Play with your dogs. I cannot ever stress this enough! Make your dogs life fun and new as much as you can. I make sure to play with my dogs every day, not just leave them to entertain themselves all the time. I enjoy making toys as much as a reward as treats, the same for praise. It is so important to make sure you’re meeting each specific dogs stimulation needs, as well as just taking the time to enjoy your dog and goof off with them.
Messing around with Nimbus a bit on retrieves ❤️ just some fun tricks in the making as we set foundations
The one who started it all, Gatsby ❤️
Gatsby is a 4.5 year old border collie who came into my life when I didn’t know I needed him. I had just had my heart broken by having my service dog prospect, Arcadius, dying at 14 weeks old due to no fault of me or him. It was traumatic. And hard. And Gatsby was shown to me a few weeks later as I still needed a service dog.
I knew nothing about border collies. I had spent all that time researching poodles. But he was a perfect fit for me. He made me a better trainer. He made me get into sports like agility and have the passion to teach him everything I possibly could. He had natural alerts that I carefully tracked and he made it known he was my dog.
Gatsby is the reason I decided to go to school to be a dog trainer. I had found a passion for dog behavior, and then a passion for helping people have the ability to have a service dog. The Rainbow Dog was born.
Gatsby is still my main man and my heart dog. He works part time now (because I ended up needing mobility, so I also work a standard poodle named Sandal). He works full time at home and is my shadow and my world.
I love all my dogs, but I have to give a small shout out and background to how this business started, and how it all started with Gatsby.
Working on SDIT Toad’s focus at a Lowe’s!
When they’re this young, sessions in public are always pet friendly and always 25 minutes or less. This helps keep the puppy happy and focused, as well as gets the handler used to having a dog with them in public to help those PA jitters!
Learning down on voice command ❤️ she’s such a smart cookie.
