INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR NEW PUPPY

Congratulations on purchasing your new puppy. This is going to be a fun and exciting time with many new experiences. Here are some important things that need to be considered after you take your new family member home. (This has already been completed, You will get Certificate when you pick up your pup). The 2nd vaccination 4 weeks later at 12-14 weeks of age. Du

e date is in/on vaccination certificate. The 3rd vaccination at another 4 weeks later. Then 12 months later...this one can now be a tri=annual vaccination. IMPORTANT SAFTEY: Given that your puppy has only recently been vaccinated DO NOTtake your puppy to areas where other dogs have been, that means anywhere AT ALL in public, until after puppies second and third vaccination has been completed. Don't have other dogs visit your new puppies home as diseases can be transferred easily to your puppy. Your new puppy needs three vaccinations within the first four months of his/her life. Speak with your vet regarding ongoing vaccination program. WORMING: Puppies can have passed to them from their mothers milk. Therefor it is very important to worm your puppy regularly. Your puppy has already been wormed at 2 weeks, 6 weeks and 8 weeks of age. Please speak to your vet in regards to an ongoing worming program. HEART WORM: Heartworm is passed on by Mosquitoes from one dog to another. Heart worm is easily prevented with medication. There is a yearly injection, that can only be given when the dog is an adult, there is also a tablet that can be given daily or monthly until the dog is an adult, and able to have the injection. Please speak to your Vet about your options. IMPORTANT!!! If your heartworm treatment lapses for some reason...DO NO RECOMENCE IT! If you treat a dog for heartworm...and he has heartworm...you could kill him. If treatment lapses for whatever reason...get your vet to test him/her first. An ANNUAL injection is available and we believe this is the best option. DESEXING: Desexing is not a consideration if you intend to breed your dog. However if your puppy is a family pet only, then desexing prior to 6 months of age will leave you with a much quieter, more manageable, and friendlier dog. There can also be medical reasons for desexing. Also, if your dog is desexed prior to council registration, your registration cost will be much cheaper. Again please speak to your Vet about your options. FEEDING: It is important to feed your puppy a nutritionally balanced diet. A good quality Commercial dog food, as well as raw meaty bones for good dental health is desired. Raw chicken necks are a great source of calcium for your growing puppy. And always make sure your dog has plenty of fresh cool water ESPECIALLY in the summer months. MICROCHIPPING: By law all puppies from the age of 8 weeks must be microchipped for permanent identification. This has been completed and your puppy is now microchipped and tranferring to your name will happen upon completion of purchase. You should soon receive a letter from your local council asking you to register your dog. The cost of Lifetime registration is currently approx $50 for desexed dogs, and for none desexed dogs the cost is approx $190. This cost may vary from council to council. SOCIALISING: Puppy preschool is ideal for your new puppy to learn both socialising skills and manners. Your local vet should be able to help you identify the best option for your area. The first few days: Please keep in mind that for your new puppy everything has changed. Water, Food, surroundings and family. Puppy will need lots of rest as the transition may have been a little stressful, especially if travel is involved. Make sure there is plenty of fresh water, food, cuddles and rest time. Puppy may have a soft stool due to changes, this is nothing to be concerned about. If you are concerned at all please be in touch with us and we will advise.
