough. A sign your rabbit is ingesting a little too much fur is p**p like this. If you see these it's time to break out the brush or call your groomer.

In the wild rabbits and hares wear down their nails by digging burrows and by travelling over hard ground in search of food, water and a place to call home. Our pet rabbits have the luxury of not having to worry about any of this but that means they must be trimmed on a regular basis to avoid becoming overgrown.
