FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

HOW DOES THE ADOPTION PROCESS WORK? The adoption process begins by completing our online application, found at the bottom of the Biography section on each dogs profile page. On the application, you can specifiy which dog(s) you are interested in adopting. Once the application is approved, you will be contacted by one of our volunteers and/or fosters. The foster or volu

nteer will share their experiences, and help you get to know the dog. We will arrange a Meet & Greet, where all members of the family will meet the dog. A home visit may also be done prior to acquiring the dog. After the Application, Home Visit and Meet & Greet are completed, it all parties are still in agreement, we will proceed with the adoption. Our minimum age for adoption is 25 year of age. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE? It generally should take no more than one week to complete the process. Most times it can be completed in a matter of days. You may hear from us sooner if we have any questions regarding your application. HOW MUCH IS THE ADOPTION FEE AND WHAT IS INCLUDED? The adoption fees vary by age and health status. These fees are the major source of funding for the rescue. It is used to pay for veterinary care and shelter fees, allowing us to continue to rescue more dogs. Your adopted dog will be neutered or spayed, current on vaccines, microchipped, and checked by a veterinarian for an overall health/wellness examination. We ask a minimum donation to the rescue of $250 for dogs older than eight months and $300 for puppies eight months and younger. For seniors or dogs with health issues, our fees may be reduced. MUST MY YARD BE FENCED? Having a fenced yard is required for the Northern Breeds. WHY SHOULD I ADOPT A RESCUE DOG? Help save a precious life! Many dogs end up on death row in kill-shelters through no fault of their own. Most are strays but many are irresponsibly abandoned by their families for many reasons which indicate they never should have owned a dog in the first place (job relocation, new spouse doesn't like it, no time...etc.). Some are even confiscated from their owners due to cruelty or neglect. Rescued dogs are evaluated for health and temperament and matched to the right home. We want to make sure you get a dog that is best for your family. We will counsel you should there be any adjustment issues and support you to correct any potentially unacceptable behaviors for the entire lifetime of your new pet. Where else can you get that kind of continued support? We care about the dogs and your experience with them. IS OBEDIENCE TRAINING NECESSARY? WHAT ABOUT CRATING? No dogs are "instant pets" as they all require some work. Obedience training is a wonderful way to help a new dog adjust and will reinforce already learned commands or provide learning for the first time. It will help the dog accept that you are in charge and ease the building of a bond with you. Dogs do best when provided with positive reinforcement and gentle methods of training. We highly recommend that you carefully choose a trainer. Crating should be viewed from a dog's perspective. Humans tend to see it a "puppy jail" and a cruel means of restraint. The fact is that dogs have a natural need for their own safe space and crates provide a means to satisfy their den instincts. Many crate-trained dogs like to lay in an open crate when they want to be left alone. Crating a dog facilitates housebreaking and prevents destructive behaviors when left alone. We highly encourage crating and obedience training.

This beautiful 2-year-old female husky mix was found wandering the streets before finding her way to Lucky Huskies Rescue. Shiloh is good with children, loves other dogs, walks well on a leash, and loves to gives kisses. Although she is very sweet and playful, she is very shy with men; would do well in a quiet, female only household or in search of the perfect family. It is unknown how she is with small animals such as birds, cats, rabbits, etc., so it is not recommended for small animals to be around her at this time.

Shiloh is looking for a husky-savvy family who can continue to provide her with positive training, regular exercise, good nutrition, love, and affection. Shiloh is microchipped and up to date on vaccines and is spayed. Her adoption fee is $400. The minimum adoption age is 25 and no apartments/condos.

Overall, Dutton is one happy husky, he always seems to have a smile on his face! He is a gorgeous 1 1/2-year-old gray and white male husky that came to us as a stray and is very adept at scaling walls. Dutton had a rough start and will require a great deal of patience to truly acclimate to a new home. He has a very sweet personality, and he absolutely loves the ladies! Although he is loving and playful, he is very shy with men; would do well in a quiet, female only household or in search of the perfect family. He is a slowly making progress walking on a leash and learning to trust humans more each day. He loves belly rubs, brushing, and just hanging out. Dutton does well with other low key, chill, non-confrontational female dogs that are his size. It is unknown how he is with small animals such as birds, cats, rabbits, etc., so it is not recommended for small animals to be around Dutton at this time.

It’s been some time since you’ve had a Calypso update. But this one was worth the wait.

For those of you who don’t know this resilient girl’s story, Calypso is a husky that came to us, paralyzed in her hind legs and incontinent.

She was taken to county as stray in her wheelchair, but due to her disability, the country was not able to meet her needs. They reached out to us, asking us to take her in as an urgent case because she was placed on the euthanasia list. So of course we rushed to get her out and into a comfortable environment.

