The Dartmoor Family valais Blacknose sheep We are a family run Valais Blacknose breeder. We were blown away when we first encountered a swiss valais blacknose sheep. It’s true!

Our sheep are part of our family and we go above and beyond to nurture, socialise and love our lambs so that they can become part of yours. Little Black Knees......

We love animals.... All Animals...... And have you ever seen a sheep as cute as this? Valais blacknose sheep are exclusively bred as pets in most countries, and yo

u can see why. We knew that we wanted them to be a part of our lives. It’s not just the way they look, (although seriously, who could resist?) It’s the characteristics and behaviour of the breed. I remember being told that, with love and human contact, they would feel more like a dog than a sheep. When you make a bond with a blacknose you get a lot back. Their personalities too, each is unique and special. Having these girls in our lives has truly enhanced it. My daughters too have embraced our new woolly family, both literally and metaphorically! Our sheep and lambs are cuddled and stoked every day which creates the most sociable little lambs. We also believe that the very special valais blacknose character isn’t only a consequence of their genetics and that is why all of our sheep are born to valais blacknose mummies. Embryo transfers might be cheaper, they might be a clever way to develop certain genetics traits, but we believe it could be at the expense of that unique friendly character learned from a VBN mum in those early weeks and months. Personality is both nature and nurture. Our focus is nurturing the relationship between this gorgeous breed and their humans so that you can have that meaningful connection whist not compromising on the very best breeding for that distinctive look.

Each and every lamb I raise is hugely special to me. Truly a part of my family for the short but crucial time they spend with me. Each has their own unique personality but what they all share is a seemingly bottomless capacity to love. They bring such joy in those first few months and because they have only known kindness, they go on bring real joy to their new families.
Rhubarb and Plum had a gorgeous home lined up before they had even been born, with the totally wonderful Maddie and Sam. Total softies just like me. I couldn’t have been happier to send them to such a loving home.
New lambs due in the next few weeks. I’m very excited! I’ll be looking for wonderful homes for those little darlings too….

This is Harriet. She was my first ever lamb and the start of my blacknose journey. We were lucky enough to have 4 girls (from 3 ewes) in my first year which instantly over doubled my flock!

Harriet was confident and loving instantly. She is still is! She’s huge now, my biggest ewe by far and she’s a lovely mama.

She had triplets a couple of years ago, they went to lovely new homes and have all just had their first lambs too! How lucky we are to have these fantastic creatures in our lives… 😍

Valais Blacknose Sheep are known as the 'cutest sheep in the world' and for good reason. Not only are they gorgeous to look at: beautiful fleece, knee patches and that adorable face, but they have the most incredibly friendly nature too. Imagine a sheep that runs towards you for strokes and affection! Their other nickname of 'field dogs' is certainly well deserved.
Here at the Family Blacknose Sheep, we go that extra mile to ensure these wonderful pets are an incredible addition to your family. Socialised daily from birth with adults, children and animals, they really are a joy to have around. What a lovely surprise this was! A stolen moment back in the summer when Mr Ram found himself the wrong side of the fence (clever boy!)…. Didn’t think too much of it… And then….

What a wonderful and unexpected joy! Having sooo much fun with these beautiful boys. They already have a lovely home to go to which is fantastic news and they will certainly be loved like it’s going out of fashion…!

More lambs due to Late March and early April so please do express interest if you are looking for some exceptionally socialised pets. Excellent bloodlines and natural breeding is very important to us but our main focus is working super hard to ensure that these wonderful animals will bring joy to your lives and become truly part of your family!

I lost my old girl Zina today. An original Swiss import, 13 years old. What an incredible personality. The real matriarch of the flock. Calm, wise and confident.
I will miss you so much Zina. I know your woolly family will too…. There was only one Zina.
Thank you for giving me Hilda and Isobel. Thank you being there for mama’s waiting to lamb. Thank you for being the grandmother figure for the little ones growing up. Thank you for being that incredible, consistent, cool customer we all came to love….
