A sad story😿 start but read to the end 😻💕. A couple of weeks ago in July, a good friend asked if we could help her friend’s friend who sadly passed away July 3, leaving behind 4 cats. Fortunately, 2 of the kitties found homes leaving, Spider and Ghost, two bonded sisters who were actually the friend’s boyfriend’s cats and sadly he also passed away. These unspayed 9 year old girls had a tough future ahead of them of finding home. No one wants mature age cats, specially a bonded pair, and usually opt to adopt much younger single ones. We were expecting a long search.
We went to evaluate them and found them scared and clinging closely to each other on the shelf in the bathroom. They were so tightly embracing each other we had never seen this before and it was really sad😿. Their kind foster promised her dying friend that she would honor her request and find a home for the girls. While it was tight quarters, they had a cat tree in there, food, water, and safety.
Thanks to Denise of Worsham Cats Rescue we secured 2 spay appts for them on 7/31 at Richmond Animal League (a low cost spay/neuter clinic in Midlothian, VA, who we love working with). Spider’s spay went well and all was normal. However, Ghost’s spay was much more complicated. She had 2 enlarged ovaries, an inflamed uterus retaining fluid and with cysts all over 🙀. The doctor was really shocked at how this kitty was so messed up inside and so painfully uncomfortable!😿
After the surgery they went back to their foster until we went to pick them up Saturday afternoon a week ago. We settled them in our bathroom at the office where they had some more space and lots of towels and beds to lay on while they recovered from their surgery. And so the search began…
We are so grateful and give another BIG thanks to Denise of Worsham Cats Rescue who posted the girls’s story on their social pages. They got so many views and likes and shares and even some offers to take them. However, the cat gods had something else in mind or we believe it was Holly and her boyfriend working miracles from up in Heaven 🙏 that got Denise thinking and she put us in contact with her friends Sandy and Bill. They agreed to meeting Spider and Ghost and possibly adopting them. 😻. We did the meet and greet last Sunday and we got applications for them to go together!
After checking references and doing our due diligence, we approved the application and set up a time for the adoption. We ❤️ that they are just a couple of miles away and so we took the girls to their furever home just last night 😻!! We will be following up with a visit in the next 2 weeks.
We apply the Rule of 3’s for all adopted kitties when going to their new home. The "3-3-3 rule" is a guideline for helping a newly adopted cat adjust to its new home. It suggests that it takes approximately 3 days for a cat to decompress, 3 weeks to start adjusting to the new routine and environment, and 3 months to fully settle in and feel comfortable and at home.
It truly took a village of animal loving and caring people to give Spider and Ghost a fifth chance at life and not end up in a shelter where they could have been separated or even euthanized.
HUGE Thank You to everyone involved for helping Spider and Ghost 😻💕 and more importantly to Sandy & Bill for adopting them 🩷
