Cold winter day, nothing better than puppy snuggles! Everyone got a bath this morning! Then a couple hours later one stepped in poop and got it in on two of the other puppies. 🤣🤦🏻♀️ Working on our puppy manners and that toys are for biting, not humans. They got to socialize with some of the house dogs, kids, and met the cat who was not happy to meet them. Nail trims, playtime, potty breaks, and the little white puppy Groot even watches tv! They’re SO cute!
North Carolina trip
We went to North Carolina to pick some dogs to save and ended up taking 7 from one shelter, Wake County. We had planned on shelter hopping, but we ended up pulling all from there. What I typically look for is dogs that I think are going to be kid, dog, and cat friendly. If they are barrier reactive or kennel reactive we skip over them. I would say at least 1/4 of what we see tend to react strongly to seeing my husband, so we skip over those. All rescues have their thing, this is mine. We try our best to pick dogs that we think will have no aggression. We spent hours meeting dogs, dog testing with the shelter staff, and cat testing. My husband originally said we couldn’t go home with more than 1-3, but we left with 7. Some were little dogs that hardly count because they don’t take up space and once medically cleared we would be able to adopt quickly anyway up North, so we would just be overcrowded and overworked for a short period of time. One of my fosters doubled up with adult siblings, so that was very helpful as well!
Bull Terrier pups!
The puppies are starting to eat food! Look how cute!
Henry’s Rescue
"Someone that has cared enough to feed Him for over months Sent me this. He waits... After his owners left him behind, when they found a new place to rent, and probably a new dog! It's raining, it's cold and will freeze. He will still be there waiting for owners to come back.... How does the street feeder tell him, they won't? How do you make a faithful servant not to obey?" Everyday the stray feeder makes her rounds and feeds Henry. All he has is his cat friends. Sometimes when people pass by walking their dogs he tries to tag along. He is lonely and longs to belong. Our rescue found an adopter and a foster who is willing to take him, but we had to get someone to secure him first. We had people go out to try to catch him and mean, strange men chased him off with a stick. Henry's trust was hard to gain after this. They tried trapping him with no luck and putting sedatives in his food with no luck . He was too smart and just let his cats eat the food. Finally after weeks of trying, the feeder was able to get a leash on him! He is now in boarding and will be making his way to his foster home and then his adopter! Prepping for dogs
This is a glimpse into part of how we prepare for dogs coming in. That weekend we had 14 dogs coming in. I had to prepare over 150 syringes of dewormer and meds for them all. We have been sending 5 days of dewormer per dog, plus 6 of the puppies were having tummy issues, so I sent an additional 7 days of another med for them. I had some liquid heartworm prevention for some of the dogs, so lots of separating! For the puppies with the upset stomachs, I made rice and mixed pumpkin and a little probiotic to send with them. I made around 5 days for each dog puppy. So had 35 bowls made for them. Lots of cage cleaning, walking, poop scooping, and so much more! This is just some of what our prepping looks like. #PDAR #rescue #tired
Sophie received her freedom ride. Unfortunately, she ate through her sutures and had to get stapled back up. Always something!! This lucky lady has been adopted! Sweet, sweet girl ! One of our heartworm positive babies.
Update: Transport covered! Thank you so much!!
Another Sophie! Look how smart and obedient she is! She is currently in Texas and is looking for a transport sponsor to get her to VA, hopefully the 21st.. Cost for transport is $200. She is another heart worm positive dog. She is listed as a Bernese Mountain Dog mix. She's 45lbs. She is also looking for a foster or adopter. Since she is heart worm positive, it is highly likely she was an outside dog, meaning she's probably not house trained. Adults tend to pick up house training quicker than puppies because better bladder control though!
