❤️ Do you love raccoons? If so, you will love this story! ❤️
The New England Wildlife Center in South Weymouth recently released a Mom and her babies back into the wild after healing the mom and vaccinating all against rabies.
The Mom raccoon was admitted back in April after she fell through the roof of an industrial building in Norwood and injured her leg on a piece of machinery. The Wildlife Center tended to her injuries, but quickly learned that she was pregnant, with four babies on the way!
Their original plan was to release her as soon as her injuries healed and let her start her family in the wild, however nature intervened and she ended up giving birth in their outdoor cage. All four babies were healthy and she was a great mom! At that point, they decided the best course of action was to let the new family stay for a while to let the babies get stronger and allow mom to finish out her recovery.
Over the summer, the Mom recovered and the kits grew. Before long they were climbing all over the cage and eating them out of house and home. Mom stayed patient, but they could all see it was time for them to start the next chapter in the wild. The whole family was vaccinated for rabies and brought back to a wooded area near where Mom was found and they were successfully released as a family! 💕
