Today I had the pleasure of training members of West Mercia Search & Rescue who are working towards adding an operational search & rescue dog team in the near future. Well done guys 🐾

D O G F I R S T A I D

Today some of our team members completed a dog first aid course run by Dog First Aid Wolverhampton. We covered a lot of areas such as dog CPR, bandaging, choking, seizures, bleeds and more.
Completion of todays training takes the team one step closer to supporting our trainee search dogs to becoming operational in the near future.
Please give a round of ‘apaws’ to our new Dog First Aiders 👏🏼

With Halloween today and Diwali Thursday and Friday, we can expect fireworks.

While some dogs are not phased at all, others will be fearful. Some are susceptible to loud and sudden noises which can cause pain in their ears.

Your dog need not suffer, here are some useful tips to help you plan ahead and ensure your beloved companion feels safe throughout the fireworks season.

💨⚠️ ‼️STORM ASHLEY ‼️⚠️💨
Extremely high winds forecast with Storm Ashley. What does that mean for us as dog owners? Well, it means that there is a greater chance of our dogs getting loose and lost.
💨 Risk of winds blowing down fences or blowing open gates.
✔️Step out into the garden to check that it’s secure before letting your dog out.
💨 Risk of things blowing over, noises, dogs being spooked and running off on walks.
✔️ Make sure microchip and tags are up to date in case the worst happens.
💨 Dogs can’t use their sense of smell so keenly, which means they are at a disadvantage when out and about, and can lose their way back to you.
✔️ Keep dogs on lead during their walk, even if familiar.
💨 High winds and changes in pressure can agitate dogs, which means they can display sign of anxiety, restlessness and they can become unsettled and hyperreactive to stimuli.
✔️ Follow familiar routes, reassure where necessary, keep calm and praise at every opportunity.

🐾 The leaves begin to change colour 🍂, pumpkin-spiced lattes 🎃 become the perfect winter warmer on those picturesque walks 🚶, and Halloween brings heaps of fun! 👻✨ This season is all about transformation and change.

However, with the beauty of autumn comes cooler temperatures, shorter days, and a few hazards you should be aware of to keep your pets safe. 🐶🐱

Here are just a few dangers to watch out for...👇