We soon realized that Calypso needed a lot of work. She was found to have Valley Fever, needed MRIs done, a spinal surgery and extensive physical therapy.

And because of our amazing and generous community, we were able to make this happen. This video proves that miricals do happen. After several months, here you have it, Calypso STANDING on her own.

She has healed, and is working hard to learn to walk again. Her progress is inspirational. She has a long journey ahead of her, but she is strong.

Calypso still has a long way to go. If you have a couple bucks to spare. We ask that you consider donating towards helping her walk again.

If you are looking for a high energy, goofy and loveable dog, look no further! Oscar is approximately a 1 - 2-year-old male husky. He was trapped by HARTT - Humane Animal Rescue and Trapping Team after he was clipped by a car. The gash on a front leg and contusions around his mouth have been treated and are now a thing of the past. When we brought Oscar into boarding, he was completely shut down; since then he has blossomed into a love bug. It takes him a few minutes to assess you before he's rolling around at your feet and looking at treats.

This handsome boy is ready to find his forever home! Here's what he would like for you to know about him: Oscar can be reserved and cautious at first in a new situation but warms up quickly. He is sweet, playful and loves belly rubs. One of his favorite games is tag and keep away! He is a favorite at his boarding home.

Large dogs are OK with proper introduction. He is not good with small animals such as birds, cats, rabbits, etc., so it is not recommended for small animals to be around him at this time.

Spirit is a handsome fluffy male husky approximately 8 years old. He came to Lucky Huskies from animal control in Apache Junction and is currently being treated for Valley Fever. Here's what Spirit would like for you to know about him:

Personality - Sweet, affectionate, all around happy guy, curious, ghost-like howl and average energy level. He walks well on a leash and has good manners. Spirit enjoys car rides and will sing the songs of his people while in the car. After all, Huskies are a talkative breed and have lots to say! Also, he has such a unique blue spot in one eye! How adorable.

PUPdate on Sunny (previously Phoebe)

Firstly, a huge THANK YOU for all your generous donations! 🙏🏼

Sunny went in for surgery on Wednesday; we took new scans before surgery and got some surprising, good news! Our vet recommended a less invasive solution for her. Based on the new scans it was determined that her natural healing is far enough along that we could get her back to almost as good as new with physical therapy and no surgical intervention.

We did however get her spayed and microchipped since she was already under anesthesia. She returned to her foster home a bit groggy, but as of this morning I am happy to report she is back to her happy playful self.

Now the key is to keep her movements restricted (jumping, running, etc.) to allow her leg to continue to heal. We will recheck her healing in 1 month and if the vet is satisfied with her progress, we will begin PT.

Given this good news from the Vet, we will be repurposing the funds that were so generously raised for her surgery to her PT and scans.

As always, you make it possible for us to continue rescuing huskies in need!

❗️🏠Foster Needed🏠❗️

Balton was a former adoptee that has recently come back to us under unfortunate circumstances, he lost his previous owner and is now in search of a new family to call his own. He is a sweetheart, likes cuddles and is eager to please... walks well on a leash, easily corrected and overall, a happy guy. Balton is a typical fun-loving husky who would be happy as a single dog or as part of a family. He loves dogs but has a very high prey drive and does not do well with small animals such as birds, cats, rabbits, etc., so it is not recommended for small animals to be around Balton.

PUPDATE: We are at $450 of our $2,100 goal! I

We have picked her up and she is currently in a foster home. Her sweet, upbeat personality has earned her the nickname Sunny at her foster home. All she wants to do in life is receive love and play! She loves toys and does her best to play, but the surgery will help her live a full and happy life! Her surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, March 1st to fix her fractured tibia. Our vet says once healed she will be good as new and lead a normal life.

While we do not know how Phoebe was injured, Lucky Huskies was asked to take this precious puppy on by a partner organization and give her the surgery she needs to fix her leg so that she can walk normally again.

We are urgently reaching out to our village asking for donations so we can help little Phoebe. ANY amount, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated!

Meet Frankey, this sweet boy is almost 2 years old. He is constantly winning people over with his baby blue eyes and affectionate personality. Frankey was saved from an Arizona shelter. When our volunteer met him, she knew something was wrong with his gait. Radiographs show an old injury to his left rear leg, which has led to a build-up of scar tissue. Frankey will need good nutrition, and a family committed to physical therapy to rebuild muscle strength in his leg. A swimming pool would be ideal. Frankey is a typical fun-loving husky who gets along with other active dogs.

Frankey is also in need of a foster. Can you open your home to him? Please apply here: http://www.luckyhuskiesaz.org/foster/want-to-foster/

Carmella is a 2 1/2 year old light brown husky mix who is deaf. But don't let her deafness be a barrier. Experience with deafness isn't required but love and commitment is! She is kennel and potty trained. Carmella gets along with dogs her size but it is not recommended that she be in a home with small animals. She is food aggressive which is easily solved by feeding her in her kennel.

