Sometimes in my practice I come across an owner who wants to normalize something that isn’t normal.

This sounds like:

❌ My horse works out of the stiffness/lameness after 15 minutes under saddle.
❌ He always crow hops after a bigger jump.
❌She throws her head around in the arena but not on the trail (or vise versa).
❌He always makes a face when I do the girth up.
❌It usually takes me 15 minutes to catch her and I need food to do it.
❌The left lead is always harder to get.
❌She’s always weaved in her stall.

These kinds of statements are usually followed by “that’s just the way he/she is.”

This is your horse speaking to you, over and over and over again. Please listen, before they have to get louder. Stop and think about what behaviors your horse demonstrates that maybe don’t seem totally right to you but you’ve just accepted them as “normal”.

This is a question very much worth asking of yourself, then your horse, then work with your trainer/horse care professionals to get to the bottom of it.

Answer the question as best you can, and you build a deeper, more solid partnership with your horse. Why? Because you listened. And then you did something about it. And your horse knows it.

Such a lovely dog for someone 💙 please share and help get Harry the perfect home🫶🏻

Handsome Harry was in from a local dog fosterer who does amazing work. Due to unethical and poor breeding choices poor Harry suffers with a lot of pain in his back.

Despite this Harry is the absolute best loving German shepherd I've ever met.

Hoping to find Harry a home that he is loved and cared for the way he should

Total hip replacement is one of the most rewarding surgeries an orthopaedic specialist can perform, because the result can quickly be life changing for the patient. In our experience, within as little as a couple of weeks, a patient can be permanently out of pain and the implants can last a lifetime.

Imba is an 8 month old German Shepherd, who even at her young age had very loose hip joints, severely affected by hip dysplasia. She was in significant pain, having trouble getting up and was screaming. As she ages, this problem would only continue to worsen. In order to prevent the inevitable discomfort and give Imba the chance to grow up pain-free, her family opted for a total hip replacement (THR).

Less than 24 hours later, Imba was moving very well indeed; a wonderful result. Some people can be nervous of THR surgery, especially for a young dog. I have published a paper about many THRs I have performed in young dogs aged between 6 months and 1 year, who have gone on to do amazingly well, living long and happy lives. The complication rate is no higher than for THR in older dogs in my experience.

I hope if your canine friend happens to find themselves in this situation that Imba gives you reassurance x

PETS and FIREWORKS 🐕🎆

Many animals find fireworks scary. Owners will often see their pets struggling, either frozen with fear or, in the most dangerous circumstances - bolting, rearing up or charging fences.

Last year alone, we received hundreds of calls reporting dogs bolting, escaping or found scared and frightened by fireworks.

Below are some tips for keeping your pets safe, especially this coming weekend:

🐶Walk your dog during daylight hours to avoid times when fireworks are likely to be set off.
🐶Move your dog to the safe haven each evening before the fireworks begin. Provide toys and other things that they enjoy in the safe haven.
🐶Make sure there are things for you to do too, so your dog isn't left alone.
🐶Close windows and curtains to muffle the sound of fireworks. 🐶Blackout your doggy safe haven, so they can't see any flashes outside.
🐶Put on some music or TV to mask the firework sounds.
🐶Ignore the firework noises yourself.
🐶Play with a toy to see if your dog wants to join in, but don't force them to play.
