There are a LOT of Maine C**n 🐈 breeders around. How do you choose where to get your future feline companion??
Here’s what to look for in a Maine C**n 🐈‍⬛ breeder:
First, are they registered with either the International Cat Association (TICA), Cat Fanciers Association (CFA), American Cat Fanciers Association (ACFA), etc.? Do they show their animals?
Do they do genetics testing through DNA? 🧬 This is very common and easy to do. We specifically use Optimal Selection with Wisdom Panel.
Do they test the heart ♥️ with a certified Veterinary Cardiologist? This is done through an echocardiogram and is done every other year. It’s a common issue for any large breed animal.
Do they test for hip dysplasia? Another common issue with purebred, large breed animals. OFA can certify at 2 years of age, but preliminaries can be done as early as 10 months.
Lastly, what is the COI percentage? The coefficient of inbreeding should be well known for pedigree animals and should always be less than 10%. If a legitimate breeder can give you these numbers, they are the ones to go with!
These are just a few examples of how Catnip C***s is working to make their Maine C***s stand out!
Please share with your friends and watch out for those scammers! NEVER send a down payment without looking for these few things first. If they’re legitimate, they will gladly share details like these.

We are happy to report that our , Pepper’s heart echocardiogram from last week is normal! PTL! Thank you Dr. Heidi from UW Health for the local testing.
Friends, when looking for a future Maine C**n companion, look for reputable breeders that test for this and hip dysplasia. This is a common issue with large breed animals, but I’m happy to say we are on the right track to have kittens this winter!