Here's what Carmella wants you to know about her:

Personality: Super sweet, smart and highly food motivated. My foster mom says that I make cute grumbling noises when I first get up in the morning.

Likes: Did someone say belly rubs??? I am all in! I also like to play with toys and I walk well on a leash but no harness, please. I would like a family that has another dog my size to play with.

Dislikes: I am easily startled due to my hearing impairment. But I know simple commands via hand gestures that my foster family has taught me, which is really helpful if I am startled!

Perfect home: A husky savvy patient family who can continue to provide me with positive training, regular exercise, good nutrition and of course lots of love and affection. Carmella is microchipped, up to date on vaccines and spayed. Her adoption fee is $400. The minimum adoption age is 25 and no apartments/condos.

Luck Huskies supporters! This is a plea for a senior girl!

We’ve been asked by the Pinal Shelter to take in the sweet soul. Tundra, is a friendly 11 year of senior who was dropped off by her family who could no longer care for her.

The shelter is extremely hard on senior dogs and we would like for her to find placement outside of this environment so getting her out is CRUCIAL. We need a volunteer to transport and a foster to save this girl!

Tundra does well with other calm, laid back dogs. Very friendly upon impound.

If you’ve ever experienced a senior dog’s live. T is truly unmatched. Can you find it in your heart to open your home for this sweet girl? Please consider fostering her by applying here: http://www.luckyhuskiesaz.org/foster/want-to-foster/

Can’t transport or foster? Please SHARE this post! We are always to grateful for all of your continued support!

It’s the season of giving and our Lucky Huskies have been extra good this year and landed themselves on the nice list.

We’d love to fill their stockings and leave gifts under the tree for them, but we need a little help from our rescue community, fans, and supporters. If you’re feeling a little generous, why not put your money towards a great cause?

What your money goes towards:
Vet visits, spay/neutering, surgeries, boarding, transport, medications, dog food, and treats.

Help us end the year with smiles on their faces!

Mr. Toby has finally settled into his furever home just in time for the holidays. With extensive, diligent training and support from our donors, Tony has come worlds from when we first brought him in. And here’s how he’s doing now…

Hello Husky friends from Toby ,
I been at my new home one month and loving it . I have a yard where I get to play with my toys. I get so overly excited that I sometimes jump in midair while running across the yard. A few times I figured out how to get into the fenced pool area. My dog dad doesn’t like me drinking the pool water.
About once a week somebody from a store in South America I think, keeps leaving at the front door packages with interesting new rubber play balls. Some of the balls light- up at night, squeak, bounce well.
Every day, I go on walks where I get to smell and p*e on my new favorite plant bushes and trees. I only do #2 in my yard, but my dog dad takes plastic bags just in case so people don’t get mad about .
During my walks my dog dad practices with me commands- heel, sit, down and stay commands. I have my sits and stay command done perfect. My “ down” commands I am working on. But today I did the “down“ command 4 times . Hence my picture you see taken today. Lately my dog dad nick named me “Mr. Muddy Paws” after I bury some of my dog treats in the yard . I want to thank Lucky Husky for being patient with me and finding me a good home. Please continue to look out for my Husky brothers and sisters.
Love Toby

Meet Frankey, this sweet boy is almost 2 years old. He is constantly winning people over with his baby blue eyes and affectionate personality. Frankey was saved from an Arizona shelter. When our volunteer met him, she knew something was wrong with his gait. Radiographs show an old injury to his left rear leg, which has led to a build-up of scar tissue. Frankey will need good nutrition, and a family committed to physical therapy to rebuild muscle strength in his leg. A swimming pool would be ideal. Frankey is a typical fun-loving husky who gets along with other active dogs.

Frankey is looking for a family that will provide positive training, good nutrition, daily exercise, and much-deserved love.

Frankey is up to date on vaccines, microchipped and neutered. His adoption fee is $400. Minimum adoption age is 25 and no apartments/condos.

Important announcement to our adopters, volunteers, donors and friends: It saddens us to have to defend ourselves from an attack by a disgruntled former volunteer. Tenure was ended at Lucky Huskies with unprofessional and unethical behavior which now includes a misrepresentation of our agreement with her regarding Kate the husky. For five years we have focused solely on saving dogs and remained free of public conflict, but the actions she has taken have forced us to defend our position. Simply stated, there has been a social media campaign stating that we have refused to pay the cost of medical expenses for a "forever foster" husky in her care. This husky Kate was never a forever foster, thus the former volunteer has always been responsible for all vet care. A "forever foster" is a designation for a dog that is unadoptable due to medical needs and one that the rescue agrees to care for for life. Kate the husky was never and is not such a designee. Thank you for your continued support for the huskies.
