Isn’t he just the cutest kitty ever? 😍 Our sweet Icles was unfortunately diagnosed with a grade 4 heart murmur and HCM 😔 While Icles seems perfectly healthy, his heart is working extra hard all the time. He has started medicine to help, and will go back to the cardiologist in a few months to reassess. Ultimately, there is no cure for HCM but there are medicines we can give him to help slow the progression and prevent side effects. But ultimately, it will shorten his lifespan 😔 We were devastated at the news but are so thankful that he gets to see a great cardiologist to help us navigate it. Day to day, you wouldn’t have any idea that Icles has HCM. He runs around, plays, demands allllll the snuggles, and is his perfect, loving self. Every moment with this sweet boy is a treasure 💛

Icles update 💙 Icles is still the clingiest, sweetest kitty. He has learned when it’s naptime in our house and is ready to race to the baby’s bedroom to snuggle underneath the blankets each day lol Last week, he went to the vet for a checkup and his rabies vaccine. Unfortunately, the vet heard a heart murmur. While we hope it’s just a benign murmur, Sphynx cats are prone to heart problems, so he will be going to see a cardiologist tomorrow for a full work up. Fingers crossed that there is nothing serious going on with our sweet boy 🤞🏼

Meet our newest foster: Mr Icles 💙 This sweet boy was found outside. We volunteered to do his 10 day stray hold, assuming his owners would claim him almost immediately. 3 weeks later, and lots of sharing him everywhere we could think of, no owner ever showed up. He’s now officially our foster and is on track to be ready for adoption. We LOVE this sweet boy and all of his shenanigans!

Meet Button 😍 Someone saw him and his sister outside in the rain. By the time a rescue volunteer got there, his sister was nowhere to be found 😔 But thankfully, they were able to catch this little guy and get him into foster care. Having survived outside, he was a little hissy and spooked easily, so we offered to foster him individually to give him an extra dose of human snuggles! He has warmed up SO fast in the 24 hours he’s been with us and is already running up to greet us when we come into the room. He is 100% a professional biscuit maker and his purr motor never stops. His wild, playful side is coming out in full force today as well. Welcome to the good life, Button- we can’t wait to spoil you rotten for the next few weeks 💛

Happy Valentine’s Day from these two cuties 🥰 Peppermint is 100% healed from her leg amputation and isn’t letting it slow her down at all. Pine is officially chest plate free and living his best life now that he’s not on restricted activity. They are both ready for adoption and looking for the perfect home together 🥰

The cutest little finger monster 😍 I normally don’t encourage finger play, but I was willing to let Pine break all the rules while recovering. Now…. I thoroughly regret that decision and am actively working on proper redirection 😅😅😅

Foster Dad sent me this video this afternoon while I was out and I literally cried 😭 We were in the process of scheduling an appointment with the surgeon to put Pine back under sedation and trim his chest plate because he wasn’t moving around at all on his own. Then out of nowhere, the little guy just took off and is eating and using the litter box independently! 🎉 We are SO relieved and I’m looking forward to actually getting some sleep tonight 😅

Our little Peppermint got to come home yesterday after her anesthesia wore off. Her incision looks great and she’s already getting around so well on just 3 legs. She will be on crate rest and wearing a cone until it’s time for her stitches to come out, then she will be living her best life just like any other kitty! 🤍

I’m pretty sure I’ve spent more time sleeping in the playpen with Pine than I have sleeping in my own bed the past two nights 🙈 Pine’s recovery hasn’t been as smooth as we were hoping. He is still really hating the chest plate and is pretty much completely immobile. We have to hand feed him and hold him in the litter box and are on constant alert for him meowing so we can help assist him to where he needs to go. He doesn’t make it very long at night before crying out for someone, and if we don’t immediately get to him, he starts thrashing. I’ve reached out to his surgeon to see if this is still normal behavior for being 4 days post op or if we should be doing something different to help get him moving independently. He’s being a champ through it all though and just wants some to snuggle with him and rub his little face 🖤

It’s surgery day for our sweet Peppermint ❤️ This will be our third foster kitten who’s had a leg amputation so I’m feeling pretty prepared and confident for caring for her when she gets home. I’m sure she’s going to want ALL the snuggles, she hates being alone and wants to be with someone 24/7. She was very vocal about her dislike of being in the carrier on the way to the vet this morning lol

