Blackberry is just the coolest dog. I met this girl awhile back at Animal Defense League of Texas Paul Jolly Campus. She was full of energy and did not know how to express her feelings. She had BIG reactions to new friends while on leash and had a real hard time focusing on her handler. This brilliant lady came to life with engagement games and we worked with her on building her confidence on leash. Look at how awesome she is! Those happy feet and tail just make my day.
If you are interested in training that is fun and relaxing for your dog or learning more about reactivity and engagement games feel free to shoot us a email, phone call, text or social media message.
If you are interested in opening your home to Blackberry or any of her AWESOME rescue friends at ADL please contact them for more details!

Gary is one of the awesome dogs at the ADL Paul Jolly Campus. When I first met this dude he chomped all the way up the leash and then wrapped me in a big bear hug and whined for pets. He really just wanted to be reinforced. With the help of the AMAZING staff, we implemented a training plan and started a Four on the Floor program. In just a couple short weeks look how far he has come! If you are interested in learning more about leash manners and Four on the Floor feel free to shoot us an email, phone call, text or social media message!
If you’d like more info about Gary or any of the other AWESOME dogs at ADL contact Animal Defense League of Texas to schedule your visit!

Distractions along your walk can be tough! Teaching your dog to look to you when presented with a distraction is a great way to promote communication while giving your dog a chance for reinforcement, and you a chance to acknowledge what they are trying to tell you and provide the appropriate support.
Orion and Samson both have big feelings when on leash. While Orion is a little more forward with his interactions, Samson can be more timid. By checking in they are both able to communicate how they are feeling to their handlers, giving their families the chance to help them along, ultimately building their own dog’s confidence on leash.
If you are interested in more info on helping your dog communicate more efficiently and/or what to do with that information shoot us an email, phone call, text or social media message. Do not forget to keep an eye out for Out For a Walk classes and much more to come.

Today I had the pleasure of working with some of the outstanding adoptables at Animal Defense League of Texas Paul Jolly campus. Kinsley is an awesome girl who just wants to be your friend. Today we worked on keeping all four of her paws on the floor. She is so smart, she caught on so quick. This girl is working on building a solid training foundation and would be an awesome addition to your family. If you are interested in Kinsley or some of the awesome other dogs at ADL I highly recommend making an appointment to check out the amazing dogs at the Paul Jolly campus!

At the beginning of the year Max came to us with his mom. Max was just a pup, full of energy and excitement for exploring the new world. With that in mind, Max was really having a hard time on leash, especially when he saw friends. He just HAD to say hi. After just a month of hard work and consistency from his awesome family, Max was off to success. We took a training break for him to recover from his neuter and today was our first day back together. Look at how awesome this guy is. He’s been on med rest and today was the first day back at it, but because of all the time his family invested in training he was able to pick up right where we left off.
In the first clip Max demonstrates just how much more engaged he is with his handler along walks. Knowing they can look to you for guidance along your walk is a great way to lower your dog’s anxiety and set them up for success. In the second clip you see Max noticing a contractor at the neighbors and we start playing the “What was that?” game. Notice how I start by rewarding Max for looking toward the man and quickly switch to rewarding him for looking back to me. This teaches him that, it’s ok to check out the scary/interesting/exciting thing, but my handler is right there to help me get through it together!
If you would like more information about learning what our dogs are trying to tell us along our walks and how we can better communicate to them what we would like, feel free to shoot us a message!

Muzzles...these guys have gotten such a bad rep. Pop culture puts muzzles on the villain, the mean dog, the dangerous one. In the real world a muzzle can be your dog’s ticket to freedom. Some dogs do have bite inhibition issues and a muzzle can definitely prevent dog bites; however, a muzzle is also a clear sign to the public that “my dog would like space.” Your dog might be just shy and doesn’t like to be approached by strangers, or maybe your dog loves people, but can do without doggy friends in their face. A muzzle is their safety. It says, “hey we’d like space,” but in the event space isn’t given you’ve both got an extra layer of protection.
At CLIMB we focus on making training fun and having dogs opt in. If the dog wants to learn and is having fun doing it studies show it sticks. The muzzle target game is an awesome way to help your dog become comfortable putting their nose in a muzzle and gets them accustomed to the fact that when the muzzle comes out they get lots of great things. Remember, just like you remember that one time that one waiter was rude at that one restaurant so you don’t go back, your dog builds associations as well. When it comes to our muzzle we want it to be nothing but a positive experience. In the video watch Cora the Bull Terrier target her Baskerville muzzle for cheese. She is free to walk away at anytime and he brother is right off camera playing with toys. Getting to engage in this training opportunity was her choice and something she placed a lot of value in.
If you would like more info on muzzle training or just training in general we would love to explain further. Remember we offer group classes and private sessions as well as much more and would love to help you and your dog communicate more efficiently. Happy Training
