African Grey Parrots tend to get quite anxious when you introduce something new and unknown into its environment, weather its a human or an object.
Some parrots can get extremely startled and this this can affect their health. Thus the need to be sensitive while adding anything new to their space.
Whenever you would like to bring in something new (Perch, toy, or otherwise), leave the object around your Greys space and let your bird explore it on its on. DO NOT FORCE THE INTERACTION.
Once your Grey begins nipping on it for a while it will understand that the object is not a threat. You may then proceed to move it closer or place it wherever you please.
Do note, sometimes this process can take day. Patience is key with Greys.

Irritants and toxins
Before you get a pet, please thoroughly understand the dos and the donts.
Birds are extremely sensitive to inhaled irritants and toxins and can oftentimes die suddenly following exposure.
The substances mentioned in the video can be toxic to birds even in minuscule amounts.

Is your Grey a seed addict & refuses to eat fresh fruits and vegetables? Well, then sprouts are they to help them get their daily dose of protein as they are more easily accepted by our birds.
Moreover, sprouting also enhances their nutritional value as the germinating process breaks down some of the starch, which makes the percentage of available nutrients in seeds & grains much higher

We all want to give our birds all the love and time in the world but in the current situation, especially with work from home taking up too much time, we need to make sure our birds are getting the necessary encouragement to hon their mental and physical agility.
It is very important to introduce your Grey to Foraging toys that not only keep them busy but also:
🔻Provide them with a challenge
🔻Increase opportunities for exercise
🔻Burn excess energy
🔻Help prevent negative behavior such as self-mutilation, plucking, screaming for attention, fear of unknown objects, aggression
🔻Builds confidence
🔻Improves brainpower
🔻Helps them explore the strengths and use of their beak, feet, etc. (motor skills, dexterity)
🔻Helps them identify textures, colors, shapes.
🔻Satisfies their curiosity & their appetite for treats
🔻A reward for all their effort
There are primarily two types of foraging toys: Reusable and Chewable.... more on that later 😉

Yes, flowers 🌺🌼
In the wild #AfricanGreyParrots eat a variety of seeds, nuts, fruits, berries, veggies, insects and vegetation.
While we are providing as much natural food as we can, we are leaving out vegetation (e.g. flowers, plants & more)
Though we can't provide them with a jungle of their own to thrive in, we can try to bring them some of its vegetational benefits at home once in a while.

Contrary to popular belief, Seeds and Nuts SHOULD NOT be offered as meals but should be offered as treats for your Grey.
They should make up ONLY 10% of your bird's diet and it is important to ensure that they are dried and unsalted.

It's heating up and a good way to keep your greys hydrated is with fruits like orange in the sweltering afternoon.
Do you have any tips for keeping greys cool and hydrated in the summer?

Here is a list of safe Vegetables you can feed your beloved birds 😊
#AfricanGreysIndia
We have had a lot of questions on what our Greys can eat, so we have made a few lists for you all with produce available in the Indian market & we hope you all find them helpful 😃
Let's begin with Fruits!