Pine is home and settling in ❤️ He was still in quite of a bit of discomfort while at medvet, so they sent him home with a few different kinds of pain meds to try to keep him as comfortable as possible at home. He is not a fan of his chest plate at all- it probably feels extremely weird for him and the surgeon said he’s probably feeling a lot of pressure from it. He has a cute little shirt to wear to keep the plate and stitches protected and a cozy bed with blankets to rest on. He immediately melted into my hands when he got home and fell asleep purring ❤️

07/01/2022

Pine’s surgeon called and he is out of surgery and in recovery and the surgery went wonderfully. ❤️ Apparently, he’s feeling a little grumpy- which is completely normal- so they’re making sure to keep him very well medicated and comfortable. If tonight goes smoothly, then he should be able to come back home tomorrow 💖

This playful little guy has his big surgery tomorrow for his pectus excavatum. They will be suturing his sternum to an external plate to help his chest start growing correctly so that there’s room for his heart and lungs. Pine has a fascination with wanting to climb and be up high, but because of his exposed heart, we haven’t been able to let him. We can’t wait until he’s all better and can climb all the cat trees 🖤

Pine met with his surgeon at MedVet today. He’s currently scheduled to have his pectus excavatum surgery on January 7th. The surgeon said it will be about 4-6 weeks before they can remove the chest plate, and he will need weekly checkups during that time to monitor him and make sure his sternum is continuing to grow out. Like with any surgery, there’s a long list of potential risks, but the surgeon seemed confident in his ability to help fix Pine’s chest. We will be keeping a super close eye on Pine until then to make sure nothing worsens but at the moment, he’s starting to get past the virus that’s been making him feel ucky and is being quite the little cuddle bug 💖

Pine 🖤 This little guy also had his vet appointment today. We had our fingers crossed that we were wrong about his suspected pectus excavatum, but unfortunately, he does have it. The vet said his case is severe and is considered critical. It’s so severe that his heart is being pushed out of his chest cavity and is currently below his sternum, where it is vulnerable and unprotected. Without surgery, Pine won’t survive, and the older he gets, the more risky the surgery is. He has a consult scheduled with a specialty surgeon and his actual surgery is estimated to be $3000-$4000 at the moment. Josephs Legacy is a small, foster based rescue who literally saves animals off of the streets. They never shy away from emergency cases and desperately need help with funds. Any donations are greatly appreciated as Pine needs this surgery as soon as possible 🖤

Let’s start with Peppermint 🤍 This little girl had an X-ray done of her non bending leg this morning. As soon as the vet took her out of her carrier, her back leg bonked her right in the face 🙈 After doing an exam and looking at X-rays, the vet recommended surgery to remove the leg. The knee isn’t formed properly and she’s missing ligaments in the leg as well. Of course, just like our previous fosters Sol and Luna, 3 legged kitties live a perfectly normal, happy life. Peppermints leg amputation will be around $450 and is being funded through Joseph’s Legacy. Any and all donations go directly to animals that are the most in need.

Meet Pine 🖤💚 This cute little guy is extra special. He has a deformity in his chest that we strongly believe to be pectus excavatum. He has a vet appointment for first thing tomorrow to try to figure out what’s going on with him. In the mean time, he’s getting lots of love and is spending his time resting and making biscuits 🖤

Meet Peppermint ❤️🤍 This little girl is super sweet and soaking up all the love we can give her, especially the belly rubs. Peppermint was born with a leg that is a little wonky- it sticks straight out and doesn’t bend at all. She will be going to the vet first thing tomorrow to have it examined and to figure out what the best solution is for her. Welcome to your foster home little Peppermint 🤍

We are so happy to share that Mitchell and Cyprus have been adopted! ☺️💛 They’ve had a couple weeks to settle in and are doing great with their family and their new big brother. When we first fostered Mitchell, we thought it would be a very short term foster just to get him neutered and adopted, couple weeks at most. Well, he definitely threw us some curve balls 😅 He ended up getting really sick so we had to change his neuter date, by the time we got him better, the next neuter date was pretty far out. Mitchell REALLY needed a friend because his single kitten syndrome was getting pretty intense, so we found the perfect match in Cyprus. Right before their neuter date, Cyprus got sick and we repeated the whole process 🥴 Eventually, both of these boys were finally neutered and ready for adoption. It took us some time to find the perfect match- Cyprus is a wrecking ball of energy and Mitchell is such a sensitive little boy who doesn’t like to be separated from his people. But we absolutely love their new family and know that they are adored there ❤️ We all miss these boys so much, from all of Cyprus’s shenanigans to Mitchell always flopping down on my chest for snuggles, but we are so truly happy for them 💛🖤
