Maisey and Jiggs are our family pets first and foremost. They vacation with us, hike with us, sleep with our children ... We are a family of 6 living in a small Newfoundland outport. Our 4 children are homeschooled and we include as much of the outdoors and fun with the animals into our schooling as possible. Dad works in the mine and mom is home with the kids and the pups. Maisey and Jiggs have a
dded so much joy and laughter to our lives with their goofy, fun loving, 40 lb lap dog personalities. We can't imagine life without them. Our goal is to help other families have the same experience by having one of their pups join them as their new forever family member.

Babies are 3 days old today and that means we start our ENS Training. These pups are all-stars already ⭐️
We did the 5 usual exercises associated with ENS but this time we are also adding a new scent for them to try out each day. Today's scent was ROSE 🌹 Gonzo and Scooter seemed to really love it and drove their little noses right into the flower petals!
As they continue to grow we will continue to expose them to new sounds, smells, experiences in calm and controlled ways. All of this in an effort to nurture these puppies into being THE BEST dogs they can be; loving, confident, calm lifelong members of your family ❤️

📣 Update:
No pups yet. This part can last quite some time, especially for a first time mom. I made a call to the vet to be sure and they said if she isn’t pushing then she isn’t in active labor and not to worry. Her body is getting ready. They recommended a gentle walk, Elizabeth took her around the yard. She’s shredded her blankets though, nesting. She’s visibly restless and panting and shaky. But no pushing yet. Taking naps. Right now pups are moving down and lining up to come out. Still feel some pup movement so everyone is going well. We are keeping her calm and hydrated ❤️

Cricket’s labor has intensified. Heavy panting, really restless … she’s finally resting for a little bit but needs physical touch from Penelope. These pups are waiting until midnight …

Day 61 - No temp drop yet as of this morning (unless we missed it during the night). My gut tells me Thursday will be the day. Until then, mama is riding out this heat wave laying under the AC vent ❄️ 🌬️ 🐶

So I dreamt last night Cricket had 4 puppies … 2 of which were cats … let’s hope I am wrong 😆

The whelping pen is set up again and we are watching for labor signs this week 😊
Dogs can whelp anywhere from day 59-65 after mating. But for whatever reason, most will go into labor on day 63. Today (Sunday) we are on day 59.
One of the first things we look for is a temp drop. A dog’s normal body temperature is around 101º to 102º F. About 24 hours before labor beings, a change in progesterone levels cause a sudden drop to between 98º to 99º F. The temp drop only last for a few hours, so we will be checking her temp twice daily and keeping you posted!

🌟 We are planning a repeat litter this fall with pups expected Jan/Feb 2025. Let us know if you are interested. Their past litter matured to an average of 45 lbs. Perfect size 👌

More and more pregnancy signs showing up ☺️ Her belly is growing 🤰 !!! Her ni***es are enlarged. Her appetite is at an all time peak. Thursday marks the 7 week mark for Cricket … we should be able to start seeing and feeling pup movement in the next week or so 🥰 Today Cricket got a little clean up groom: trimmed her hygiene area to keep things cleaner when it comes time for whelping, shaved her belly short to make latching on easier for pups ✂️ We ordered pup collars today and in the next week or so the whelping pen will once again become a permanent feature in our living room 🐶 July 31 is going to come fast! 🗓️

🔔 PREGNACY SYMPTOM WATCH
A few more pregnancy symptoms noted over the last 2 days …. all helping to confirm our suspicions.
It’s been 42 days since Cricket and Jiggs first tied. Approx 21 days left until expected whelping of the pups. So lots should happen in these next few weeks. Looking for her stomach to start to grow exponentially and to feel puppy movement 🐶 ❤️

We are in Stage 1 labor 🚨 ! Starting around 10am we noticed Cricket getting little shivers and slight shaking. She is also off her food. Around 4:30pm she began to pant and get a little more restless. 5:10pm and she is starting to nest. We are hoping things continue to progress and we get pups tonight or in the wee morning hours 😁 We will keep you posted!

One more sleep!!!!! This is our last day and night with these babies 🐶 Tomorrow they are off to their new families. So we are enjoying some cuddles and watching them play with each other for the last time 😢 Tonight will be bath time, getting packed for our road trip tomorrow and getting their puppy bags ready to go to their new homes with them. Well, everyone but Rocky. He is still looking for a home. So he will be staying with us and getting some extra love until his family is found ♥️

Snow day here on the Baie Verte Peninsula … up to 100cm between Monday and Wednesday night expected 😅 ❄️ The pups aren’t too phased by it. They still want to be out playing 🐶 But they look like drown rats when they come in 😆 Everyone is progressing really well at doing their business outside before they come back in for nap time 😴 And once they are inside 90% of their business is being done in the litter … I think accidents only happen when “someone” (aka Bailey or Willow) decide to sleep in the litter box and hog it 😝
7 weeks tomorrow, everyone is getting so big 🥹
Rocky boy getting some one on one time ♥️ Problem is … now he doesn’t want to stay in the pen 😆 that backfired … but he’s such a sweet boy that just wants to be with people, lovin’ on them 🥰 And a smart little guy too 💡
